love the drumming too....the bassist on the tour is from Madison and I saw the tour in Milwaukee.Kind of a homecoming! Saw Dire Straits in Munich in 83" MK hopefully will still be playing 20 years from now....
I agree. One of MK's best ever. In 2005 I saw them play this in the Newcastle City Hall (where he went to see Chuck Berry when he was a kid). I thought the walls were moving in time to the music and that the roof would come off. Best moment of 2005 for me.
This video does not do justice - not even close! - to what is a phenomenally-moving song played phenomenally well by an incredible musician. I saw this performed in San Diego (Summer 2005?) and it was equally bad, a big disappointment, since this is one of my favorite songs ever.
When I saw him play this live, I was at a winery and most of the crowd was buzzed on wine so everyone was chatting through the whole show. So in the last verse they turned the volume up and played so loud everyone shut up. And when they hit the last note and the song was over, there was like a 2 second pause of silence until people started clapping. He will never cease to amaze me.
knopfler should buy it :)

I rate this song as one of the top 5 songs Knopfler has written/performed. The end solo kills anything in its wake.
