I wouldn't recommend feeding live chickens to snakes.

Birds can and will fight back, and you wouldn't want a chicken poking your snake's eye out, or ripping scales off. It's safer to feed pre-killed.

99% of snakes will transition from feeding live to feeding on pre-killed if you do it properly. There are plenty of guides on how to do it online.

@ericbhunt I've never eaten from KFC. :) I do eat chicken, but I don't eat factory birds. I have over 40 or so chickens and 12 ducks. I will on occasion eat any extra roosters that I don't want for breeding or that has a nasty attitude. What's nice is that most of the roosters that are hatched out are dual purpose crosses, and grow to be huge. Not that little stuff in the the factories. The meat is better quality in my opinion too and my birds aren't fed hormones.

It isn't from the 'Poor little animal!' sort of way, but I have seen snakes with their faces litearlly eaten to the bone and snakes bitten so badly they have ridiculous vet bills or need to be put to sleep. (if a snake is not hungry it won't touch the food), this is why I choose to keep my snake safe and feed frozen.
