  • NOOOOOOO WHAT ABOUT BIGGIE AND JAY Z

  • mos def would make my top 3 mc's list..... OF ALL TIME.

  • nas is a genius, i mean he used to study dictionaries and medical books, and channeled his knowledge into lyrics. He was also so caring for his mother :-)

  • Jungle "Word"

  • Nas is too grimmy styll, i love blazing it up to intellectual hip hop

  • @ 6:20 whats the song called ??

  • @flykidfromnj Talib Kweli "The Blast"

  • 3:23 what is the name of that song?

  • 9:20 "Rappers talking about moving things with your mind, try to move your mom out the projects with your rhymes" -- Immortal Technique

  • whats the song called at 8:45 cmon hip hoppers

  • 3rd bass helped nas get famous:D huh didn't know that

  • Nas is dope but back in the 93,94,95 96.nobody was fucking with snoop dogg,dr dre & 2pac.But nas & AZ is only new york artist i fuck with & will always support 100%

  • im all about the west coast cuzz im from cali and shyt but i still bang illmatic and memroy lane is sick as fuck alot of the homiez feel nas and biggie over here

  • If heaven was a mile away...

  • Man I feel so tempted to get a taste of that street life it made many rappers stronger and most of the street niggas are niggas who read all these books I'm a rapper myself but I have a small voice cause I ain't come from the streets so I can't have power or make people pay attention. All the sudden I caught myself hanging with niggas from Cali and from their I'm seeing niggas slanging crack bitches getting flipped and niggas dying all these events make me only stronger...Nas is a great influence

  • if they were selling crack, how could $17 grand be a big deal??

  • @NAURIS707 thats the first thing I thought

  • @NAURIS707 u dont see that kind of money off of petty dope dealing, u just make enough money to eat.

  • name of background song 1:40??? sounds too familiar but forgot

  • @BigZ223

    Bad Girl by Usher

  • FUCKING BUFFER. FUCK.

  • Whats the beat at 8:44?

  • i just heard the song with the beat at 8:45 about a week ago listen to one of nas playlist

  • Nas took a year and a half to 3 years to make illmatic.. Its interesting to know thats what it took for him to make a classic Hip-Hop album.

  • @xXrickstarXx yeah I thought the same thing.

It took Nas 3 years to make Illmatic and Mobb Deep 2 years to make The Infamous... two of the greatest hip hop LPs of all time hands down. No wonder nothing has surpassed them since, people smash out records in a few weeks nowadays, and they say their work rate is harder.... loooool. Good thing comes to those who wait.

Big up all the Nas fans with their Illmatic 12" gathering dust, get it out, spark and philly and put it on! Now!

  • His first album at 17 years old which took about 1.5 years to make, is now in my opinion the greatest rap album to ever be made.

  • Nas is the hardest emcee to ever do it!!! he was calling all the haters out on (whoever disagreed with hip hop is dead) "money over bullshit" and they couldnt do shit!... i dont know what i'll do when Nas puts the mic down

  • Much respect to all the cats who show NAS love. The shit he is talkn about and the way he goes about is truly hip hop. There are a lot of wack MC's but he is most definitely not one of them. You have guys like soulja boy (girl) talkn bout they're hip hop and that's complete bullshit. NAS is one of the kings of rap who is 4 sure keepin it real. in my opinion he is the sole KING OF NEW YORK. That's jus how i feel..... im jus keepin it real!

  • at least people used to want to help way back. all these cocksuckkers in the industry now make me sick

  • if heven was a mile away?

  • ILLMATIC THE BEST HIP HOP ALBUM NO DOUBT!!

  • jeezy said nas wasnt a street nigga......WTF NAS IS THE EPITOME OF THE STREET. THE BOY OR SHOULD I SAY MAN IS FRM QUEENSBRIDGE , IF HE ISNT A STREEET NIGGA THEN I DONT KNOW WHAT TO SAY.

  • @kov11000 yea and den nas dissed jeezy den he put nas on his track jeezy kno nas is real he was jus mad

  • @wavyinc no doubt wavy.

  • @wavyinc no doubt wavy

  • hahah why is everyone saying lil wayne is the worst rapper.. at least he can flow, and has some decent punch lines. In my opinion... if we wanna talk about a truly terrible rapper... let's talk about soulja boy..

  • @swagonyouhoes 4 sure swag.....The wackest rapper of all time!

  • The song at 9:04 is Heaven - Nas

  • Wats that song on 6:18 ???

  • @BooBonic20x The Blast - Reflection Eternal (Talib Kweli & Hi-tek)

  • @Fdawg18 thanks man

  • nas, big L, biggie, big pun, lord finesse, kool g rap, the greatest in no order

  • WOW How did we go from a 17 year old artist like Nas to a 17 year old artist like Soulja Boy? BULLSHIT.

  • @cHriiSzbEe seriously soulja boy is a disgrace -_______- he's not even rapping about anything legit or intelligent, back in the 90's the motto pretty much was, "as long as your music is legit and has a message, then it's a hit." these days it's, "whatever producers/industry wants no matter if it has no meaning

  • hood rumors:if a girl hangs out with a guy and the crew in the hood they call them around the way girls who's been around mad niggas aka project ho's

  • what song is it 6:44?

  • always a white pimp in the middle

  • @baekho10 that "white pimp" was the only guy who gave him a chance. If it wasn't for him Nas would not be who he is today.

  • what are the beats at 8:45 and 9:04

  • WAT THA FUCK IS THE NAME OF THE BEAT AT 8:45 FOR THE MILLIONTH TIME!!!!

  • @srgntgutta32 if heaven was a mile away

  • @srgntgutta32 stop fucking crying like a bitch

  • @porn1978 shut the fuck up, prick talking hard behind the keyboard

  • @jackd12349 suck balls u keypad warrior!

  • @srgntgutta32 j dilla lalala

  • @creamy1231 its extremly close but not the same

  • @srgntgutta32 name of the song is If Heaven Was A Mile Away

  • @srgntgutta32 whats the song called

  • @srgntgutta32 wow, just as i saw this comment, i listened to this song that my good fellow nas follower sent me, and i heard the same beat

Dance -Nas i think its from gods son

  • @srgntgutta32 did you ever find out the beat? i still cant fkn find it

  • sales, sales, sales.

Sales don't reflect quality, prowess, and genius.

  • lol i walked like 2 miles to buy it was written for my sister and me on tape it felt like a long long walk i rember getting home and we rocked that tape like 3 times till moms was sick of it...thank you nas

  • look at that shit! nas is so real that his view of going mainstream is making a song with a legendary soul sista! Come on man he is the truth...

  • Word to self, avoid women named Carmen. The yearn for beastiality, Camels, or end up being porn stars lol just joking.

  • Nas is the best musician (in all senses) ever to live, and will always be. Jay-Z isnt a great mc at all. He definitely deserves respect for making so much money with his business but Nas deserves more for every aspect of his career and his wiseness and not selling his soul unlike Jay Z

  • I remember being 8 years old or so and seeing "If I ruled the world" every time I turned on MTV. Biggest record he ever had.

  • Nas is mah favorite rapper, Jay Electronica is close buht Nas is so inspiring and i can tell how much he influenced mah flow. he made iht out of the hood with streetsmarts and powerfull lyrics, and he took his family with him. thats a real man. i respect Nas.

  • "it was written" is my favourite nas album, illmatic is still a classic though.

  • All nas albums are real

  • illmatic was only what like 10 tracks but nonstop pure gold

  • This is good. Where can I get a full length copy?

  • can someone please actually answer all the people like me who want to know what the beat is from at 8:45

    8:45 PLEASE

  • whats the song at 3:49?

  • @3therock3 the beggining of i can

  • all rappers first album are good, ILMATIC!!

  • somebody please tell me the name of the beat at 8:44 that shit is so hip hop!

  • AZ!!!!!!!!

  • illmatic hit our streets hard!!! we stopped just like ny. CT gives respect to NY, one love. it wasn't nice at all on the streets, trust.

  • And Illmatic winded up being the best hip hop album ever :-)

  • from what is the beat at 8:53

  • Back To the Grill Again Lol

  • NAS's 1st LP claasic

  • 1. Nas/Big L

    2.Wu Tang/Eric B and Rakim

  • @dinoman6 GangStarr?

  • @dinoman6 nas, BigL, And Wu are all sick but you cant say whos the best mcs are too much grimmy mcs

  • Illmatic is the best album of all time

  • illmatic was mos def a classis but imo it was written was his best album and nastradamus is my no.2

  • 4:10 I thought it was his mom talking

  • Comment removed

  • @gmck23sam he wass 18 when illmatic dropped.

  • Comment removed

  • Ahh right, musta got it mixed up then. And yeah i definately will enjoy the music, what an artist. Myself being just 18 and all the other youngsters who LOVE hip hop, this is the type of music to be influenced by, not soulja boy gucci mane and waka flocka.

  • @gmck23sam well i have to disagree with you a little. To say it stands alone is a bit of an over exageration,Biggies ready to die album was one of the greatest and best sellin albums in hip hop history.Jay-z's album Hard Knock was revolutionary,it changed the game and the projects. No doubt illmatic was amazing but their are albums that stand with it

  • @gmck23sam technically he made 'halftime' when he was 17 and illmatic released at 19

  • @gmck23sam He wasn't 17 when Illmatic came out. It was recorded mainly in 1993 when Nas was 20, and it was released in April of 1994.

  • @gmck23sam but still nas doesn't have any success today its such a shame

  • @IamLegendTV22 nas has lots of success, and no one will give him his props and realize how great he is until he is gone from this earth just like pac and big,

  • @IamLegendTV22 what?????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @sunofman2008 yeah kids just say weezy is best

  • @IamLegendTV22 he has much success, 11 albums all have went platinum or more except 3, he's still getting major features, collabs, hes been in 3 movies i know of, tv shows, its just about what you see as success....money wise dude is paid by way of his investments and endorsements.

  • @gmck23sam AMEN!

  • @gmck23sam

    READY TO DIE WAS SICK.....

  • @gmck23sam I agree, best album ever released

  • @gmck23sam Nas was born in 1973 and illmatic was released in 1994 so how does that equal 17? I know he was given the record deal at 17 but the album didn't release until he was 21

  • @wb1227 He was recording it when he was 17 and it was released April 19, 1994. You can't just record an album in a couple of days. He wanted it to be perfect ad it takes some years to perfect an album.

  • @lilhaloshooter I see what you saying but the way you wrote it was like you saying he completed it at 17. Either way it's one of if not the greatest rap album of all time.

  • Nas came into the rap scene at 17, he wrote Illmatic when he was about 19-20 years old. Do the math of him making the album and the year he was born.

  • Comment removed

  • @gmck23sam lol bro he didnt release that album till he was a around 20 something and he worked on it for 2 yrs so he didnt make those songs up at 17 yrs old that are on illmatic but he did make something a lil similar..but no lol not at 17yrs old that woulda been crazy. which the album still is #1 of course

  • 8:32-8:33 hopefully no 1 says hes in the illuminate, mason bullshyt

  • i hope that the guy who shot ill will fucking get raped

  • Love Illmatic, just a shame his later albums didn't match...

  • @unrealsteal Simply because no other rappers albums match it either, with the exception of Life After Death.

  • YOOOO!!!! What's that beat at 8:45????

  • them talking about him making a more mainstteam album with it was written he still kept his lyricism...how come rappers today cant have both? wwadays they either conscious rappers or mainstream pop artists

  • Nas still makes great Rap. From Illmatic to Distant Realitives. All real conscious raps.

  • nigga NO RAP ALBUM OUT THERE PAST OR PRESENT IS EVEN A 1000 MILES CLOSE TO ILLMATIC

  • what song at 1:31

  • @dabomb7887 Mc Serch - Back To The Grill (feat. Nas & Chubb Rock)

    /watch?v=5YzkYPsoh34

  • illmatic is da fuckin bomb, only went gold coz he was a nobody at the time and didnt promote hard by record label. most best rappers just didnt have the right team like canibus.

  • Damn! Nas is the man, Nobody gets five mics it's always four or four and a half.

  • selling 500 000 albums is still dope from living in qb to atleast a million dollars

  • Yo Headz, doe somebody know the name of the song played at 6:25 ? Sound very oldschool-type-legendary,,, hope someone can help me find this, peace

Btw: Great Documentary, enjoyed it 2 times ;)

  • Fuck yea! Soweto at :25...Heiro YALL

  • i wanna find a video or link that talks about true life stories that Nas has encountered, such as gang violence and what not? in his songs " The Message", "shootouts" and others he talks about stories that he say are true. does anyone know if these stories are all BS or what?

  • 8:28 Thumbs up for AZ

  • whats the song at 3:59?

  • @MikeFoiseyy How are you a fan of hip hop if you dont even know that?

  • @acc1216 sorry for my ignorance, but i just never got into nas that much. i usually only listen to hiphop beats, not on a lyrical status. i dont know if you're trying to be a wise guy by asking me that but i'd appreciate it if someone would answer my question to which song that was.

  • illmatic changed my life

  • @stonepown word life

  • man nas is better than wayne. end of story.

  • wats da songs at 3:40 and 8:34 any1 kno?

  • wats da song at 3:45 yo?

  • @KlassickNaptown its Get Down on the album Gods Son, that section there is a sample of James Brown's The Boss. One of one favorite songs by both Nas and James Brown. Hope this helped man

  • it took like 10 years for illmatic to go platinum that piece of shit the carter 3 did that in a week fuckin joke

  • @slickpulla07 yeah but did carter 3 get 5 mics on the source?

  • Comment removed

  • mc serch... whaaat!!! his look back in the day... maaan... im pissing my self here... so funny...

great he pushed Nas at one of the first ones...

  • his stuff needed to go commercial.

  • I would like to hear a Nas album produced by Kanye. that shit would sell a million in one week. it'll never happen though cause Jay-z would never let that happen. Nas should be at the top today but he's all about keeping it real.

  • @RyML1fe u know nas is better than jay- z so he not going promoted him. that would be suicide!

  • Man I would love to hear that demo tape

  • what is the name of the beat at 6:18?

  • @rg260339 THAT IS OFF THE FIRST TALIB KWELI AND HI TEK CD.

  • I would kill some motherfuckers if I made an album like Illmatic and it didn't go diamond.

  • what song does he say that in when i was 12 i went to hell for snuffin jesus

  • @ttoasterr

a song by Main Source called "Live at the Barbeque"

  • you know what nas, in order to sell records like biggy and puffy, snoop and dre, Get rid of that Fucken mole

  • was he 18? when he released illmatic O.o how did he write that?

  • @shotta0121 thats whats up you know fuck all theese mainstream artist!

  • 15 year old with Illmatic On Vinyl

  • from a man with a bachelors and working on a masters...school shit has to be kept in context. It aint where the real knowledge @....its jus the rank n file of this society...the caucasian education criteria. knowledge of self is the most vital....<---message to the Black Gods, princes, queens, princesses, etc whereever u @ in ur stage of development...

  • man everbody said nas aint no real seller but he made 9 studio solo albums and 7 were platinum ( 2 of the 7 multiplatinum) and 2 gold and that was because he signed to defjam where jay-z was the ceo and he had a beef with him so his fans thought that he was selling out

  • People may say that "It was written" was commercial, but I think it's one of the best Nas albums to date, AND a CLASSIC album.

  • @ms0487 yeah it is good but next to illmatic.

  • @ms0487a Dat was his second best album

  • @ms0487a I think it was better than Illmatic (conceptually)

  • @ms0487a eventually people realised that it was written was a classic, personally i dont see anything mainstream in songs like "i gave u power" "take it in blood" "the message" etc

  • @ms0487a true indeed. nothin commercial about that album...

  • @ms0487a

I'd largely agree...though it's a shame they didn't include the song "deja vu" on it, which lends credit to the "commercial album" argument.

  • @rstysmms I'm not sure if he could have...I mean, I remeber hearing the first verse of "deja vu" on Rae's first solo album, on that track, "Verbal Intercourse." But, you're right, I wish it could have been on one of his albums, because that song is "vintage" Nas.

  • @ms0487a True indeed...should've cut the first verse, I'm sure he had written some other ones to replace it anyhow! In any case, 1 Nas verse, in length alone, is equivalent to most complete rap songs today.
