Another typical abusive police video, you'd be amazed how often this happens. For one of these videos they are caught, there are a thousand incidents they are not. I spent one night in jail only once in my life for public intoxication, they stole my money, beat me (5) of them for no reason other then they could because no one would beleive if i said anything (they told me this).

well that second historical police report explained everything. These two cops were in fear for their lives when they saw him drunk and sitting by the tree. No officer has the right to act independently and surely doesn't have the right to use more force than was used against another or themselves in bringing someone into custody. you don't understand the 1+ principle....when it comes to levels of force encountered by an officer, they can go one step above the resistance they are encountering. If a person is passively resisting, police officers can then go to soft empty hand techniques, if they are actively resisting (what was happening in this video by the person refusing to give up his arm) a police officer can go to hard empty hand techniques - which was done in order to gain compliance.
You don't understand that I'm not concerned with what powers have been given to the police. What is legal is not important. I'm concerned with what's a legitimate social action. Punching an older man in the face who's intoxicated and unresponsive to said punches is not appropriate behavior. Especially that last one. They could have easily overpowered the man. Legitimate force is defensive, proportional to the aggression and/or only that which is required to safeguard yourself.

You're right in this case though; the police were called to see if the guy needed help, and boy did those public servants help him. Right into the hospital and jail.

Bottom line is anyone defending the cops is either a cop or a relative.....or severely mentally disturbed. The defenders sound so absurd with their remarks. Roundhouse punches are necessary because the pigs were in danger. Give me a break. The bastard cops think they can do anything. But they got a surprise...they were caught on tape. Fat pricks!!

i understand all or at least most of you did not like my last post, and that's fine....none of you do the job they do so none of you understand it...there are times that cop needs to be physical, but probably soon because of people like you if somebody wants to fight a cop, the cop will just have to take it and let him run free. hope this is the world you all are ready to live in.

The only legitimate use of violence is defensive and proportional. The actions of that officer was obviously not proportional. The homeless man may have been aggressive but at the time they were attempting to cuff him as seen in the video you can clearly see he's just being slugged in the face and not even defending himself. There is no excuse. Just admit the cop lost his cool and went overboard. You dismissing what happened only pisses off people more.

you say a cops violence should only be defensive and proportional...then how would a cop ever take anybody to jail...police operate on the 1+ principle, which means that the level of resistance encountered can raise the level of force an officer uses...if cops just are to defend themselves, how can they ever put handcuffs on somebody, they are not being attacked or proportional

Get rid of victimless crimes and police can again become peace officers acting on behalf of those who have had their rights infringed upon. No officer has the right to act independently and surely doesn't have the right to use more force than was used against another or themselves in bringing someone into custody. If there is going to be a +1 for punishment as a means to deter future action that is to be done with consent of the victim through the courts.

you don't understand the 1+ principle....when it comes to levels of force encountered by an officer, they can go one step above the resistance they are encountering. If a person is passively resisting, police officers can then go to soft empty hand techniques, if they are actively resisting (what was happening in this video by the person refusing to give up his arm) a police officer can go to hard empty hand techniques - which was done in order to gain compliance.

You don't understand that I'm not concerned with what powers have been given to the police. What is legal is not important. I'm concerned with what's a legitimate social action. Punching an older man in the face who's intoxicated and unresponsive to said punches is not appropriate behavior. Especially that last one. They could have easily overpowered the man. Legitimate force is defensive, proportional to the aggression and/or only that which is required to safeguard yourself.

Let me try and understand this idea...? There are 2 guys that have been trained thoroughly is arrest, both carry guns and confront an older suspect but beat him like thugs would rob a person? Police officers are legal THUGS! Badges are clearly visible and therefore, all of their testimony is invalid. Guilty for assault and battery with a jail sentence that is equal to that of one of us (not cops) can be the only outcome for the scum with a badge!

Umm, according to the official report, they claim that the man punched an officer and ripped off his badge. But you can clearly see in the video that BOTH cops still have their badges on. These guys are lying thru their teeth. An investigation?? Are you kidding me? Its right there in plain view on the screen what they're doing. And they didn't collect a witness report because anyone who saw it start would tell you these cops just beat up on someone who didn't resist. Disgusting

maybe he hit the cop, but come on , the officer should know better than continue to beat this guy, The cheif cannot be saying that the officer may have done the right thing by continueing to beat him. What dose the 8 or so minutes have to do with this. the officer is supposed to be professional. The key word here is continue.

I hate the abuse of authority by these officers, i am shocked about the physical abuse and brutality. i hope these negligent officers are put to justice through this investigation. It's obvious that there is an apparent cover up. The officers are clearly wearing their badge in the video and are visible but the chief claims that it was ripped off during the altercation with the alleged suspect. I hope this video brings light to the corruption in the penal system.

Dave Grossman's article on Sheep, Sheepdogs, and Wolves......I know you don't like what you saw but the fact is the man was resisting two officers and they could not get ahold of him, when they had one arm, how do they know his other arm isnt going for a gun....but I'm sure you guys would be responding the same way if the homeless man pulled out a gun and killed the two officers...sheep

Umm google homeless kills cop and see what you get in results. A bunch of articles about cops killing the homeless. In 2006, 50% of cop fatalities were caused by traffic accidents not homeless. When I see a police officer approaching, frankly I'm a bit afraid. I'm as straight as they come but that doesn't prevent me from being harassed often. Is fear the dynamic we want to create?

the shepard is the person that appointed the sheepdog...and digits420 you are right a vast majority of police officers are killed in traffic accidents...however that isn't the matter at hand, you all can dislike what i say but the fact of the matter is that police dont search out random people and pick on them, they look for people committing crimes or hurting the public and take action on that....who would you call if there was a drunk homeless man in your house? what if he resisted the police?

The issue at hand is that cop beating the homeless guy repeatedly in the face. How am I suppose to feel about cops after seeing that? Am I suppose to be proud? Am I to feel safe?
You can rationalize all you want about the chance of that happening but if I'm to encounter a cop that wants total domination what am I to do? Defend myself? I'd go to jail for a long long time. No I comply like the little sheep I am, right?

Im a Deputy Sheriff in OHIO and haikjan65 is right.. It is standard SOP to strike subjects in the face.. We are learing how to do it right now in Defensive Tactics, but this is way out of line.. I hope that man sues their asses... Makes us all look bad..
