It might have been possible that Diamond Weapon knew Shin-Ra was going to fire the shot at the Crater, and positioned itself to act as an additional shield against the shot, as well as to attack Midgar itself. Sephiroth had an idea of Shin-Ra's capabilities, and knew the Sister Cannon had a chance at disabling his barrier.

A little nitpick, Shin-ra doesn't fire Sister Ray to defend Midgar from Diamond WEAPON. They fire the cannon directly at Sephiroth's shield over the Northern Cave. Hitting Diamond was just a bonus. I'm not even sure that Shin-Ra knew Diamond was there.

Each of the WEAPONs individually and together are powerful, but Sin by itself can leave massive lines of destruction across the planet using Giga Graviton.

But don't get me wrong, all the WEAPONs together would still give Sin a run for it's money, especially Ruby And Emerald.

A more equal fight would be Vegnagun vs the WEAPONs.

Actually, it is not officially announced. If that was true, it would have been registered in NA, or JPN. However, there are numerous hints of a remake: CC's Ending, PS3 Technical Demo, and the VII 10th Anniversary message: The best is yet to come. Hey, atleast the Compilation ends in 2018, so I guess we can only watch and wait!
