I think Axl doesn't change the name of the band because Guns n' Roses made his dreams come true and he's afraid of letting that go. He's afraid to move on like the others did... I don't think the band can be Guns n' Roses anymore without Axl, but the same goes for Axl without the rest of the band. Velvet Revolver and Guns n' Roses just can't be the same thing

Slash is a phenomenal guitarist... But you're right there are better ones out there for sure! But I think people like what he represents... His character resembles his music. Which is sleezy, dirty and drunk. That's why I like him so much. He is a figure in rock that nobody can match because he has been through highest of high's and lowest of lows and yet still comes out with great music. May not be the best for everyone... But all in all... Enjoyable!
