I dare you to tell me Ali Farka Toure wasn't one of the greatest musicians of all time. If you're interested in this guy, start with his album called The Source. And, little dude, all music (all human thought) is derivative.
I dare you to tell me Ali Farka Toure wasn't one of the greatest musicians of all time. If you're interested in this guy, start with his album called The Source.
Ali Farka Toure's music is the most uninspiring and boring drivel ever "created". He is derivative and copies tired old tribal chants and claims it for his own. You people look at him like Germans used to look at Hitler. If you want authentic blues, go listen to the delta bluesmen of the deep south and/or Chicago bluesmen. Excuse me while I fucking wretch...
This guy really knows how to touch you soul and move your body! Not only one of the best in Africa, but in the whole world!!!! Love it love it love it!!!
I 'dicovered' the seemingly boundless brilliance of this man a few years back when woking with a client , a Touareg woman from Niamey. It was love at first listen, but unfotunately a post-mortem discovery. Does anyone know what his son has been doing lately?
du respect pour Ali meilleur guitariste africain pour moi, and tinariwen , vive le mali qui nous fait des serprises vive les artistes du sahara. vive les berberes du sahara, un peuples de blancs et de noirs opprimes par les colonisateurs.
It is sad that he did not get the notoriety that he deserved. It can be said that he is the one who made the music that bridged the gaps of all african music around the world
I was in D.C. some years ago on the mall for a festival of Saharan Culture. As i was walkin' the mall I noticed a small white tent with 3 or 4 people inside and 2 men with stringed instruments. One was obviously Tamashek and the other Ali! I sat there in amazement and watched them perform a beautiful traditional song. I was so mad that I'd left my "Niafunke" album at the hotel! This music lives forever along with the spirit of Mr. Toure
That thing, sought by generations of occidental musicians who used various hallucinogens to achieve a state of symbiosis with nature and strive to understand; those people are born with it. As Jordan says, we have lost it. It is much more ancient than EMI Records, though. It has to do with how we europeans are born in the beliefs of the original sin, incarnation, and Trinity; two milleniums of christians have slowly done their job.
heey thanks for sharing. any chance of uploading tinariwen clip from same fest? thats when i first saw those guys and can't stop listening to them as i have all their cds. would be nice to see that song again cheers
Thank you ever so much for posting this vid of one of the greatest humans this planet has ever known. Brother Ali, wherever you are, que Dios te proteja y nos ilumine a todos con tu sabios consejosy luz. Paz, peace. Daniel, andalusian guy living in Brighton, U.K.
There is something elemental and archetypal about the basic chords of the Blues/Malian music that comes from the centre of the soul. Us Industrialised Robots have lost it because ofthe huge amount of head music we've produced. nice to be reminded of the centre of the soul.
@DavidMJordan Oh, bullshit. Industrialized robots? Speak for yourself, asshole. There's plenty of "soul" in any kind of music. Stop with the masochist bullshit.
@712dal Indeed? Well, why don't you explain instead of reverting to the ad hominem? I consider it a personal victory if all you're going to do is call me names. Now get on with it or shut your fucking trap, pussy.
I call you names because you are so "deserving" of it, asshole. I consider it a victory that so many of your comments are hidden due to them receiving "too many negative votes".
@712dal My comments are hidden because of YouTube policy and political correctness, not due to their factual basis. If people don't like what you're writing, your comments can be hidden - a clear policy that unpopular/opposing views will not be seen. This is a travesty and directly opposes the concept of free speech - something that people such as yourself do not understand. Evidently, you and many others need a civics lesson. My comments on AFT are correct - the evidence is there for you to see
@712dal More ad hominem bullshit. Well, the "rest of the world" - and you - can eat shit. I'll not fuck off. And the only gaping asshole here is your mouth. Go home and brush your tooth...
@712dal For instance, my comment two months ago on the quality of AFT's music was: "I would classify it as boring. Good to use as a sleep aid. Wake me when it's over....ZZzzzzzzz...". This comment was hidden because of too many negative "votes". How is this a "victory"? You guys can't take criticism of your hero no matter the subject. And his racism deserves massive criticism, especially amongst those who do not understand or believe it - even though it is plain to see.
helo my fellow lovers of Malian blues i have been searching for Malian guitar tutors in London in vain for almost two years. can someone help me please? I leave in Brixton south east london.
Great musician, sadly missed. Anyone know anything about the Festival in the Desert? I´d love to go one year but no-one here in Spain seems to publicise it.
Puedes leer sobre el festival en Wikipedia...es en Mali en Enero...esa es le realidad en nuestra Espana querida! se nos escapan muchas cosas que estan ocurriendo en el resto del mundo!
I believe the Festival in the Desert is largely for the people of Mali and there are limits to the number of foreigners allowed to attend. There are tour group operators that you can hook up with.
You can try the next "Festival Panafricain", in Algiers. This is a long forgotten Fabulous Tradition started in the sixties. A real tribute to African music and folklore in a very popular atmosphere. If the ambiance we witnessed in the sixties is recreated it will be a trip.
Even though I have most of his Albums, I still would like to see this legendary's vedeos to be posted. This is my man even though I don't understand his language. I like the way he plays his gitar.
