Boxing is a part of mma, boxing is not dead or dying. no one goes around saying that jiu jitsu, wrestling or muay thai are dying and they are parts of mma. Why is everyone so desperate to make this comparison.
Comparing MMA to Boxing is like comparing, airsoft vs paintball, bruce lee vs jet li, jet li vs jackie chan, ps3 vs xbox, US military vs Russian Military, Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather Jr. its an infinite debate for all time win or loss, it'll never end!
but in terms of professionalism, you can't deny the fact that ALL boxers out there (I dare every boxers you can name of) were born for the sport of it. born with a family of boxers, father and uncle former pro boxers, cousins and brothers former pro boxers, has been boxing since their early teens and turned pro even before their legal age. while in mma, some of the fighters(if you want to call them fighters) came from another profession switching to mma just because of fame.
@ironjohn03 That's because the sport of boxing is predates television & you are comparing it to a sport less than two decades old. I grew up watching only boxing out of lack of options, I wish there was a full body combat sport when I was growing up. Simple truth, you can know longer call yourself the best fighter in the world if you can't defend simple leg kicks & takedowns. Even the people who came from other professions you mentioned had a wrestling or other martial arts backgrounds.
MMA is better? Yeah, if you're 16 years old and below.
They wanted the street fight you see outside every night to be official then boom, the MMA was born. Street fight styles broken down to martial arts
MMA is half professional half joke (former firefighter, cop, football player, construction worker, bird hunter, WWE wrestler - lol, turned MMA fighter) with records of 8 - 4, 20 - 12 , 4 - 2.
Boxers have records of 34 - 2, 54- 5, 42 - 3, 64 - 6. now that's what you call professional athletes.
@ironjohn03 That's because boxers are scared to fight the best in the sport & out of fear of tarnishing their records keep fighting bums they can easily beat to pad their records. It's also because full body combat is much harder to maintain an undefeated record with so many variables in each new style of opponent. Travis Fulton for example has a record of 247-49-10 (1), well over 300 professional fights. Lesnar (2000 NCAA champ) had a college wrestling record of 106-5 in division 1.
He is only comparing the financial aspect of the two sports. Do a comparison of the athletic aspect. UFC is competing with boxings fan base. Compare something like how many fans boxing had in its developing years to the rate at which UFC exploded on to the fight scene. And boxing didnt have to compete with any additional fight sprot.
That wasn't a very good comparison because the only thing he mentioned was what sport made more money. That really has nothing to do wth it. They are talking about fighting, not money. This guy is a fucking douche.
the guy in black is right mma is young, in the younger years of boxing boxers dont get millions of dollars, and mma now winning the fans of new generation, kids will love mma than boxing, there is no way you can call yourself the best fighter if you dont know how to defend simple leg kicks
Boxing and mma are not apples and oranges...boxing itself is a part of mma much like the skin or stem of the apple. An imbalanced one at that... Stupid commentators :/
@hotcocao55 its like comparing 100meter sprint to football you have to run fast (the footballers and the can kick your ass) but the sprinters are faster so what is better??? right it depends on the question wich is asked...
y isnt any mma fighter changing to boxing??? because they cant box this is so stupid...
@hotcocao55 Just like Football involves explosive sprints. Since 100-400M+ Runs are involved in Football that makes Football better than 100-400+ Races because those sprints are just 1 aspect of Football? Same thing with Hockey to Skating and many more that i cant think of on the spot.
I love both but its stupid to say one is better than the other. Boxing is just one part of MMA but on that one part they go on such a high skill level that its becomes something of its own.
500K PPV buys is not a big deal anymore guys... Maybe for that once-in-a-decade boxing superfight its a big story but UFC 100 alone did twice that and has one or two PPV fights a month. Not to mention the UFC has a tv show and free fights on Versus or Spike while boxing has their worthless free fights on MSG or whatever.
If you want to make money as a fighter you need to go to the UFC. Its simple as that and all boxing has now is the fantasy of Mayweather V Pacquiao
Ya know whats funny? James Toney cried like a bitch after that fight. Now he gets to get his ass whipped by another Pro FIGHTER...with his own custom rules. Takedown defense James work on it
@Kino483 Yeah white girls like you cant hang in boxing so they join the skill less MMA, any striker in MMA like chuck lide can knock out at will and land at will in boxing chuck would be a bum all boxers would counter his wide punches and super man crap all day long.
@jezza1789 If MMA is less skilled what does that say about the boxers that can't even last a single round or in Toney's case land a single punch? UFC isn't called the ultimate boxing championships, fighters need to be well rounded so they can defend themselves know matter where a fight ends up going. A well rounded fighter wouldn't throw a superman punch at a boxer, they would take him down & submit because a boxer is essentially a white belt in submission grappling.
@MessiIsAChoker shut the fuck up you dumb nigger. look at how many white champions there are dumbass. way the hell more like chuck liddel, brock lesnar, randy couture, andrei arloski, frankie edgar, tim silvia, tito ortiz, and the great GSP, and guess wut there is an undefeated white fighter in boxing named joe galzaghe, so shut the fuck up dumbass. you dont know shit you dumb nigger
@Kino483 Wow you are one stupid mayonaisse skinned piece of shit. Rampage Jackson kicked Liddel's white ass twice. Also Rampage Jackson and Rashad Evans are both black former champions. The pound for pound best fighter in the world is Anderson Silva - A black guy. You can say all you want BUT THE FACT IS that two of the current belt holders in UFC ARE BLACK. Anderson Silva and Jon Jones have beaten the shit out of countless white guys.
@Kino483 One other thing, you dumb shit - Black people are only 10% of the population in USA and the best black athletes in America go into NFL and NBA because there is more money there. That is why there are more white champions in MMA. You are beyond stupid because you can't grasp basic maths. Let me repeat so that it sinks into your dumb head - Blacks are only 10% of the population in USA and the best black athletes go into NBA and NFL.
@Kino483 If the best black athletes in America went into MMA and boxing instead of NBA and NFL, then there would be NO white champs in MMA and Klitchko's wouldn't be champs in boxing.
@CharismaticEdge Mayweather is such a tool i hate that nig so much. He is the most bias ignorant idiot ever and he claims to be the best and still is scared too fight manny what a joke.
@analizaash When? I haven't heard about this..... I want too see a promo or some sort of proof. Because that niggers words are cheap all he does is talk.
Fiancial comparisons have nothing to do with the discipline of either sport--this guys a joke-- Boxing is the art of punching, MMA is the art of fighting--two different sports
poor babies must be sad their iddy bitty sport crashed and burned in Japan
What sport replaced it again?
Boxing you say!? Oh but I thought that was just two guys hitting each other in the face and the Japanese hated it; awww so sad MMA became boxing's little Japanese bitch
@bdamaster60 i agree to a point... Mayweather is the most overrated boxer out there he has handpicked almost every fight... he has never fought a skillful fighter at their peak. He fought De la hoya when he was done and he still gave him a lot of trouble. For Mayweather it seems that the amount of money he makes and his popularity among black people has put his name among the elite of boxing which i dont even think he should be.
@LemuresShinma Guess you get the pleasure of watching guys wrapping there legs around each other and dry humping. I'll admit theres alot of boring fights in boxing but same as ufc, I cant stand when guys are on top of each other and they hold that postion for a while because they are tired. It's boring!!!!!! I would much rather see them go toe to toe even with kicks.
hey bitches if boxers close the gap in a fight with a mma fighter (which is nearly impossible) then i wiil just ko you with a head kick there problem solved
Financially both UFC and a boxing event might bring in the same amount of revenue. Lets just say $20 mil. The difference is that in boxing the talent (ie the fighters) take a large chunk of that income. In UFC however, most of the money goes to the promoter (ie UFC). This guy's comparison is fuckin retarded. Just b/c boxers make more in purses than UFC fighters dsnt make boxing a bigger sport, it just means that as of right now boxers make more money in purses than UFC fighters. Thats it.
why's that guy talk so wierd and mispronounce everything? I don't trust a dude who calls mma a ufc, he's right about not comparing them but for all the wrong reasons lol
@StapleGunMS Mike Tyson, Roy Jones Jr & Zab Judah (all black pro current & former champion boxers) all enjoy watching MMA, some more than boxing... Boxing is a good skill but boxers can't even beat K-1 fighters lead alone MMA fighters. Boxers are able to do everything they know in boxing in MMA however that skill alone has proven very ineffective in the octagon against any top current competition. IMO a sport for men is one where they train their entire body & mind to be effective weapons.
@Immortalsyn83 Bullshit Ray Mercer knocked out in 4 seconds The mainiac used to be ufc champion. MMA star. If a boxer closes the gap bye bye any mma fighter. MMA is a sport just like boxing. But boxing my friend more lethal to know in street fights especially against multiple attackers. Whats mma guy gonna do ? Striking is poor of the bat(coompared to boxer) so he is gonna do a trianlge choke on the ground ? very gay or maybe a takedown and get bitten or poked in the eyes.
@levedia He also got kicked one time in the face by K-1 fighter Remy Bonjasky in 22 seconds & verbally tapped. Also choked out in about 1:10 seconds against a street fighter with zero boxing or MMA experience. BTW there is an interview with Jens Pulver talking about Tim training to box against Mercer. He wanted to embarrass the boxer but ended up the jackass as everyone that follows MMA already knew. He was UFC champion by default after Frank Mir was in a motorcycle accident per pride merger.
@StapleGunMS Tell that to rampage jackson, anderson silva, jon jones, rashad evans, cain valasquez, andre arlovski, antonio nogueira, vitor belfort, layota machida, jose aldo, wanderlei silva and the list goes on, all in the ufc all champions none white. Say it to the numerous champions from Pride FC, organization from japan. idiot.
@StapleGunMS also by saying racist dumb shit like MMA is for stupid white trash who can't box, that transitions right into equaling that boxing is for dumb "niggers and spics" who couldn't fight in MMA. Neither are true, both are retarded, i can't believe no one is angry over people saying such stupid racist shit. I guess mixed martial artists just have too much class to say that boxing is for niggers and spics, even though you're saying the equivalent about white trash being in MMA.
The boxing industry is there for just a few fighters. The UFC, however, has it's money distributed between all the fighters, hence why the get paid so little. You can box your whole life, and never get upwards of 10,000 dollars. You can fight your whole life, and get paid 30,000 grand a year, but no chance of making more unless you are truely gifted. In the end, the UFC is safer to join, financially, and skill wise it is MUCH higher than boxing. UFC wins overall.
@immortalsyn83 lol I was talking about ppl that watch it not the fighters and i didn't say only read it again. I sad that most of them are white not all.
@thedelldell1 Those are just nationalities of current champions of the sport, if those are the champions it only makes sense that many of those countries are starting to or already practice the sport as well. If you where in Anaheim California to watch the Lesnar vs Velasquez fight, the majority of the audience was Mexican American. Race has absolutely nothing to do with being a fan of a combative sport, that's just something white boxing promoters say to keep you from watching it.
@thedelldell1 How could you say MMA is only big with white people when there are so many different nationalities of current MMA champions all over the world in the sport: American; Dutch; Japanese; Georgian; English; Australian; Brazilian; Congolese; Canadian; South African; Cameroonian; Cuban; Russian; Afghani; Polish; Lithuanian; Welsh; British; and just this month there is also a new current middleweight Jamaican champion of UCMMA an MMA promotion that started a few years ago in England.
this guy is a retard the other guy is right. boxing has been around as a pro sport for a long time so obviously they have more money, but lets see what happens in 30 years. MMA will be getting more and more fans each year and more and more fighters. plus boxing only put a couple good ppv shows out each year so of course everyone is gonna buy it cuz they hardly see any boxing in the year. UFC puts ppvs out every month. u cant expect 500000 buys
@thewelshviper thats and ufc has 7. each time u add a weight class you will make way more money because you will have more title fights more athletes and those athletes will become famous and the sport will get more fans in general. you cant compare the money the athletes make thats just silly because ufc has 7 to boxings 17 and boxing has been around way longer but mma is getting more popular and boxing is going down thats a fact personally i think boxing is dying out
@easyempire exactly. thats why you see mayweather keep talking and running his mouth with all that shit. and you look at st pierre, silva all bow and give their opponents respect after its all done.
@NME712 Actually its sponsors & decades of putting on events that put money in the sport not "skill." Baseball players didn't make millions day one off their skill nor did any sport. Money has to flow in a sport in order to be circulated among hundreds-thousands of athletes.
the biggest selling annual PPV is always boxing. plus if you count global PPV buys boxing smashes MMA. Everywhere else outside of north america boxing is a way more popular than MMA. look at Wladimir Klitschko. Last 3 fights, 155000 tickets sold and average viewing figures of 40 m . The kameda brothers in Japan, Canelo Alvarez and Chavez Jr in Mexico, the Klitschos in Germany, Haye and Khan in UK, Kessler in Denmark, Donaire and Pacquaio in Philipines... HUGE fanbases
@martygi It's not more popular in Asia. I guarantee more people in Japan have bought tickets to see Sumo wrestling & MMA events than boxing. Due to the boom of MMA in 2008, UCMMA (Ultimate Challenge MMA,) is a mixed martial arts promotion in England has already hosted 21 events since it's creation. I realize boxing on a globe scale is still larger but MMA is catching up at a rapid pace considering the time frame difference. UFC just added a 135, & 145 division & are adding a 125 later this year.
your absolutely clueless about japanese MMA if you think its bigger than boxing there. just google "death of japanese MMA" and japanese boxing tv ratings and you ll see how ignorant your comment is. MMA in UK is non existent only when the UFC rolls into down once in a blue moon. by the UFC adding more weight devisions it will over time slowly become watered down like boxing. MMA has hit its peak. even this year their PPV numbers are way down on last year.
@martygi If you knew anything about MMA you would know many fighters got injured this year but there have still been many excellent fights this year. I have already read those articles, much like boxing is starting to suffer here MMA is having similar problems in Japan. Part is due to lack of big draw fighters another was that earthquake they suffered this year didn't help. MMA is far from hitting it's peak, just like boxing is far from being dead. UFC is still not even legal in every state yet.
i aint disputing that MMA is nt putting on good fights. i,m disputing the fact that you think MMA is bigger in Japan compared to boxing. boxing does twice the numbers that K1 are doing in Japan. 10 years that was not even imaginable. half the country - 160 m watched the rematch of Kameda vs Landaeta. 42 % of the country watched naito vs kameda. its not just the kameda brothers , nishioka , aoh and especially hasegwa are all big stars there. earthquake has nothing to do with it.
@martygi If you look at the last 100 years in Japan boxing hasn't had nearly the success of martial arts competitions including K-1. The earthquake effected more business's than you realize. When a promotion plans events they are forced to cancel, they lose millions in advertising. As you said boxing wasn't even imaginable 10 years ago in Japan. It has taken off their recently because they lost all the Marque fighters in the pride sale. Dream is working to acquire more talent & still kicking.
Dream is in a pretty bad way though. With Elite going bust and lack of funding etc, that company is not in a healthy place. Their advertising revenues have got to be way down with their collaspe in TV viewership figures. there was talk late last year that the company was about to fold. the also only put on four events last year which was down on previous years and only one event this yr to date (granted earthquake aint helped). the Sengoku promotion is also in dire straights.
@martygi Dream has always put on a minimum of 5 events annually & never more than 7 a year. There was talks about folding dream but then they got new investors to keep the company afloat & seek out new talent. Dream had plan to put on more this year but had to scrap them due to the quake. Sengoku had spent too much on fighters and advertising & the day after the earthquake Don Quijote (Sengoku's primary sponsor) announced they where ceasing all funding to WVR effectively closing the promotion.
the earthquake has nothing to with it. When pride was sold and dream died a death, MMA basically collapsed in Japan. Last year the biggest MMA event in Japan sold 16000 seats. Ten years ago during the glory days of Pride, there were selling football stadiums. There is alot of conspiracy that the Yakusa have alot to do with the fall in MMA in Japan. Boxing is still very strong in the US. This year HBO have done their best numbers since 07. A reduction in the number of PPVs is alot to do with that
@martygi Dream just sold 26,729 tickets at Saitama Super Arena the beginning of this year. The same time last year they did 45,606 in 2009. The first event they hold normally every year on Dec 31st is always the biggest. A reduction in PPV was necessary for boxing because they didn't have any fighters that where PPV draws except a few. Due to that earthquake dream was forced to cancel one or two events & Sengoku a very popular MMA brand was forced to shut down the day after the earthquake.
for the rest of asia are you telling me MMA is bigger in India and China. you would be wrong my friend. look at both those countrys respective boxing programmes that competed in the olympics and commonwealth games. look at the TV figures boxing is getting in those countries. In phillipines, i grant you that Muay thai is the biggest sport but i can guarantee you that Manny Pacquaio are Nonito Donaire are the biggest sport stars in the Phillipines.
@martygi Art of war is China's Premier MMA promotion & a fucking amazing one at that. They have put on some amazing fights. They just sold part of their company to Flash Entertainment in Abu Dhabi & have plans to expand to the middle east. India just also created an MMA league in 2009 so dispite what you think MMA is becoming more popular world wide & is far from peaking. MMA will eventually be in the Olympics, it was in the original Greek games for over 1000 years. Agree Pacman is loved there.
The problem is the reported buys for boxing are just the HBO-Showtime numbers which are US based only, while the reported buys for UFC are global; it's an unfair comparison one country vs many
@ArmourRhino1928 UK & Japan have the same thing for MMA... Boxing is being shat on by one MMA company. Boxing still has the biggest draws but fall short every year in PPV buys because they only have 2-3 decent PPV's a year when MMA is pumping out 15 minimum from a single company plus free fights on spike; Versus; and HDNET hosts everything else but strikeforce which is showtime (also zuffa owned.)
@Immortalsyn83 same thing for MMA? What do you mean? Japan MMA completely collapsed and UK MMA has been taken off all major Brittish networks. You also missed my point, and that's that since the UFC market there PPVs globally and boxing is US only you're comparing boxing's buyrate which are from 1 country to UFC's buyrate which is global. HBO and Showtime are not available to buy outside the US. The UFC is available to buy in several countries.
@ArmourRhino1928 Boxing is having marketing issues... perhaps it's because nobody else is interested in buying shitty fights. To be fair Japan just got financially owned, Dream FC did plan to put on more shows this year but the earthquake did force them to a very late start this year. The day after that quake on March 12 it was reported that Don Quijote, a Japanese discount store chain serving as the primary sponsor of Sengoku, had ceased all funding to WVR effectively closing their promotion.
@Immortalsyn83 It's funny you say its not on general TV in the UK because the majority of people who watch online streams of events are being streamed from the UK! British commercials and all! Nice try!
MMA has a much smarter business model, White & the Fertitta brothers didn't want their sport to turn out like boxing where you have these rich diva's that won't fight each other without trying to adding their own financial or bullshit stipulations to matches. There are too many money grubbing promoters & fighters in boxing that hand pick fights. Boxing rarely allows the best fighters to fight due to the overwhelming number of organizations, champions & belts currently circulating in boxing.
@Immortalsyn83 Mercer was an old guy past his prime when he did this to Sylvia. This guy is older than Couture. All i'm saying is that a boxer has the skills to fight an mma fighter. A kick boxer does too but a kick boxer punches not as good as a boxer. If Cro cop did good imagine a prime Tyson what he would do.
Kimbo vs Mercer was fixed big time. Mercer did not tru to close the gap at all he stayed and did mma with Kimbo. Give Kimbo a chance to make it. So fixed not even funny.
@levedia The best fighter will always beat the best boxer in MMA. If you spend your life perfecting a single stand up style then you will always be at a disadvantage in a full body combat sport. Nobody has better boxing skills than a boxer or they are in the wrong profession. Mercer vs Kimbo was not a fixed fight, Mercer was looking to counter punch Kimbo because he was expecting him to come out swinging not take him down which is what all MMA fighters would do to a boxer if they want to win.
@levedia prime tyson would end up worse than cro cop. cro cop could kick knee he came from k1 tyson is just a puncher. ur mad cuZ boxing lost and sucks
the biggest issue when it comes to the financial argument between boxing/mma is because they are both run differently. with boxing, fighters are completely independant, they control who they fight, agree to the venue, the cut between themselves etc, and are controlled by commisions that are way 2 laid back. with mma, its runned as a legit business, getting fighters 2 sign contracts 2 fight for them, and in these contracts they choose who they fight. Because of this the owners decide the amount
the guy 2 the left had a good point towards the end of the video, boxing has been around since 1890, the first ufc/mma event in america was in 1993, this means there is ova a 100 year time difference. If mma was around the same time, I bet money in mma could be even better than that of a floyd mayweather or a 'pac-man'.
wow all of you guys putting your little brains in on this need to go watch Rocky Marciano or Joe Louis that is if you MMA guys can read let alone write or spell look like the man said it's apples and oranges why do you idiotic nit wits keep trying to compare to Boxing did you ever get in a fight if not then shut your weak ass girlie mouths
@easyempire You have to understand the way sports work! There really isint a comparison between top boxers and top MMA guyz! Think about how bad todays MMA fighters are going to be in 25 years! Guys like Jon Jones and GSP are going to be the rule... not the exception! To say MMA athletes are more skilled than boxers is to misunderstand both sports drastically brother! There is a reason why Top10 boxers command that kinda cash! when MMA does... it'll attract those high caliber guys 2!
The primary reason boxers make more cash is because the sport has been established longer & all those PPV's, gate sales & sponsors they had for 25-50+ years put money into the sport. Future athletes of MMA will make a great living thanks to the pioneers of the sport. Boxer's skills are undeniable, as are MMA fighters. They are both masters of their crafts & shouldn't be expected to easily cross over to the other sport as both are drastically different.
@Immortalsyn83 Boxing is not a centralized company sport... its more like a Feudal system. But in theory i still agree with you... Although i would hesitate to call any MMA guy today a "master" of his craft... IF his craft is MMA... There are plenty of Master BJJ guys, Wrestlers, Muay Thai's, Judokas, Boxers... But there are no master MMA fighters yet!
The reason for this is simple... if your the top amature boxer in the world... Why go MMA? why not go into boxing for real money!
@Gooseman2k2 It's much harder to work your way up in MMA these days to a title (not comparing MMA to boxing), stylistically there are many bad match ups you have to get threw these days just to get a shot. If you're a champ that has defended your belt at least once in MMA I would consider that a current master of his craft much like a champ boxer. Being a master of MMA you have to put all those aspects together and show know weakness's or holes which requires a wealth of knowledge & skill sets.
Ok let me start off with this UFC is a name of a company just like Pride, Bellator FC, K.O.T.C., Strikeforce, Etc...They all broadcast MMA...so are the other companies listed an all the other 1s out there not sports too??? Y is UFC not a sport than?? MMA is all fighting techniques from all over the world used to compete against an opponent EX: Karate, Jeet Kune Do, Tae kwon do, Muay Thai, Wrestling, Jiu-jit su(all forms), Kickboxing,Etc. oh yeah did i mention BOXING...
Boxing isnt more exciting than UFC...most boxing matches are one sided fights & just sell out for the money..the financial comparison is stupid that guy is an idiot..Face it Boxing is slowly dying out and UFC is growing rapidly...None of the top boxers want 2 fight the top UFC fighters..James Toney lost to Randy Couture he talked shit and lost..Ray Mercer lost 2 Kimbo and Kimbo sucks but i will give Mercer for ko over Sylvia..Boxing-1 MMA-2
James Toney is the one who heckled Dana White until he would give him a fight and talked trash about being able to beat top level MMA fighters. So they set up a fight with Randy Couture to make an example of him. The UFC is not trying to degrade Boxing but when Boxers disrespect their sport they put them in their place. They even challenged Floyd Mayweather to face Sean Sherk when he talked smack about MMA.
See what happened when Mercer landed a shot on Sylvia after 9 seconds? These are the facts: if a boxer lands a big shot first the fight is over. If the MMA fighter gets into an early position to take him down, fight is over. It all depends on who gains that 1st advantage. MMA are more complete fighters, but boxers are more specialist in one form of attack. Boxing is a more exciting sport, but it's also a dirtier sport & fighters avoid eachother: pacman/mayweather. Both can exist independently
This was from 07,I would like these two to look back on their comments now.Today in boxing there are only a very small handfull of contenders and or champs making big money. The UFC....You get a contract, and you make at least 6 figures, you get insurance, and tons of bonuses/perks.I've always loved the sport of boxing, and had many former champs as idols.I hated UFC when it first came out,but since Dana took over, the sport is amazing, and continues to evolve.
@krunkmasterj True but I consider Tim Sylvia washed up as well. When he fought Mercer it was in Adrenaline MMA. A promotion nobody has even heard of. Then you have out of his prime James Toney fighting a 47yr old out of his prime Couture. They're not fighting the top mma fighters either.
@TheChoada ur right, a legend in his own sport and a fat out of shape athlete coming to a different sport. Just shutup, ufc fighters no better then to switch to boxing against a top fighter and at least a James Toney had the balls to fight Randy Coture in his own sport. James said ok now you fight me in my own sport and Randy didn't accept.
@Gr33nsPoint56 randy admitted prefight he is not a boxer and james toney kept chasing dana white for a fight cuz ur pussy hw champs didnt want to fight james. there r over 5 mma fighters who did and crossed to boxing
@ageeeeeeeeee james toney is a nobody in boxing now, he was the IBF heavyweight champion which that belt really means nothing. It's not like he attracts David Haye or the Klitschko brothers, plus the heavyweight division is no longer the most entertaining division. Its funny how when Riddick Bow beat that white mma fighter you didnt see alot of boxing fans talkin shit unlike you ufc fans, and if they were I didnt see it as much as this.
@Gr33nsPoint56 lol if wlad thinks he is a nobody then why doesnt he fight james for alot of money then he is scared pussy. and riddick bow has not made his mma debut yet. silly boxing fans like to bring race into the arguement. bob arum blasts the ufc lou dibella blasted it during an interview wen they werent event talking bout mma.
@ageeeeeeeeee all i said was white, not sayin it in any racial way what so ever dumbass. Riddick Bow has been doin MMA just not in the UFC so get your shit straight. Go look it up, they tried to make it a big deal saying boxing vs mma and Riddick won by knock out in the first round. From what i remember you blasted boxing so im just defending it you piece of shit.
@Gr33nsPoint56 LOL LIES!!! Riddick Bow back out of the fight he was supposed to have in 07 moron. He threw in the towel on his MMA career without a single fight, because he realized he couldn't cut it in MMA. When will you retarded boxing fans realize boxer's aren't even the best stand up fighters lead alone top fighters in the world. At boxing yes they are the best however add feet and they are completely out of their element., add knees; elbows; take downs & they are like a fish out of water.
@Gr33nsPoint56 What about Ray Mercer??? He went to K-1 lost two times in a row... took one kick from Remy Bonjasky and verbally quit, never to returned to K-1 again. Then he decided to try MMA & made his debut against a youtube street fighter with zero MMA or boxing pro fights & was choked out in a minute. Then he revived the ultimate pity, he had an MMA fighter try to make a further mockery of him by trying to box him in MMA. His own words & repeated by Tim's training camp such as Jens Pulver.
Why watch guys who are kinda good at a few things? I'd rather watch boxers who are scientists of their sport. And besides, UFC is bullshit for not paying those guys well. MMA fighters need a union or a better company.
@ChicagoProdigy Every sport started with pioneers in the sport for pride & spirit of competition. Pride FC fighters didn't start fighting for money or fame, they simply wanted to be the best. GSP made over a million last year in fight bonus's alone, we don't know his contract with the UFC nor how much exact sponsorship money he makes per year but he is clearly making good money. 15 years ago making 100K+ a year was crazy in this sport, UFC paid 85 fighters at least that in bonus's alone in 2010.
@HawK2KOne Read his comment again bro, he clearly says, MIX MARTIAL ARTS is a "sport" How ever UFC is not.! UFC is a brand, and is just a branch of MMA. Sorry for being nosy.
completely ridiculous... the sport is mma, the ufc is the biggest organisation in mma. Its like calling football the FA or fifa. Pride is still the biggest org in the history of the sport in many areas of measurement.
@karoolta NFL=Football... Football=NFL both used as a general word for the sport... im right, just because your pointing out real specific points doesnt mean thats how people process things... companies want there brand name to also be the definition for the sport or product
i like boxing coz its strategic knocking down a guy with only a punch? man thats not easy, and plus the science of boxing is amazing! mma and ufc their alright, but i dont like to see dudes kissing each others ass, hugging in the ground, even though they call it grappling, but 4 me i call it hugging, i rather wanna see someone being punch and sleep in the canvas thats it.....
@macmaccanonoy19 It does all come down to preference, both can be exciting & dull. The argument of who has the better fighters is obvious, boxers are not well rounded fighters. Both have their share of flaws and are extremely tough and competitive at the highest levels. I enjoy MMA more than boxing because I find it more fascinating watching different styles of fighters competing with less restrictions. MMA has a higher KO percentage than boxing, and fighting requires more strategy than boxing.
@Immortalsyn83 aight dawg, thats what u like and u prefer it that way, so fine suit ur self, if thats what ur comfortable, but 4 me i dont like 2c guys hugging, i mean grappling 1 another, and kissing asses, thats why i dont watch mma, thats why i love 2 watch boxing, the sweet science of boxing, by just the use of a punch and try 2 ko the opponent and let him kiss the canvas w/ out even hugging (i mean grappling) just by the use of a punch and i find it science, hehehe
@macmaccanonoy19 I grew up watching boxing, i appreciate the skill of a boxer however you take the top money making boxer IE Floyd Mayweather & put him in a cage that shit won't last a minute. If you put an MMA fighter in a boxing ring with some boxing experience and a solid chin he could survive 12 rounds of Mayweather because Mayweather isn't know for his KO power. It's not a matter of comfort in preference, it's purely wanting to see the top athletes in the world competing in combat.
@macmaccanonoy19 It means more to many people who the top fighters in the world are, which is why MMA is rivaling boxing in popularity. American's after a century have finally woken up and realized boxers are not the best fighters in the world. The art of boxing is easily countered with proper training, boxers are not well rounded fighters... they are simply just boxers. Boxing is an important skill but its only one of many skills a pro fighter must learn to be successful in a an actual fight.
Boxing is a part of mma, boxing is not dead or dying. no one goes around saying that jiu jitsu, wrestling or muay thai are dying and they are parts of mma. Why is everyone so desperate to make this comparison.

kuyapjdotcom 2 months ago
@Immortalsyn83
but in terms of professionalism, you can't deny the fact that ALL boxers out there (I dare every boxers you can name of) were born for the sport of it. born with a family of boxers, father and uncle former pro boxers, cousins and brothers former pro boxers, has been boxing since their early teens and turned pro even before their legal age. while in mma, some of the fighters(if you want to call them fighters) came from another profession switching to mma just because of fame.
ironjohn03 2 months ago
@ironjohn03 That's because the sport of boxing is predates television & you are comparing it to a sport less than two decades old. I grew up watching only boxing out of lack of options, I wish there was a full body combat sport when I was growing up. Simple truth, you can know longer call yourself the best fighter in the world if you can't defend simple leg kicks & takedowns. Even the people who came from other professions you mentioned had a wrestling or other martial arts backgrounds.
Immortalsyn83 2 months ago
MMA is better? Yeah, if you're 16 years old and below.
They wanted the street fight you see outside every night to be official then boom, the MMA was born. Street fight styles broken down to martial arts
MMA is half professional half joke (former firefighter, cop, football player, construction worker, bird hunter, WWE wrestler - lol, turned MMA fighter) with records of 8 - 4, 20 - 12 , 4 - 2.
Boxers have records of 34 - 2, 54- 5, 42 - 3, 64 - 6. now that's what you call professional athletes.
ironjohn03 2 months ago
@ironjohn03 That's because boxers are scared to fight the best in the sport & out of fear of tarnishing their records keep fighting bums they can easily beat to pad their records. It's also because full body combat is much harder to maintain an undefeated record with so many variables in each new style of opponent. Travis Fulton for example has a record of 247-49-10 (1), well over 300 professional fights. Lesnar (2000 NCAA champ) had a college wrestling record of 106-5 in division 1.
Immortalsyn83 2 months ago
He is only comparing the financial aspect of the two sports. Do a comparison of the athletic aspect. UFC is competing with boxings fan base. Compare something like how many fans boxing had in its developing years to the rate at which UFC exploded on to the fight scene. And boxing didnt have to compete with any additional fight sprot.

@hotcocao55 its like comparing 100meter sprint to football you have to run fast (the footballers and the can kick your ass) but the sprinters are faster so what is better??? right it depends on the question wich is asked...
y isnt any mma fighter changing to boxing??? because they cant box this is so stupid...
xTheSexNinjax 4 months ago
@hotcocao55 Just like Football involves explosive sprints. Since 100-400M+ Runs are involved in Football that makes Football better than 100-400+ Races because those sprints are just 1 aspect of Football? Same thing with Hockey to Skating and many more that i cant think of on the spot.
I love both but its stupid to say one is better than the other. Boxing is just one part of MMA but on that one part they go on such a high skill level that its becomes something of its own.

jezza1789 5 months ago
@jezza1789 If MMA is less skilled what does that say about the boxers that can't even last a single round or in Toney's case land a single punch? UFC isn't called the ultimate boxing championships, fighters need to be well rounded so they can defend themselves know matter where a fight ends up going. A well rounded fighter wouldn't throw a superman punch at a boxer, they would take him down & submit because a boxer is essentially a white belt in submission grappling.

Thats it.

Immortalsyn83 6 months ago
@Immortalsyn83 Bullshit Ray Mercer knocked out in 4 seconds The mainiac used to be ufc champion. MMA star. If a boxer closes the gap bye bye any mma fighter. MMA is a sport just like boxing. But boxing my friend more lethal to know in street fights especially against multiple attackers. Whats mma guy gonna do ? Striking is poor of the bat(coompared to boxer) so he is gonna do a trianlge choke on the ground ? very gay or maybe a takedown and get bitten or poked in the eyes.
levedia 6 months ago
@levedia He also got kicked one time in the face by K-1 fighter Remy Bonjasky in 22 seconds & verbally tapped. Also choked out in about 1:10 seconds against a street fighter with zero boxing or MMA experience. BTW there is an interview with Jens Pulver talking about Tim training to box against Mercer. He wanted to embarrass the boxer but ended up the jackass as everyone that follows MMA already knew. He was UFC champion by default after Frank Mir was in a motorcycle accident per pride merger.

@martygi How so? It can't even beat annual PPV buys anymore... how is boxing ruling over MMA?
Immortalsyn83 7 months ago
@Immortalsyn83
the biggest selling annual PPV is always boxing. plus if you count global PPV buys boxing smashes MMA. HUGE fanbases
martygi 7 months ago
@martygi It's not more popular in Asia. I guarantee more people in Japan have bought tickets to see Sumo wrestling & MMA events than boxing. Due to the boom of MMA in 2008, UCMMA (Ultimate Challenge MMA,) is a mixed martial arts promotion in England has already hosted 21 events since it's creation. I realize boxing on a globe scale is still larger but MMA is catching up at a rapid pace considering the time frame difference. UFC just added a 135, & 145 division & are adding a 125 later this year.
Immortalsyn83 7 months ago
@Immortalsyn83
your absolutely clueless about japanese MMA if you think its bigger than boxing there. just google "death of japanese MMA" and japanese boxing tv ratings and you ll see how ignorant your comment is. MMA in UK is non existent only when the UFC rolls into down once in a blue moon. by the UFC adding more weight devisions it will over time slowly become watered down like boxing. MMA has hit its peak. even this year their PPV numbers are way down on last year.
martygi 7 months ago
@martygi If you knew anything about MMA you would know many fighters got injured this year but there have still been many excellent fights this year. I have already read those articles, much like boxing is starting to suffer here MMA is having similar problems in Japan. Part is due to lack of big draw fighters another was that earthquake they suffered this year didn't help. MMA is far from hitting it's peak, just like boxing is far from being dead. UFC is still not even legal in every state yet.
Immortalsyn83 7 months ago
@Immortalsyn83
i aint disputing that MMA is nt putting on good fights. i,m disputing the fact that you think MMA is bigger in Japan compared to boxing. boxing does twice the numbers that K1 are doing in Japan. 10 years that was not even imaginable. half the country - 160 m watched the rematch of Kameda vs Landaeta. 42 % of the country watched naito vs kameda. its not just the kameda brothers , nishioka , aoh and especially hasegwa are all big stars there. earthquake has nothing to do with it.
martygi 7 months ago
@martygi If you look at the last 100 years in Japan boxing hasn't had nearly the success of martial arts competitions including K-1. The earthquake effected more business's than you realize. When a promotion plans events they are forced to cancel, they lose millions in advertising. As you said boxing wasn't even imaginable 10 years ago in Japan. It has taken off their recently because they lost all the Marque fighters in the pride sale. Dream is working to acquire more talent & still kicking.
Immortalsyn83 7 months ago
@Immortalsyn83
Dream is in a pretty bad way though. With Elite going bust and lack of funding etc, that company is not in a healthy place. Their advertising revenues have got to be way down with their collaspe in TV viewership figures. there was talk late last year that the company was about to fold. the also only put on four events last year which was down on previous years and only one event this yr to date (granted earthquake aint helped). the Sengoku promotion is also in dire straights.
martygi 7 months ago
@martygi Dream has always put on a minimum of 5 events annually & never more than 7 a year. There was talks about folding dream but then they got new investors to keep the company afloat & seek out new talent. Dream had plan to put on more this year but had to scrap them due to the quake. Sengoku had spent too much on fighters and advertising & the day after the earthquake Don Quijote (Sengoku's primary sponsor) announced they where ceasing all funding to WVR effectively closing the promotion.
Immortalsyn83 7 months ago
the earthquake has nothing to with it. A reduction in the number of PPVs is alot to do with that
martygi 7 months ago
@martygi Dream just sold 26,729 tickets at Saitama Super Arena the beginning of this year. The same time last year they did 45,606 in 2009. The first event they hold normally every year on Dec 31st is always the biggest. A reduction in PPV was necessary for boxing because they didn't have any fighters that where PPV draws except a few. Due to that earthquake dream was forced to cancel one or two events & Sengoku a very popular MMA brand was forced to shut down the day after the earthquake.
Immortalsyn83 7 months ago
@Immortalsyn83
for the rest of asia are you telling me MMA is bigger in India and China. you would be wrong my friend. look at both those countrys respective boxing programmes that competed in the olympics and commonwealth games. look at the TV figures boxing is getting in those countries. In phillipines, i grant you that Muay thai is the biggest sport but i can guarantee you that Manny Pacquaio are Nonito Donaire are the biggest sport stars in the Phillipines.
martygi 7 months ago
@martygi Art of war is China's Premier MMA promotion & a fucking amazing one at that. They have put on some amazing fights. They just sold part of their company to Flash Entertainment in Abu Dhabi & have plans to expand to the middle east. India just also created an MMA league in 2009 so dispite what you think MMA is becoming more popular world wide & is far from peaking. MMA will eventually be in the Olympics, it was in the original Greek games for over 1000 years. Agree Pacman is loved there.
Immortalsyn83 7 months ago
@Immortalsyn83 boxing shits on UFC ppv buys every year
The problem is the reported buys for boxing are just the HBO-Showtime numbers which are US based only, while the reported buys for UFC are global; it's an unfair comparison one country vs many
ArmourRhino1928 6 months ago
@ArmourRhino1928 UK & Japan have the same thing for MMA... Boxing is being shat on by one MMA company. Boxing still has the biggest draws but fall short every year in PPV buys because they only have 2-3 decent PPV's a year when MMA is pumping out 15 minimum from a single company plus free fights on spike; Versus; and HDNET hosts everything else but strikeforce which is showtime (also zuffa owned.)
Immortalsyn83 6 months ago

So fixed not even funny.
levedia 6 months ago
@levedia The best fighter will always beat the best boxer in MMA. If you spend your life perfecting a single stand up style then you will always be at a disadvantage in a full body combat sport. Nobody has better boxing skills than a boxer or they are in the wrong profession. Mercer vs Kimbo was not a fixed fight, Mercer was looking to counter punch Kimbo because he was expecting him to come out swinging not take him down which is what all MMA fighters would do to a boxer if they want to win.
Immortalsyn83 6 months ago
@levedia prime tyson would end up worse than cro cop. cro cop could kick knee he came from k1 tyson is just a puncher. ur mad cuZ boxing lost and sucks
ageeeeeeeeee 6 months ago
the biggest issue when it comes to the financial argument between boxing/mma is because they are both run differently. with boxing, fighters are completely independant, they control who they fight, agree to the venue, the cut between themselves etc, and are controlled by commisions that are way 2 laid back. with mma, its runned as a legit business, getting fighters 2 sign contracts 2 fight for them, and in these contracts they choose who they fight. Because of this the owners decide the amount
BigManGale 7 months ago
the guy 2 the left had a good point towards the end of the video, boxing has been around since 1890, the first ufc/mma event in america was in 1993, this means there is ova a 100 year time difference. If mma was around the same time, I bet money in mma could be even better than that of a floyd mayweather or a 'pac-man'.
BigManGale 7 months ago
wow all of you guys putting your little brains in on this need to go watch Rocky Marciano or Joe Louis that is if you MMA guys can read let alone write or spell look like the man said it's apples and oranges why do you idiotic nit wits keep trying to compare to Boxing did you ever get in a fight if not then shut your weak ass girlie mouths
deathdreadful 7 months ago
@easyempire You have to understand the way sports work! There really isint a comparison between top boxers and top MMA guyz! Think about how bad todays MMA fighters are going to be in 25 years! Guys like Jon Jones and GSP are going to be the rule... not the exception! To say MMA athletes are more skilled than boxers is to misunderstand both sports drastically brother! There is a reason why Top10 boxers command that kinda cash! when MMA does... it'll attract those high caliber guys 2!
Gooseman2k2 7 months ago
The primary reason boxers make more cash is because the sport has been established longer & all those PPV's, gate sales & sponsors they had for 25-50+ years put money into the sport. Future athletes of MMA will make a great living thanks to the pioneers of the sport. Boxer's skills are undeniable, as are MMA fighters. They are both masters of their crafts & shouldn't be expected to easily cross over to the other sport as both are drastically different.
Immortalsyn83 7 months ago
@Immortalsyn83 Boxing is not a centralized company sport... its more like a Feudal system. But in theory i still agree with you... Although i would hesitate to call any MMA guy today a "master" of his craft... IF his craft is MMA... There are plenty of Master BJJ guys, Wrestlers, Muay Thai's, Judokas, Boxers... But there are no master MMA fighters yet!
The reason for this is simple... if your the top amature boxer in the world... Why go MMA? why not go into boxing for real money!
Gooseman2k2 7 months ago

MMA is all fighting techniques from all over the world used to compete against an opponent EX: Karate, Jeet Kune Do, Tae kwon do, Muay Thai, Wrestling, Jiu-jit su(all forms), Kickboxing,Etc. oh yeah did i mention BOXING...
apeescape617 7 months ago
Boxing isnt more exciting than UFC...most boxing matches are one sided fights & just sell out for the money..the financial comparison is stupid that guy is an idiot..Face it Boxing is slowly dying out and UFC is growing rapidly...None of the top boxers want 2 fight the top UFC fighters..James Toney lost to Randy Couture he talked shit and lost..Ray Mercer lost 2 Kimbo and Kimbo sucks but i will give Mercer for ko over Sylvia..Boxing-1 MMA-2
apeescape617 7 months ago
@MrHansonGreen
MysticNinjaJay 7 months ago

@HGTheory my pont is that mma fighters only fight washed up boxers
krunkmasterj 7 months ago
@krunkmasterj True but I consider Tim Sylvia washed up as well. When he fought Mercer it was in Adrenaline MMA. A promotion nobody has even heard of. Then you have out of his prime James Toney fighting a 47yr old out of his prime Couture. They're not fighting the top mma fighters either.
HGTheory 7 months ago
@TheChoada ur right, a legend in his own sport and a fat out of shape athlete coming to a different sport. Just shutup, ufc fighters no better then to switch to boxing against a top fighter and at least a James Toney had the balls to fight Randy Coture in his own sport. James said ok now you fight me in my own sport and Randy didn't accept.

ageeeeeeeeee 6 months ago
@ageeeeeeeeee james toney is a nobody in boxing now, he was the IBF heavyweight champion which that belt really means nothing. It's not like he attracts David Haye or the Klitschko brothers, plus the heavyweight division is no longer the most entertaining division. Its funny how when Riddick Bow beat that white mma fighter you didnt see alot of boxing fans talkin shit unlike you ufc fans, and if they were I didnt see it as much as this.
Gr33nsPoint56 6 months ago
@Gr33nsPoint56 lol if wlad thinks he is a nobody then why doesnt he fight james for alot of money then he is scared pussy. and riddick bow has not made his mma debut yet. silly boxing fans like to bring race into the arguement. bob arum blasts the ufc lou dibella blasted it during an interview wen they werent event talking bout mma.
ageeeeeeeeee 6 months ago
@ageeeeeeeeee all i said was white, not sayin it in any racial way what so ever dumbass. Riddick Bow has been doin MMA just not in the UFC so get your shit straight. Go look it up, they tried to make it a big deal saying boxing vs mma and Riddick won by knock out in the first round. From what i remember you blasted boxing so im just defending it you piece of shit.
Gr33nsPoint56 6 months ago
@Gr33nsPoint56 LOL LIES!!! Riddick Bow back out of the fight he was supposed to have in 07 moron. He threw in the towel on his MMA career without a single fight, because he realized he couldn't cut it in MMA. When will you retarded boxing fans realize boxer's aren't even the best stand up fighters lead alone top fighters in the world. At boxing yes they are the best however add feet and they are completely out of their element., add knees; elbows; take downs & they are like a fish out of water.

@Immortalsyn83 fuck you fuck you fuck you....I meant Ray Mercer, so still, everything Ive said but with Ray Mercer
Gr33nsPoint56 6 months ago

ChicagoProdigy 8 months ago
@ChicagoProdigy Every sport started with pioneers in the sport for pride & spirit of competition. Pride FC fighters didn't start fighting for money or fame, they simply wanted to be the best. GSP made over a million last year in fight bonus's alone, we don't know his contract with the UFC nor how much exact sponsorship money he makes per year but he is clearly making good money. 15 years ago making 100K+ a year was crazy in this sport, UFC paid 85 fighters at least that in bonus's alone in 2010.

i like boxing coz its strategic knocking down a guy with only a punch? man thats not easy, and plus the science of boxing is amazing! mma and ufc their alright, but i dont like to see dudes kissing each others ass, hugging in the ground, even though they call it grappling, but 4 me i call it hugging, i rather wanna see someone being punch and sleep in the canvas thats it.....

jassir1316 8 months ago
@jassir1316 You mean like when Couture destroyed Toney? LOL!
stacky852002 8 months ago
@macmaccanonoy19 It does all come down to preference, both can be exciting & dull. The argument of who has the better fighters is obvious, boxers are not well rounded fighters. Both have their share of flaws and are extremely tough and competitive at the highest levels. I enjoy MMA more than boxing because I find it more fascinating watching different styles of fighters competing with less restrictions. MMA has a higher KO percentage than boxing, and fighting requires more strategy than boxing.
Immortalsyn83 8 months ago
@Immortalsyn83 aight dawg, thats what u like and u prefer it that way, so fine suit ur self, if thats what ur comfortable, but 4 me i dont like 2c guys hugging, i mean grappling 1 another, and kissing asses, thats why i dont watch mma, thats why i love 2 watch boxing, the sweet science of boxing, by just the use of a punch and try 2 ko the opponent and let him kiss the canvas w/ out even hugging (i mean grappling) just by the use of a punch and i find it science, hehehe
macmaccanonoy19 8 months ago
@macmaccanonoy19 I grew up watching boxing, i appreciate the skill of a boxer however you take the top money making boxer IE Floyd Mayweather & put him in a cage that shit won't last a minute. If you put an MMA fighter in a boxing ring with some boxing experience and a solid chin he could survive 12 rounds of Mayweather because Mayweather isn't know for his KO power. It's not a matter of comfort in preference, it's purely wanting to see the top athletes in the world competing in combat.
Immortalsyn83 8 months ago
@macmaccanonoy19 It means more to many people who the top fighters in the world are, which is why MMA is rivaling boxing in popularity. American's after a century have finally woken up and realized boxers are not the best fighters in the world. The art of boxing is easily countered with proper training, boxers are not well rounded fighters... they are simply just boxers. Boxing is an important skill but its only one of many skills a pro fighter must learn to be successful in a an actual fight.
