The thing with the Chinese bent arm kips, I don't think people are looking for them to get deducted for it. I think it's just mystifying that they're so great on the event but a simple thing like a kip, they're not doing right. It's a great example of what happens when a coach does not care to correct the athlete. The coach knows it doesn't really matter so the Chinese end up having beginner looking kips.
That's the way the Chinese are on a lot of other artistic sports such as Figure Skating and Diving. They go straight for the difficulty, but have some almost "beginner-type" deductions.
oh, i totally agree, and it's not only the bent arms on kips and transitions. it's also how they really muscle up their kips, which takes away from rhythm and form during a routine, in my opinion.
i agree, it does take away from the routine to see them muscle up the kip. And it doesn't matter that it is a basic skill, that actually means they should be better at it since they've been doing it longer. I feel that they should get more deducted since it is such a basic skill. It's like beam and floor when girls will have increadable tumbeling but screw up the easy dance connections. It all counts!!
i agree, these problems shouldve been corrected by the coaches in the early stages of learning the skill, but once youve been doing it for ten years...its very hard to correct it...so despite it being a basic skill, they have had that technique for years.
yeah, i also noticed australia making mistakes that should be corrected by coaches that instead go unchecked...dismounts, their toe-shoots on bars...little things that get scary fast
Do you think maybe it has something to do with Romania's excellent past record in women's gymnastics? Almost like they HAD to get a Romanian on the podium because of people like Nadia?
She stuck the landing but she's not that great during the preformance. You should do all you can to grip on the bar. It's stupid not to get real handgrips.
It doesn't surprise me that a girl from, say, Albania wouldn't be able to afford grips, but it is silly that a gymnast from a first-world country doesn't have them. Maybe she's just not used to them?
True - I think it's probably that she's not used to them, maybe she never trained with them anyway. It's not necessarily silly that she doesn't wear grips, but it might help her to wear them with the COP being the way it is now.
Well, she was the only really successful Italian female gymnast. She wasn't able to get a regulation length vaulting area until she won the AA in 2006. It doesn't surprise me that she isn't used to grips.
Hehehe true but she missed it 3 times in a row TF, AA, EF plus I think she missed it to at the Europeans EF and Nadia is his wife so the Comaneci Salto is not just another skill.
ugh the commentators are annoying! they talk too much

Sasha deserves a medal for his routine on the pommell horse, not fair!

Nastia is soooo jerky on bars, she should make it flow more. I know it's hard because she's taller, but there's plenty of room between the bars.

Ferrari doesn't swing as well as other gymnasts, it looks like she moves slower.

Theres something very suspistious about Nistor's scoring. I personally don't like this.

I agree, she was horrendously overscored in the all-around!

I hate the way Ferrari works bars.
And I hope the judges aren't taking off tenths for bent arms, when I know sometimes they let those split legs slide on dismounts

I dislike her technique as well, but man I almost felt a little bad for her when Bart was ripping into her terrible technique on the Comaneci!
