The Iraq war was a failure on our part because it was not really a "war." The last war we fought was World War 2, where the entire country was involved in ending the conflict, not relying on ONE man to simply pull out before the job was done. In World War 2, we overpowered the enemy, until they surrendered, instead of matching their forces and giving them the equivalent of a slap on the hand. In World War 2, we could interrogate captured enemies freely, without having colonels court marshaled!!

I often laugh hysterically when I realize the US declared war on a CONCEPT: Terror. It's so ridiculous. What's next? The war on hatred? The war on jealousy? Hahaha! Once people realize how funny "The War on Terror" really is, I'm sure it'll end. Also, if you really want to defeat Terror, you can't do it by freaking the shit out of people in the middle east with bombs and guns. So on top of it being ridiculously funny, it is also largely unsuccessful in it's objective. The US failed.

In fact the U.S. aided the Taliban's rise to power in Afghanistan while they supplied them with arms in their war against the Soviets. They also supplied Saddam with arms during the Iran-Iraq war.

getting involved in the Middle East was one of the biggest mistakes in U.S policy. Now I don't mind Israel, got a bunch of friends from there. But it really looks like a nasty burden for every American over here to be guaranteeing their safety, and a burden on the free market to protect oil interests.
Were the free market system to be active in America, companies that found oil here or developed newer fuels would survive. Those that didn't would perish.
