Fuckin' stupid. Why the fuck are they seizing the engines with that shite? Why don't they let them be and crush them like that? And why aren't they stripping the cars for parts? Keeping used parts available to the public is a way better way of recycling them. It does not involve any kind of effort and energy usage.
You can simply strip the cars down for the small, re-usable parts and melt down just the shells or other parts that are not salvageable.

This is such a waste. Think of the money people could make if they were employed to take these cars apart for parts for resale. Here, everything just goes to waste as it is and people can't get a replacement headlight for their car in a 20-mile radius unless they want to pay $200 at a dealer's.... It really hurts that this Cadillac ElDorado is going to be junked. It surely runs prefectly. But its MPG is too low. This long row of cars reminds me of a German junkyard with only newer cars. I love you morons talking about how we should reuse these cars. We are, we are grinding them up for scrap metal and selling that metal to China. Gets them off the road and gets us some $ as we are very broke and really need it. Running 2 wars for almost 10 years will do that to a country.
BaranTheBad, you clearly misunderstand the intent of this program. The bulk of the value of these vehicles was the "added value" of their working condition. C4C REQUIRES that the vehicles be drivable and newer than 21 years old. There's more metal in older cars. Broken-down wrecks have value much closer to their scrap value. Do you understand now how ignorant your statement was and how wasteful this program is?
The intent first and foremost was to get working older cars that had higher gas mileage off the road.
It had the added side effect of stimulating the economy and producing lots of scrap metal. If we would have given these cars to low income people the main point of getting them off the road for good would have been negated. hence the reason for them needing to be crunched for scrap.
So let's take it from here: You want people to drive higher mpg cars but people didn't want to buy them back when these lower mpg cars were made--otherwise they wouldn't exist. That angers you so this is a kind of temper tantrum you liberals are having?
This is a kind of riot you're staging? The kind of thing Community Organizers used to have to riot to do? In the old days, burning cars in the streets by the dozen or so illegally? Now that you've acquired direct access to the Federal Treasury and the Justice Department, you're burning cars legally by the hundreds of thousands? I agree with you, BaranTheBad. From the standpoint of a military intelligence operation taken against the American people, C4C worked flawlessly. What remains to be seen now is if the American people will recover from this attack made by the Obama administration, and how they will respond. We live in interesting times, folks.

Helping the economy was not really the goal of CFC. The goal was to get rid of cars that had less than 18MPG and to that end it worked flawlessly.

Never mind the waste of good re-condition able autos, what about People trading in for imports.
Wasn't the idea here to kind of help the U.S. economy? I realize Foreign auto makers have plants here but, the profit still ends up over seas.
How about the government helping the U.S. instead of everybody else.

This is such a waste. Think of the money people could make if they were employed to take these cars apart for parts for resale. Here, everything just goes to waste as it is and people can't get a replacement headlight for their car in a 20-mile radius unless they want to pay $200 at a dealer's.... Another wasteful way of solving a problem in this country.

It is a complete waste. My husband and I are barely making it since I lost my job and his car is falling apart.. I could have really used a car like that but we can afford to buy one... it was making me cringe just watching them destroy that car.. =\

Another example of how Americans can be wasteful. I guarantee that these "clunkers" will somehow make it overseas, rather than crushed. I hope the new auto owners do not default on the loans, hopefully they really qualified for the loans in the first place, unlike many of the "home owners" who didn't qualify for the home loans that they received, which got us into this economic mess in the first place!!

It really hurts that this Cadillac ElDorado is going to be junked. It surely runs prefectly. But its MPG is too low. This long row of cars reminds me of a German junkyard with only newer cars. CFC is a derivate program of the German Abwrackpraemie. All two actions aim to curb up the economy and to damage the people. Thanks Merkel and Obama.

I love you morons talking about how we should reuse these cars. We are, we are grinding them up for scrap metal and selling that metal to China. Gets them off the road and gets us some $ as we are very broke and really need it. Running 2 wars for almost 10 years will do that to a country.

BaranTheBad, you clearly misunderstand the intent of this program. The bulk of the value of these vehicles was the "added value" of their working condition. C4C REQUIRES that the vehicles be drivable and newer than 21 years old. There's more metal in older cars. Broken-down wrecks have value much closer to their scrap value. Do you understand now how ignorant your statement was and how wasteful this program is?

The intent first and foremost was to get working older cars that had higher gas mileage off the road.
It had the added side effect of stimulating the economy and producing lots of scrap metal. If we would have given these cars to low income people the main point of getting them off the road for good would have been negated. hence the reason for them needing to be crunched for scrap.
