For AVCHD, which this camera uses, forget it. A quad-core cpu and an HD-accelerated gpu and 4-6GB of memory is the ideal for fluid editing and playback.
I still have a cassette camera for the moment, ill be getting this one soon. Just a question, the quality on my current camera is exellent when I watch it from the camera but for some reason the quality gets very bad once I put it on my computer. Is this because of the fact its a cassette camera ?
my question is, what format does it record in? because i would need it to be able to edit on sony vegas on my computer and so it better be a compatible format
i bought this camara to record my band and every time i record a live show the camara turns off with a buffer error code. i think it doesn't like bass vibration or something. does anyone know why.
You'll probably run into problems with region codes/coding just like with DVD's and DVD players from different regions.. I dont know FOR SURE... but I just wanted to say something before you bought the camera. ASK someone at the store first. But then again, people who work at the store arent always useful or correct.
Thanks for your fast answer ! :) I fell in love with the Canon HF S10, apparently there's no major compatibility problems with European Stuff. People say NTSC/PAL doesn't change something. I'll see ^^
Cool, I just wasnt sure if Camcorders had region codes as well and I wanted you to be aware that they might have region codes but I dont know for sure... I'm looking at getting myself a Sanyo Xacti Waterproof High Definition Flash Camcorder(VPC-WH1). It has awesome picture and is waterproof up to 3 metres under water. So i dont have to worry about the camera if I film in the rain, snow or even underwater!
ahah i agree that a waterproof camcorder is very attractive :D I think It's more than a portable camcorder for filming action stuff or sport. Looks awesome too o_o
Region codes are designed to prevent illegal copying of the contents of f.e. DVD:s. There are no region codes in cameras. You can find the differences of NTSC- and PAL- systems in Wikipedia. The Bauer speaks about different resolutions. In fact the different quality-settings have more to do with compression or something. Only two resolutions available when shooting video: 1920x1080 and 1440x1080. These correspond with the five different quality-settings. BTW, am I retarded or is that an HG21?
Does anyone know how to get this camera to read video files? My Mom got this camera last year The computer is not recognizing the camera and there do not seem to be any downloadable drivers! The only thing that's driving is my BRAIN - driving it nuts!
yes, actually it does work with mac, i use mac and what u want to do is import through imovie, then go look for it through finder, just type in "clip" and all ur files of ur hd will come up. Hope this Helped
nah i have one it doesnt take that long well i have the newest one they are extremely good camcorders but it takes awhile to learn everything on it but much better than any other camera u can get and u can edit video on it too
it actually doesn't take too long at all. it comes with some software that is from an outside company that really helps with downloading. it's a great camera, highly recommended.
Hi I just but my Canon-HG20 and cant get to export the video files from camera hard drive. I have a Macbook pro with Final cut pro. I tray to install the sofware tha came with camera but only the DIGITAL VIDEO SOLUTION DISC was succefully intalled. The image mixer 3 does not give me and intall icon...
Q. can I tranfer the mivies files to computer or I need to capture?
If you want to use it for professional and broadcast use, the hv30 is better coz most hard drive based camcorders record on compressed signals such as mpeg2 loosing a considerable amount of quality
plus compressed signals have a lot of issues on editing and most professional editing programs dont even accept the format. However the hg20 will save you allot of time money and hassle buying cassettes and real-time capturing.
I have that camera, but I can´t use the ImageMixer software coz the instalation asks me for the serial number of my camera, i put it but it say that is incorrect, what can I do?
What are the advantages of shooting in 24p on the HG20? I know its supposed to give it a cinematic feel, but what does that do in terms of movement? I have a sample video i took in 24p with the HG20.
24p means that your video contain 24 images per second and thats how the real cinema movies are shooted! After they downgrade it at 23.97 for DVD or somethin like that
I googled it its a fakey price range though. I ordered one but you have to do it in a package and get all this crap like cleaning stuff. But, I got alot of freebies + an extended warrenty and still under 800 bucks im happy. Basically I got it for 600 but a 3 year extended warrenty with it. 700 bucks total and I got a free 8 hour battery and 5 gb sd card so yeah good deal.
i use prism video converter to convert my M2TS FILES to Mpeg 4 and Mpeg 2. Google prism video converter. You can use the trial then purchase the full. So far it works flawless.
One more comment to the clown with the 1600p statement. The next standard is going to be 2180p and currently, there is no HD Ready 2160p "Quad HDTV" format until 2015. (3840×2160) 1600p is upscaling garbage.
Thanks for the video. Advice though, ditch that background music you have playing when talking about the product. It is VERY distracting. We don't need you to be creative, just state the facts about the product. Thanks!
1600p? There isn't a format standard for 1600p. No source players for 1600p which then = Rescaling = lame! Get a clue tool! You're talking out of your arse!

Got a question, what kind of spec. PC do you need to be able to edit HD footage?
My PC has a single-core Athlon 64 processor @ 1.8 ghz, 2 GB RAM, Geforce 6600 card.
Not sure if it will be able to handle it...
Thanks!

That's enough for HDV probably.

If you use Quicktime to watch videos, it automatically downgrades to Low Resolution, since Apple thinks we have jurassic computers.

The Canon VIXIA HG-20 Records in AVCHD. Some versions of Sony Vegas will support it, but it has fairly steep system requirements.
