Man, I've been a huge fan of your Sonic remixes for years, and I just realized after watching this video for like the 5th time that you were the remixer.
Donna to the Rescue sounds INCREDIBLE. I love what you did with the section just before it loops; it sounds like some sort of demonic laughing. Very awesome.
Fantastic work. I'm curious, are there any free/sub 50 dollar FM softsynths (preferably available in AU format) you would recommend? I'm finding them surprisingly hard to track down.
Great background, I was still impressed with the work Sierra did at the time, such as the MT32 stuff...but it always felt a little 'inebriated'', haha...gecko, your arrangements are an inspiration , when are you releasing something official? Stay with it!
@wrightguyz Most (if not all) US-made PC games at the time used General MIDI as the middle man, greatly simplifying the music creation process with the tradeoff of not having direct control over OPL2/3 programming. Outside of the demoscene very few tapped directly into the true potential of the FM-based sound cards, the only developer I can name from the top of my head is Cryo who made Dune, Mega Race, KGB, etc.
And on May 29, 2011, SonicTheJackrabbit/Patch's remixes were completely forgotten about because substandard arrangements were posted by a more popular YouTuber
@sergiocornaga I'm just saying SonicTheJackrabbit made these awesome 32x arrangments of Doom but now he's going to be overshadowed because Geckoyamori made his own.
@Snip3rNife Gotta agree with you there. GeckoYamori is a godly arranger/remixer, but I like SonicTheJackrabbit's instrument choice more for Doom E1M1. I like this version as well, but there's some weird effect I can't quite put my finger on that's somewhat off putting.
As Gecko stated in the description, these aren't really true Genesis/32x arrangements, as the Genesis is only capable of 6 FM tones. (Or 7 if you bring in the 32x. :P)
However, I will say this, Gecko can do infinitely better FM synthesis than I can. :V
@Snip3rNife GeckoYamori is infinitely better than any unoriginal twat that creates a character from two different characters. I call this "ZeroSonicX-Syndrome".. Similar mental abnormalities include the all-too-familiar "DO NOT STEAL" taglines on horribly-edited pixel art, and furfaggotry.
@geno344 if they didn't rushed it, then believe me it could sound like that (or at least something close to that, i think Sega 32x allowed more music channels).
MOAR, I WANT MOAR!

@geckoyamori This might be a stupid question, but what software did you use to create this? I'm not well-versed in FM synth emulation/composition.

Wow! This is really what the 32x version of Doom should've sounded like, or at least a lot closer to.

FM music is awesome. I'm not too familiar with it, though. Is there some sort of emulator for those who do not possess an adequate sound card for it?
