  • Hey Sootch00! Just wanted to let you know that you made at least one sale for AB Arms because of your video. ;-) I recently upgraded my very basic AR-15 by replacing the fiberlite handguard with the AB Arms one, and replacing the fixed stock with a Magpul MOE(the one that comes with the buffer tube, castle nut, etc.). I haven't been to the range yet, but I love the feel of the AB Arms handguard(and the Magpul stock!). Well worth the $66($60+$6 s&h)! So thanks for reviewing it! :-D

  • looks really cool but it needs to be free floating

  • You might want to check Magpul's channel out, too. Look for the video that talks about the pistol grip. That might chage how you use & think about it.

  • I don't know why they put the top rail so high? I like my rails to be even with the upper receiver's rail......

  • @IndianaGeologist Hello Indiana. The rail is set at riser height. If you run your rifle short this comes in handy. Thanks

  • Sootch, I have that same Phantom flash hider. Love it!

  • Only 60 bucks...wow

  • @snomankak Only 40.00 now. I just ordered one last night around midnight and they shipped it this morning! Talk about fast service!

  • your cameras MIC is great, it captures true acutic perspective dynamics of your guns as you fire them...

  • wow that is easily the sexiest M4/AR handguard ive ever seen!

  • Nice video. How about Skate board tape for the bottom?

  • The cromeshops video is the best there is on this forend

  • Hummm..only black >...need OD green..

  • very modern looking

  • sweet grip / never had anything like that in the army 76-79 wish i could afford something past a 22 LOL

  • Have you seen the M4 Tactical Flared Magwell & Grip? I installed one on my AR and I love it! so I went and bought 3 more for my other AR's. I like the concept of the whole thing, works good. I only recommend the ones made here in the USA. No grinding to make it fit. and they won't hurt the pocket book.

  • Damn it Sootch! Now I have to buy another item you reviewed! LOL

  • Magpul has a cool new angled grip (AFG-Angled Fore Grip) you should try out. I'm hearing that several of my friends in the field are liking it.

  • @Abigsky i want that new AFG foregrip by magpul will it fit on this handguard?

  • Only 3 things you need on your rifle:

    1. Optic

    2.BUIS

    3. Light

  • @samuraitactical556 Belive it or not, some people are are efficent with iron sights!

  • I ALWAYS love the ending. :)

  • That handguard makes the gun look MEAN. I love it.

  • I want a mid length one!

  • Damn. That is the best looking Handguard I've ever seen. I don't even own an AR yet and I might get that forend just to hang on my wall. Great video and thanks for posting.

  • Great another thing I have to buy! Thanks sootch!

  • Cool looking HG. Very futuristic looking. I would kind of like to see a longer version tho cuz if you're using flip up BUIS the sight radius seems like it'd be kind of short as it is. I'm also not a big fan of vertical forward grips but I absolutely love the Magpul V-shaped angled foregrip. Have you tried that? If so, did you like it?

  • I like that hand guard, it make it look really space age.

  • Those hand guards look good.I put a Magpul set on one of my M4geries.Good video.I saw in the knife sharpening video that you are in Greenville.Hello neighbor,I am about 10 miles south of you.

  • excellent video!! ill be reviewing these hand guards my self. i love the look and feel of them. great info!

  • Man that handguard looks nice!! Take care my friend!!!

  • I also went a similar way with a Magpul MOE hand guard. Decided to be sensible and not over-cool-ness the rifle. So bought a single rail for $6, set of scope rings for less than $10 and a $1.50 1" diameter LED mini flash from Home Depot. One tactical light for under $20. I'm not cheap, just always broke :-)

My AR does have a LMT upper / BCG that I got on sale (yep I'm mr budget)

  • Sootch ... I just bought this handguard. I can't afford any more tacticool stuff, please stop these videos.

Can I get into a rehab facility for this Sootch addiction?

  • I like that!

  • Good review! thanks for posting!

  • sootch great find that thing looks functional and very light weight. I hope they come out with a midlengh setup it would help even more over those heavy quad rails that everyone runs, I think atleast.

  • Futuristic looking but I like the classic version aka C7/M16A2 version.

  • Ascetically awesome good find sootch.

  • Ascetically awesome. Good find Sootch.

    No Light?

  • Hey Sootch,

That is a very neat product.

    Thanks

  • looks like it would help with consistency, b/c your support hand falls into exactly the same position every time you shoulder the rifle.

  • I've seen another youtube video on this, where they tested its heat resistance on a full auto M4 Carbine w/ a couple of mag dumps. No issues, functions as advertised. For me, it still seems too chunky compared to my KAC RAS. I also don't like how the hand guard rail is higher than the receiver rail. They should've made a low profile version strictly for traditional d.i. AR15 rifles instead a of one size fits all system.

  • Really good and informative video, keep up the good work!

  • Not diggin it. Not a fan of the rail on top. And it being on a different plane as the receiver's bugs me that much more. Otherwise, it seems like a nice alternative to the MOE.

  • great job sootch. I attached my videos as a response for your approval if you want. Take care

  • excellent video sootch. I agree 100%

  • Great review: But he heat shielding -- that it works so very well has me wondering if it interferes with good barrel cooling.. Given my choice between an uncomfortably warm grip and a prematurely eroded barrel, I'll take the hot hand..... Looking at the construction, do you think the AB grip allows as much air flow as other fore-ends?

  • Thanks for the product review, sootch00.

  • I'm number 103 like!!!

  • Comment removed

  • How does it feel to shoot rifle with your thumb over the top? Kind of looks like the forward assist would look comfortable

  • Looks like I might be looking into this for my 14.5 build. Looks sickeningly awesome.

  • That looks nice. I like the option to put on short segments of rail if needed. A flashlight would be about the only thing I would need to put on my rifle.

  • Is this 'the shoulder thing that goes up?'

  • @ustfu And yet she gets elected year after year by anti-American pro-Communist NYers. She's trying to ban semi-autos again.

  • @ustfu HAHAHAHAHAH! I remember that, when the dumb lady was describing a "muzzle shroud"

  • looks nice light.

  • yo Sootch man u ever get your hands on those Magpul Angled Fore Grips? I'm really curious to see how they feel, but I can't try em out in any stores nearby

  • actually gunwebsites weighed some hand guards and quite a few aluminum hand guards were lighter than polymer ones! i was shocked!

  • lol im afrade of my 308

  • Also combat load. You can carry a lot more 5.56 rounds than .308 with the same weight. any one recall the ratio?

  • @glockman1727ak47 your gonna need those extra rounds to take down a person while it only takes a .308, 1 or 2

  • @1airplane21 Depends on the shot placement and the tolerance of the person you're shooting. Seen' a Marine shoot an insurgent 3 times with 7.62 x 51 with an m21, took his arm off and exposed his guts and still he was running, not till' a shot in the head did the insurgent finally fall (drugged up fella).

  • @adobo777 now how many 5.56 shots would have have taken?

  • @1airplane21 SHOT PLACEMENT. Also, with a 20" AR, you have a higher velocity than a 16", and as such will have greater damage possibility from rounds 'exploding' on impact.

  • @EchoOfLohengrin never heard of bullets exploding.... could you show me where you found this that would be quite interesting. I was talking about a difference of calibers .308 vs 5.56 not barrel lengths, so your comment is irrelevant.

  • @1airplane21 I said 'exploding'. Notice the punctuation around the word exploding. The apostrophe's denote a simplified explanation. 5.56, when fired from a 20" barrel, can have more devastating injuries inside 200 yards, whereas .308 goes right on through. What happens is the 5.56, when fired from a 20" barrel, has a much higher chance of immediate destabilization, which causes the bullet to yaw severely and separate into pieces. 7.62 just goes through like sticking a pen through saran wrap.

  • @EchoOfLohengrin

Uh you do realize german DAG yaws and fragments, and it's a 7.62 nato? Most 7.62 now days has terrifying terminal performance at any range. 5.56 will never, in any way, be comparable.

  • @skyhop 5.56 has a flatter trajectory and reaches 500m faster. I'll stick to 5.56 for a combat rifle, simply because I can use generally the same sight picture from an optic for 50 to 250 yards, and only have to make minimal adjustments out to about 400. What it all comes down to is shot placement anyway, and I find 5.56 easier to work with than 7.62. I can deliver considerably faster followups and much more accurate fire with a 5.56, personally.

  • @EchoOfLohengrin doesnt matter if a 5.56 can reach 500m at that range the bullet will have lost so much energy it cannot tumble or yaw and just passes clean through, so that is why a effective range is only 300m in a 20 inch barrel with a 14-16 inch it loses its tumbling ability alot faster

  • @EchoOfLohengrin i think you mean tumbling, and its quotations around a word not apostrophe. 5.56 needs that tumbling to make the same wounds as a 7.62, because a 7.62 has so much energy that it will knock a person down and make large exit wounds. a 5.56 is much more likely to pass clean through because its going so fast it cannot impart its energy on the victim

  • My 20" A4gery with KAC M5 is only 8.3lbs... I think I'll stick with that. This handguard looks like it belongs in a game like Halo anyway. haha

  • Pretty fancy but I would never want to get mud on that, especialy the fine Iraqi crap...

  • I was watching the injection molding process of these being made.

    schmoo

  • Sootch ,you ain't met my Momma...iffin you cant bring home something to eat with that fancy gun ...she will grab it out of your hands, whack you upside the head with it ...hand you a 12 side by side and tell you not to come home without some dinner...72 years young and still sharp as a tack..

    Peace

  • Wery nice. Makes the rifle look pretty sharp, and its functional too. I like having a frontgrip with legs on it, and i could fit this on here. Id buy one.

  • The best part was when u said your MOMMA . Sootch is a Huwt .

  • sweet video sootch! think i may get one now =)

  • Looks alot like magpul.

  • @sootch00

looks cool...nice grip...it would take a minute to get used to...i allways grab all the way out to the end of my rifel...dont know way...but it looks like it would work with the forward hand grip up front...dont know...cool vid bro..

  • Good video. That looks like a nice handguard but I don't see what it does that a Magpul Angled Foregrip doesn't do. It is cool looking though. You know what would sell it to me? If that large area on the underside held a flashlight and the handguard was set up to take slings on the side (a small rail might work).

It looks like a great handguard with a lot of potential but I wish it had some way to mount a light that wasn't blocking the scope.

Keep up the good work and thanks for the heads up

  • @Tedkennedysswimcoach Hello bud. You can mount an aftermarket rail section in any of the slots either on the sides or on the bottom. Problem solved. We tried to think of allmost everything. LOL. Thanks

  • @Tedkennedysswimcoach KZ OFM Offset Flashlight Mount

  • Very nice looking product and the price seems reasonable. However a quick question. It looks like the rails on the grip are higher than the rails on the receiver. is that how the rails are set up or is it a optical illusion? I have a straight flat top without a front sight and run flip-ups both front and rear so that is a slight concern I have. Thanks Sootch for the video!

  • @ILPrepper The rail sets at riser height. The reason we decided to go that direction was because most folks use risers with magnifiers. Also we love to set up ours as scout setups so we can run them short. If your irons sit on your gas block and on your reciever they will cowitness through your site if it is located on the hand guard. Thanks

  • Cool product. I'm still having a hard time to find a good affordable rail that is forward of the A2 front sight and fits on my Carbine length. The natural placement for me what I shoot competition and tactically is with my weak arm extended all the way out. This puts my hand nearly past my front sight.

  • Nice!

  • If you could just integrate a MagPul AFG2 to the bottom, it would be perect!

  • Looks great!

  • Gorgeous

  • Just as I suspected. Twice the price. Why get anything but an MOE?

  • @therealcarbine15 You work for Magpul dont you? If so please post a vid of the MOE being shot full auto by a regular guy not in a testing environment. If you would like to see ours put to the test check out our channel. There are so many differences I would have to reply 3 times. Thanks

  • @abarms11b It does look like a neat product, but I would suggest making a version with the palm swell further forward for those who like to shoot with an extended forward grip.

  • @SurvivalPax Working on that right now for the full length version. Thanks brother

  • is this for free floating barrels?

  • How does this compare to the Magpul MOE? It looks heavier and more expensive.

  • I love fire arms!

  • Hahahaha difference between .223 and yo mama aaaaaahahahahaha ur funny D.

  • I've been seriously considering these,,,, I just wish the top rail was at the same height as the flat top of the receiver,,, :0/ .....

  • @SpeedyPalomino I agree, having the rail of the handguard level with the one of the rifle would be great. Maybe having a rail extension over the rifle rail would help level them out. Not too sure about that though.

  • Ever tried the thumb break technique for vertical grips, sootch?

  • meh. not liking the looks

  • Do you know if there are any plans for a mid-length one?

  • @warnerd14 Id like to know this as well

  • Looks amazing, and amazingly comfortable.

  • Very cool. Thanks for the great review. We are veteran owned and everything we manufacture is made in the USA. Our hand guard was designed for CQB. We were recently endorsed by Ann Arundel County Swat and Masada Tactical that trains the Maryland state police. I hope you love them!

  • @abarms11b awesome hand guards - keep up the good work. We need good quality AMERICAN parts for our AMERICAN rifles!!

  • @TheCromeShop Thanks brother you are the best. Its guys like you that make doing what I do enjoyable. Have fun.

  • @TheCromeShop

why not " made in china" ?

    :)

  • @sootch00 Will the eotech 512 the newest model where the front part of the bottom is risen for standard handguard work on this handguard?

  • AB ARMS Rock bro, thanks for the great review on an outstanding product, and a great American company!

    Thumbs up for sure!~~John

  • I like that handguard!

  • ok sootch ....now you are cool enough to come and shoot with me. at first i was afraid to be caught out in public with your guns but not now ! RANGE IS HOT

  • I'm gonna have to weigh my ar now

  • WOW. that really adds a futuristic look to the front of that rifle. Good buy Sootch.

  • i agree with the 4 rail thought....you end up making your rifle tacticool vs tactical :)

  • awsome first, finally! hey man love your videos! you remind me so much of my dad! hit me up maybe we can swap survial intel or ideas, btw i prefer both .308 and .223 lol why not have them both?!
