stefan is just a wonder and so an awesome driver, super high skilled to handle especially this car, well tricky is a fine word, for the drivability on that engine with wheels;) and hey "smarios5" thanks for the great laugh with thatmalboro-joke hahaha;)
Listen my friends, Stefan doesn't wear silly little gloves or fancy headgear; how else would he light up his Marlboro on the last straight.........enjoy !!!
Jeans and t-shirt, no helmet, new lap record (at the time) all done in the classic 911/ctr that oversteered like a sledghammer! Stefan Roser is a driving god!
I first saw this video around 1990, when I was at the Porsche Club of America Tech Session in Oklahoma City, Ok. Louis Ruf was there, and I remember him saying that Stefan would get bugs on the doors (obviously referring to him driving with the tale so far out). He also mentioned that he would go trough a set of rear tires in 2 laps around the Ring. Of course I had to buy a copy of the tape before I left and form time to time I still watch it.
Exactly. It was always designed as a promotional video. He wasn't trying to set a fast time - he was trying to get people all excited about the Ruf CTR...
when you're driving at the very limit, "smooth" goes out the window. and i know drifting technically slows you down, but when you factor in line dynamics it sort of changes things..
Stefan Roser "or Yellowbird" became very famous from the video that you see "Faszination". He was close friend with Alois Ruf who was calling him "Sideways Stefan" due to his great driving style...
lol... yeah keep going... i know the track... on gt4 only... :-P... i love how stefan throttle steers the tighter corners... brilliant car control. stefan = god... me=quivering boy...
best driver ever though. set record at nuremburg that was not beat by open wheel car fo a LONG time. People don't realize that the drifting he is doing is not for looks, but actually to "push" him through the track faster. It's a massively powered rear-engine thing.
I've spent a good amount of time behind the same car with the same power, and I'm a good Porshe 930 turbo driver, and I've got to tell you, this guy is AWESOME.
It's true... He is only drifting to kill some of the understeer that the car might have entering the corner... Thus is always killing the drift by small corrections at the wheel, he only needs a sorten amount of oversteer! This lap is insanely fast ....
I was under the impression the guy driving was in fact Stefan Roser...in fact I'm 100% sure it is as this is the Faszination promo vid for the RUF CTR.
that's probably the most bravest drifting I've ever seen ever - and he isn't Asian!

ruf ctr "yellowbird" aside from the rims it looks like a plain-jane 911, but the reality is:
0-60: 3.65sec
0-100: 7sec
top speed : 211+mph
to this day it is the fastest 911 ever built...
07tbest 2 years ago
Ruf manufactures 30% of the parts used making it the manufacturer not a Porsche aftermarket tuner. Therefore it is not technically a 911 but a CTR.

technically you can put a horn on a horse but that doesn't make it a unicorn
07tbest 2 years ago
not to suggest that Stephan Roser is not extreemly skilled, but woulden't a smoother driving approach gain a faster lap time?
i guess he was just trying to show off the agility of the car
