Avs fan here and I hate Vancouver with every fiber of my being. Most of my posts have proven that. However, Linden is one of those athletes you want your kids looking up to. He's more of the Sakic, Yzerman type. This type of sportsmanship is why hockey is so unique.
And BTW Linden is right - Jarome Iginla is the best in the world today. Closest thing we have in hockey to a Sakic, Yzerman, #99 type.
Too bad Mike Keenan entered the picture in Vancouver and Calgary. I think both franchises were on better paths without him. I also wish Linden could have hung on until this year (2010-2011), because the Canucks are about to tare the rest of the NHL a new asshole in the playoffs.
Trevor Linden: "Iggy... your the best player in the game" ... ever since those words, i have so much respect for Vancouver .... beacuse you dont need to be 50+ goal scorer every year to be the best player whats makes a player the best is how he contributes to his team and his fans and to the nhl... and Iggy just showed it ... Go flames Go!
I will always hate the Flames because of course, they're our rival. But it just goes to show the respect that alot of players have for each other which you can't really find in other sports but hockey. Classy move from Iginla and the Flames, I hate them as a team but also give them respect at the same time.
as a follow calgarian, i feel as though only nucks fans and flames fans can truly (or fully) appreciate this video (no i'm not saying other's can't appreciate). we are talking about two players who've played (nearly) for the same team throughout their career. iggy being the most loved player for flames, and linden being one of the most for nucks, these are players that have been rival opponents for 11 years. mad respect to iggy and nuck fans. gl in the playoffs nucks, bring it back to canada
i hate iginla until he takes off his flames jersey for a team canada one. this show of respect doesn't happen in any other sport. linden and iginla are two of the classiest players to ever play the game.
I have hated the Flames since the 2004 playoffs. And I still do, but ever since this game, what they did for Trevor Linden, I forever gave them the respect they need. I will never cheer for them but that was great thing they did!
As a diehard Canucks fan, I hate the Calgary Flames as an arch-rival, but I have nothing but respect for Iginla. He's a true-blue hockey player and wears his heart on his sleeve. I was pissed when he wasn't the captain of Team Canada in the Olympics for 2010. Nonetheless, he is such a classy guy on and off the ice. Love the respect he gave Trev;
what's also sad is this was naslund's last game with the canucks,,, i hope they retire his number... he was the reason we're used to having high expectations and putting a respectable team on the ice.
this was the 2nd most emotional game i've watched. *luc bourbon's being 1st* linden is all heart. one of the best players to have played to game. he's number 1 in my books, and always will be.
This is why I am in love with this game of hockey. Pure respect and class of players. Excellent career Linden played, and great respect for Iginla. When my team is eliminated from the playoffs I usually go for either Calgary or Vancouver. Coincidence.
Iggy thanking Trevor....nothin runs deeper than 2 canadian hockey players souls.....true brotherhood, and yes it was classy for Iggy to do that. Thanx for some great hockey Trevor.....always a Canuck....and a canadian workhorse!!!
dammit i accidently pressed thumbs down to you. why is the thumbs down first!??!!? really sorry about that because nothing on youtube deserves more of a thumbs up than this video and what you said about it. I'm glad they show mom and dad in this video it's because of them that trevor became the man he is. and its parents all over the country who have the responsibility of teaching the kids that the important thing in sports isn't winning or losing but how you play the game and conduct yourself
no problem.......ive always liked Trevor....he's been a leader from the day he was a Med Hat Tiger...till the day he retired....too bad he couldnt do 1 more year, but only he knows when its time! Canadian Hockey...the best ever!! cheers
I will admitt that the canucks team now is probably a better and more complete team but in alot of ways you got to miss guys like Linden, Naslund, Cooke, and Morrison. Those guys had a few great seasons on this team before the Bertuzzi situation and the Lock out.
Now thats a class act alright. These two teams have stirred up one of the bigger/biggest rivalries in NHL. It's nice to see this kind of sportsmanship, and considering Iginla leads the Flames, I'm not surprised at his actions. Canuck fans sure appreciated it, and they hate everything about the Flames lol. Good to see these things.
i'll also add that I've never respected Canuck fans until this game. Iginla was given an ovation on the announcement of his goal (even before Iginlas gesture to Linden). Then when he led the Flames to shake Lindens hand, they cheered that on. To top it off, they cheered Iginla on the 2nd star announcement as if he were a Canuck. Kudos Canuck fans. The rivalry will continue, but it's nice to see you respect Iginla for the person and player he really is.
about avery? i suppose it wasnt absolutely necessary but the thing is a lot of parents wont put theirkids in hockey because theyre worried about the fighting, the hitting, the pressure from coaches and other parents. Trevor and Jarome prove that hockey can teach a young person so much about how to be a good, respectful person. the problem is probably only 5% of the nay-sayers saw and appreciate this but they ALL hear and see the BS that avery pulls all the time and think "typical hockey player"
And as a person who loves hockey so much, the kind of crap he gets away with bothers me a lot. Why cant he be more like Iginla and Linden? you dont have to be a 50 goal scorer or an award winner to show respect to your opponants. Maybe I shouldnt have even mentioned Avery's name with this video I just appreciate what these guys did so much and I wish it was just the norm in the NHL.
THIS is the reason to put your kids in hockey! These are the men you want your boys to grow up to be like. Thats why mom and dad are there with tears in their eyes. It's been one year since this happened and Sean Avery has given a lot of reasons but 2 or 3 in particular that should have him banned from the game. We need more men like Trever and Jarome and fewer children like Sean. I almost cried when this happened, good show everyone involved. Miss ya Trevor.
Here in the States I hear NOTHING about Iginla and previously Linden, and all I hear about is Ovechkin this, Ovechkin that which doesn't say much for USA's bandwagon hockey media. Iginla for me is everything you'd ever want in a hockey player - the most complete player in the game. He also has a track record of stepping up huge in big games. I'm a die-hard Colorado Avs fan and I admit that I wish more players were like Iginla and Super Joe (Sakic).
Sry to say, love Crosby as a player but overall he is a whiney lil shit and is not captain material. Good for him for being the captain of the Pens but him being the captain of Canada is an insult to Sakic, Iginla, Blake, Thornton, etc. Aside from that, I would love to see him again wearing the Red and White (last time I saw him play was in the World Juniors).
You must be kidding..Crosby over Iginla.. You must be a penguins fan because your the only person on this planet that would have Crosby captain a team over Iginla..
Smyl, Pavel Bure, Markus Naslund, Bertuzzi, Morrison, Jovanovski, Dan Cloutier, The Sedin twins, Luongo, MacLean, Babych, Mogilny, Geoff Courtnall and Trevor Linden are the greatest canuck players ever!!!
as a flames fan and calgarian, props to vancouver fans, as much as our team showed respect towards linden, you should tons of respect when iggy was selected as 2nd star and you cheered him on. you won't find that in a lot of other nhl cities... so thank yoooou van city for showing us as much respect as well. i pray to nhl gods that the cup goes to one of the two teams
To me it's so sad to watch this video, not only because of it being Linden's final game but also Luc's. To see him standing with his team mates and not knowing that he'd never be back is quite sad.
luc bourdon was a promising defenseman for the canucks. he was improving his maturity and skill every season but died in a motorcycle accident somewhere i think in new bruns when a semi collided with him. sad death. rip
True, but you cant really call 2 people out for an encore. When its potentially Lindens last game in the NHL and Naslunds last game before contract expires, who would you cheer for? Contract expiration or end of a NHL career... it's a bit obvious what most people would choose.
but vancouver media was really coming down on Naslund for no reason for years. They expected him to be like the top young guns, but he's a decade older. They needed to be more realistic.
linden will always be a canuck. and i cant say enuf about iginla and how terrific of a guy he is. I agree with linden one hundred percent when he sed iginla is by far the best player in the game. and hes got all the class in the world atop his skill.
I respect Iggy on a whole other level after that gesture. True class by #12. Linden will forever be a Canuck, and I can't wait to scream for him until my lungs burst on Dec. 17
Man, thats sad, i wish he didnt retire, one of the most respected players ever on the Canucks i think, Iginla showed some real respect there, but still, its really sad that he had to retire, or that he chose to :(
Iggy amazing class. Linden, is the face of Vancouver hockey, much respect from this Flames fan. Jim Hughson is the best play-by-pay commentator in the NHL, alot better than Mark Lee....Brutal!
This game made me very sad. Sad at the performance of my team. Sad that they couldn't do better for Trevor. Sad that I will never see Trevor on the ice again. I sat and cried, watching him skate around the rink for the last time. I've been watching him since '94. He made me a Canuck fan.
I cried when I watched this happen. I like Trevor Linden and he was a big part of the Canucks. He was a very nice guy, he seemed to be liked by many. I don't even feel like watching hockey anymore since this happened. May you enjoy your retirement Trevor, you will be dearly missed by this fan.
I Was there!!!! I'm 25 and Trevor's been a Canuck for as long as I can Remember. A great man, a true insperation. Treavor 4 ever, Linden 4 life!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hate the Canucks with all my soul, but that was one of the best things I have ever seen on a hockey rink. Great tribute to a great player. Hopefully he will make the Hall, great player, just awesome.
Yeah, what's your point? That's what I'm saying. There are many teams that haven't won it for a long time so what's the point in beaking Vancouver for not winning it when many teams haven't for a long time.
Ottawa fuckin won it in 1922 for christ sakes, who gives a shit. I can't believe your actually counting that as a cup. You know how many rings have been put on the cup since that win. Holy shit your a goof.
Vancouver won it in 1915, but there is no point in talking about things almost a century ago. And it doesn't matter when they won a cup, their name is still there? Have you won a Stanley Cup? The Leafs also have not won in 42 years, they still won the cup. But who cares? Unless whatever the team your cheering for wins in the current year, it doesn't matter. If they won it last year, and don't in the current year, it might as well be 42 years ago because the fans want it now.
actually nah not really. I met Trevor Linden...well I saw him on a ferry and yeah he was so down to earth and he was a pretty good player...the only reason I like hockey is because of him...but yeah I find it sad that he's retiring but meh maybe he will come back as a coach.
Trevor makes it official tommorow. Boy I always hated Calgary but what a class act with Iggy leading the way there with shaking Trevor's hand. Just for that I cheered for the Flames in the post season but as we know that didn't work out to well. Next year for both Nucks and Flames!
comparing the sens to the nucks is LUDACRIST!! one is a contender almost every single year. the other can only make the playoffs every second year. if you know hockey, you know that is comparing apples to oranges. and if you knew hockey, you would know the sens HAVE won the holly grail, this sens is the second attempt, the sens are the oldest hockey organization besides the habs and the hurtin make-b-leafs. but those are all things a true hockey fan would know.
Umm, well you see, heres where your wrong. The sens make it to the playoffs every year basically, sure, but what good is that if you cant get past the first round? They made it to the finals ONCE since 1991. Also what good is a cup if you won it more than 80 years ago? Back with only 4-6 teams. Maybe you need to do some research, Yeah? The Canucks when they do make the playoffs are contenders, not chokers like the Sens. By the way, the Make b-leafs have the better Playoff record versing the Sens
canucks are a contender? BAAHHAAHHAAHH!!!! what day was that? you are the ONLY TEAM IN CANADA TO NEVER WIN A CUP! YOU'RE IMBARRASING THE REST OF CANADA!!! you missed the playoffs with arguably the best goalie in the league, if you did'nt have him you would of finnished DEAD LAST!!! just calling a spade a spade
Really? Not contenders? Wel I count 94 and and 2006 as contending for a cup. Compared to the sens only making it to the finals once in 80 years. But yeah sure, Ill call a spade to and say you really dont know hockey.
you got lucky in '94 and what happened in 96?? just the fact you think the casux ever had a contender outside of MAYBE '94 shows how little YOU know about hockey. this conversation is OVER. and ps, THE ONLY CANADIAN TEAM TO NEVER WIN A CUP!!!!
ottawa what? never won a cup? if thats what you think you are a bigger retard then the rainman! check your stats before you open your pie-hole, JACKASS! and you got screwed by the refs did ya? OF COARSE YOU DID!! (EXTREME,sarcasim) YOU FUCKIN YEAST INFECTED CUNT!!!!!!
kids kids, ur arguing on youtube, i think that makes u all losers.
btw ottawa doesnt count. just because they reused the name, doesnt mean its the same club. but who cares. they still love hockey and their fans arent any less than toronto. good for them.
to bad he played for such a shitty team. the only team in canada to NEVER WIN A CUP! they only make the playoffs every second year. HOW PATHETIC!!!!!!
Bad offence? you gotta be joking me! they have Daniel Alfredson, Dany Heatley and Jason Spezza...thats an amazing offence! I thought you said you know hockey!?! cause it sure sounds like you dont! and seriously anyone who can hold a stick can play hockey! Also way to avoid my statement of Linden's contributions to hockey!
all of work with the NHLPA and charity work. and rocker85675 i think we are talking about the newest part of the franchise, not back in the early 1900's.
Trevor is a class act player. RIP Bourdon

as a flames fan and calgarian, props to vancouver fans, as much as our team showed respect towards linden, you should tons of respect when iggy was selected as 2nd star and you cheered him on. you won't find that in a lot of other nhl cities... so thank yoooou van city for showing us as much respect as well. i pray to nhl gods that the cup goes to one of the two teams

To me it's so sad to watch this video, not only because of it being Linden's final game but also Luc's. To see him standing with his team mates and not knowing that he'd never be back is quite sad.
Thanks for everything Trevor
RIP Luc. God bless.

who is luc
Konformation07 3 years ago
Luc Bourdon #28
He died in a motorcycle crash during the offseason and this was his final game. It's just sad that no one could have known.

I found out about after the video thanx for the reminding me
Konformation07 3 years ago
luc bourdon was a promising defenseman for the canucks. he was improving his maturity and skill every season but died in a motorcycle accident somewhere i think in new bruns when a semi collided with him. sad death. rip

i dont like the way we parted with naslund
it wasnt right
ooglyboogly24 3 years ago 4
True, but you cant really call 2 people out for an encore. When its potentially Lindens last game in the NHL and Naslunds last game before contract expires, who would you cheer for? Contract expiration or end of a NHL career... it's a bit obvious what most people would choose.
but vancouver media was really coming down on Naslund for no reason for years. They expected him to be like the top young guns, but he's a decade older. They needed to be more realistic.

May you enjoy your retirement Trevor, you will be dearly missed by this fan.

fker19 3 years ago 6
Yeah, what's your point? That's what I'm saying. There are many teams that haven't won it for a long time so what's the point in beaking Vancouver for not winning it when many teams haven't for a long time.
Wardo005 3 years ago
Ottawa fuckin won it in 1922 for christ sakes, who gives a shit. I can't believe your actually counting that as a cup. You know how many rings have been put on the cup since that win. Holy shit your a goof.
Wardo005 3 years ago
Vancouver won it in 1915, but there is no point in talking about things almost a century ago. And it doesn't matter when they won a cup, their name is still there? Have you won a Stanley Cup? The Leafs also have not won in 42 years, they still won the cup. But who cares? Unless whatever the team your cheering for wins in the current year, it doesn't matter. If they won it last year, and don't in the current year, it might as well be 42 years ago because the fans want it now.

I say Trevor Linden's retirement marked the day the Vancouver Canucks died.
Give some credit to heart and soul players here, but no Canuck ever gave team soul and spirit to capture fans' hearts like Captain Canuck.
We could win a Cup in three years, but we could wait another thirty before another great Canuck sets foot on the ice.
Three more years, Linden! Play until you win!

I propose relaxing the Canuck/Flame Rivalry, and just focus on hating the Oilers.
drivebypunch1 3 years ago 3
actually nah not really. I met Trevor Linden...well I saw him on a ferry and yeah he was so down to earth and he was a pretty good player...the only reason I like hockey is because of him...but yeah I find it sad that he's retiring but meh maybe he will come back as a coach.

comparing the sens to the nucks is LUDACRIST!! one is a contender almost every single year. the other can only make the playoffs every second year. if you know hockey, you know that is comparing apples to oranges. and if you knew hockey, you would know the sens HAVE won the holly grail, this sens is the second attempt, the sens are the oldest hockey organization besides the habs and the hurtin make-b-leafs. but those are all things a true hockey fan would know.
rocker85675 3 years ago
Umm, well you see, heres where your wrong. The sens make it to the playoffs every year basically, sure, but what good is that if you cant get past the first round? They made it to the finals ONCE since 1991. Also what good is a cup if you won it more than 80 years ago? Back with only 4-6 teams. Maybe you need to do some research, Yeah? The Canucks when they do make the playoffs are contenders, not chokers like the Sens. By the way, the Make b-leafs have the better Playoff record versing the Sens
Cameroonian661 3 years ago
canucks are a contender? BAAHHAAHHAAHH!!!! what day was that? you are the ONLY TEAM IN CANADA TO NEVER WIN A CUP! YOU'RE IMBARRASING THE REST OF CANADA!!! you missed the playoffs with arguably the best goalie in the league, if you did'nt have him you would of finnished DEAD LAST!!! just calling a spade a spade
rocker85675 3 years ago
Really? Not contenders? Wel I count 94 and and 2006 as contending for a cup. Compared to the sens only making it to the finals once in 80 years. But yeah sure, Ill call a spade to and say you really dont know hockey.
Cameroonian661 3 years ago
you got lucky in '94 and what happened in 96?? just the fact you think the casux ever had a contender outside of MAYBE '94 shows how little YOU know about hockey. this conversation is OVER. and ps, THE ONLY CANADIAN TEAM TO NEVER WIN A CUP!!!!
rocker85675 3 years ago
How about Ottawa you fucking retard. And lucky? Watch the clips, the Rangers barely escaped with the win after a screwjob from the refs.
Wardo005 3 years ago
ottawa what? never won a cup? if thats what you think you are a bigger retard then the rainman! check your stats before you open your pie-hole, JACKASS! and you got screwed by the refs did ya? OF COARSE YOU DID!! (EXTREME,sarcasim) YOU FUCKIN YEAST INFECTED CUNT!!!!!!
rocker85675 3 years ago
kids kids, ur arguing on youtube, i think that makes u all losers.
btw ottawa doesnt count. just because they reused the name, doesnt mean its the same club. but who cares. they still love hockey and their fans arent any less than toronto. good for them.

to bad he played for such a shitty team. the only team in canada to NEVER WIN A CUP! they only make the playoffs every second year.

Also way to avoid my statement of Linden's contributions to hockey!
scottelement 3 years ago
i know hockey but not the about the sens to me their offense sucks and i can hold a stick that has a blade and what the hell is contributions
