he is family to me as well, not for sure how far down the line though, its crazy how all the menard men look almost the same, he looks like my pawpaw and uncle:) well, they look like him, im sure he is older then them:)
I met D.L. several years back...and we met several times after that at house parties that friends were holding. He and I would "sing for our supper" and those are some of the most memorable times of my life...when you sit next to him and listen to him sing, his voice is strong, pure, and LOUD. Love that man!!!
he is the best i have ever heard do this song. I have to admit that I havent heard much from Mr. Menard. I am also a guitar player from Kinder, La. I wish I could sit and play with him, I am sure there is alot I could learn from him.
Wow, this is great. It's interesting how Menard has never tried to distance himself from his greatest influence, Hank Williams. He's an amazing talent, long deserving of greater recognition.
As I heard the story, DL got a chance to talk with Ol' Hank, and Williams told him to do things his own way. I think that's why he's always held Williams in high regard. And why not. They are both legends, only Hank is more well known.
DL hatless still sounds great ... the only one I've heard who could do Hank justice... love this video.
