nas is a genius, i mean he used to study dictionaries and medical books, and channeled his knowledge into lyrics. He was also so caring for his mother :-)
Nas is dope but back in the 93,94,95 96.nobody was fucking with snoop dogg,dr dre & 2pac.But nas & AZ is only new york artist i fuck with & will always support 100%
@Barhuumi yup.snoop dogg sold damn near 1 million records its first week, nas illmatic only sold 59,000 its first week.in 6 months snoop dogg doggy style sold 4 million, nas illmatic didnt even reach 100,000.nas one my favorites, but back then nobody,i mean nobody was fucking with snoop & dre.or 2pac,shit ice cube was selling a million records in one month to.the whole westcoast was winning by landslide
im all about the west coast cuzz im from cali and shyt but i still bang illmatic and memroy lane is sick as fuck alot of the homiez feel nas and biggie over here
Man I feel so tempted to get a taste of that street life it made many rappers stronger and most of the street niggas are niggas who read all these books I'm a rapper myself but I have a small voice cause I ain't come from the streets so I can't have power or make people pay attention. All the sudden I caught myself hanging with niggas from Cali and from their I'm seeing niggas slanging crack bitches getting flipped and niggas dying all these events make me only stronger...Nas is a great influence
It took Nas 3 years to make Illmatic and Mobb Deep 2 years to make The Infamous... two of the greatest hip hop LPs of all time hands down. No wonder nothing has surpassed them since, people smash out records in a few weeks nowadays, and they say their work rate is harder.... loooool. Good thing comes to those who wait.

Much respect to all the cats who show NAS love. The shit he is talkn about and the way he goes about is truly hip hop. There are a lot of wack MC's but he is most definitely not one of them. You have guys like soulja boy (girl) talkn bout they're hip hop and that's complete bullshit. NAS is one of the kings of rap who is 4 sure keepin it real. in my opinion he is the sole KING OF NEW YORK. That's jus how i feel..... im jus keepin it real!

hahah why is everyone saying lil wayne is the worst rapper.. at least he can flow, and has some decent punch lines. In my opinion... if we wanna talk about a truly terrible rapper... let's talk about soulja boy..
@cHriiSzbEe seriously soulja boy is a disgrace -_______- he's not even rapping about anything legit or intelligent, back in the 90's the motto pretty much was, "as long as your music is legit and has a message, then it's a hit." these days it's, "whatever producers/industry wants no matter if it has no meaning
lol i walked like 2 miles to buy it was written for my sister and me on tape it felt like a long long walk i rember getting home and we rocked that tape like 3 times till moms was sick of it...thank you nas
Nas is the best musician (in all senses) ever to live, and will always be. Jay-Z isnt a great mc at all. He definitely deserves respect for making so much money with his business but Nas deserves more for every aspect of his career and his wiseness and not selling his soul unlike Jay Z

Ahh right, musta got it mixed up then. And yeah i definately will enjoy the music, what an artist. Myself being just 18 and all the other youngsters who LOVE hip hop, this is the type of music to be influenced by, not soulja boy gucci mane and waka flocka.
@gmck23sam well i have to disagree with you a little. To say it stands alone is a bit of an over exageration,Biggies ready to die album was one of the greatest and best sellin albums in hip hop history.Jay-z's album Hard Knock was revolutionary,it changed the game and the projects. No doubt illmatic was amazing but their are albums that stand with it
@IamLegendTV22 nas has lots of success, and no one will give him his props and realize how great he is until he is gone from this earth just like pac and big,
@IamLegendTV22 he has much success, 11 albums all have went platinum or more except 3, he's still getting major features, collabs, hes been in 3 movies i know of, tv shows, its just about what you see as success....money wise dude is paid by way of his investments and endorsements.
@gmck23sam Nas was born in 1973 and illmatic was released in 1994 so how does that equal 17? I know he was given the record deal at 17 but the album didn't release until he was 21
@wb1227 He was recording it when he was 17 and it was released April 19, 1994. You can't just record an album in a couple of days. He wanted it to be perfect ad it takes some years to perfect an album.
@lilhaloshooter I see what you saying but the way you wrote it was like you saying he completed it at 17. Either way it's one of if not the greatest rap album of all time.

i wanna find a video or link that talks about true life stories that Nas has encountered, such as gang violence and what not? in his songs " The Message", "shootouts" and others he talks about stories that he say are true. does anyone know if these stories are all BS or what?
@acc1216 sorry for my ignorance, but i just never got into nas that much. i usually only listen to hiphop beats, not on a lyrical status. i dont know if you're trying to be a wise guy by asking me that but i'd appreciate it if someone would answer my question to which song that was.
@KlassickNaptown its Get Down on the album Gods Son, that section there is a sample of James Brown's The Boss. One of one favorite songs by both Nas and James Brown. Hope this helped man
I would like to hear a Nas album produced by Kanye. that shit would sell a million in one week. it'll never happen though cause Jay-z would never let that happen. Nas should be at the top today but he's all about keeping it real.
from a man with a bachelors and working on a masters...school shit has to be kept in context. It aint where the real knowledge @....its jus the rank n file of this society...the caucasian education criteria. knowledge of self is the most vital....<---message to the Black Gods, princes, queens, princesses, etc whereever u @ in ur stage of development...
man everbody said nas aint no real seller but he made 9 studio solo albums and 7 were platinum ( 2 of the 7 multiplatinum) and 2 gold and that was because he signed to defjam where jay-z was the ceo and he had a beef with him so his fans thought that he was selling out
@ms0487a eventually people realised that it was written was a classic, personally i dont see anything mainstream in songs like "i gave u power" "take it in blood" "the message" etc
@rstysmms I'm not sure if he could have...I mean, I remeber hearing the first verse of "deja vu" on Rae's first solo album, on that track, "Verbal Intercourse." But, you're right, I wish it could have been on one of his albums, because that song is "vintage" Nas.
@ms0487a True indeed...should've cut the first verse, I'm sure he had written some other ones to replace it anyhow! In any case, 1 Nas verse, in length alone, is equivalent to most complete rap songs today.

I would like to hear a Nas album produced by Kanye. that shit would sell a million in one week. it'll never happen though cause Jay-z would never let that happen. Nas should be at the top today but he's all about keeping it real.

@RyML1fe u know nas is better than jay- z so he not going promoted him. that would be suicide!

man everbody said nas aint no real seller but he made 9 studio solo albums and 7 were platinum ( 2 of the 7 multiplatinum) and 2 gold and that was because he signed to defjam where jay-z was the ceo and he had a beef with him so his fans thought that he was selling out

People may say that "It was written" was commercial, but I think it's one of the best Nas albums to date, AND a CLASSIC album.

@ms0487 yeah it is good but next to illmatic.
RakimFiend 11 months ago
@ms0487a Dat was his second best album
lilzack24 11 months ago
@ms0487a I think it was better than Illmatic (conceptually)
Kawuma1982 7 months ago
@ms0487a eventually people realised that it was written was a classic, personally i dont see anything mainstream in songs like "i gave u power" "take it in blood" "the message" etc
EseOtobreezy 7 months ago
@ms0487a true indeed. nothin commercial about that album...

@ms0487a
I'd largely agree...though it's a shame they didn't include the song "deja vu" on it, which lends credit to the "commercial album" argument.
rstysmms 6 months ago
@rstysmms I'm not sure if he could have...I mean, I remeber hearing the first verse of "deja vu" on Rae's first solo album, on that track, "Verbal Intercourse." But, you're right, I wish it could have been on one of his albums, because that song is "vintage" Nas.
ms0487a 5 months ago
@ms0487a True indeed...should've cut the first verse, I'm sure he had written some other ones to replace it anyhow! In any case, 1 Nas verse, in length alone, is equivalent to most complete rap songs today.
