  • A whimsical, yet melancholy, look at a small niche of American life...the art student on the brink of...?, that provokes the viewer into wondering what other tiny dramas are playing out around us. Thoreau tells us that "the mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation," and as the crucified Christ looks down on these festivities, one senses futures as disquieting as they could be hopeful.

  • The Academy has more than doubled its tuition in seven years. Borrowing or spending 80,000 to sell 8,000 worth of paintings at the ASE with no mathematical or basic writing skills is a good way to start an art career hobbled, not helped. It's especially chilling to hear students consider attending the 28K per year grad program "to defer paying back loans" because with the certificate they can't go anywhere else.

  • Lovely

  • John, this film is definitely in the realm of the best and most wonderful!

  • Great video!

  • Wonderful, wonderful movie. Very possibly your best movie yet. A great mix of reportage, good natured interviewing that elicited the best from your subjects, and just a wonderful humor and good nature and compassion for the students who may have not won this year but in no way are barred from being winners in the long run! Superb!
