In my participation in off and on-line autism support groups, it's the parents who want the cure and the adult on the spectrum who doesn't. I think we're all thinking too far ahead. Prevention and treatment, in my opinion are what's important-oh and services for adults w/autism-the forgotten ones.

Have you bothered to ask them if they want a cure? Look at the opinions of autistic adults. Most of us don't want a cure. I don't want a cure because autism is a fundamental part of who I am. Get rid of the autism and you get rid of me. What I want is services and programs that help me. But far to much money is wasted on research to make sure that people like me will no longer exist. That money could be better spent actually helping people like me.

Why should Kanner syndrome be cured? Even if there were good arguments for curing Kanners, it wont just be that. Cures and prevention will impact ALL of us on the autism spectrum, not just the "low functioning" people with Kanners. By the way, Dr.Temple Grandin has Kanners. According to Dr.Grandin, if Nicola Tesla were around today, he would be diagnosed with Autism, not Aspergers. So some of these "extreme cases", go on to do great things, like inventing the AC electricity.

And Hillary's actions, in publically endorsing a terrorist organisation that explicitly states its goal to be the genocide of those like me, are reprehensible. The thim-agents theory has been disproven several times over. I have chld with Asperger's syndrome 9 (born 1998). I have believd for some time that this could be the cause, however,the FDA has reduced the mercury levels(thimerosal) in immun. since 2000, the diagnosis of ASD has maintained it's rise regardless;therefore disproving the non-link-to thimerosal immunization claim. I am still,myself,on the fence as far as this is concerned,however I do have a son born 2002 that has NO signs of Autism.
