I grew up around a lesbian couple all the time. They were my parents' best friends, and I don't recall ever questioning it. They were like a second set of parents. My parents never had to explain anything to me. I just sort of knew that they loved each other.

My parents tried to explain to me once that they were gay and what that meant, but their love for each other was always so natural there was no need.

Like how its explained to him, people worry so much about explaining this stuff to their kids, but we already have the right words, because to a kid a husband's a husband and a wife's a wife. People vastly overestimate 'love'. Passionate love rarely lasts longer than a year. Marriage is for a man and woman. It's hard to be arrogant when you're up at 4 in the morning and changing your baby's nappy. That's the whole idea. That's how maturity is attained. Men and women aren't supposed to understand each other; that's the beauty of straight relationships. Through the innate tension they rise above themselves and become parents. A child needs a male father and a female mother. Simple as.

It just goes to show that kids can deal with same-sex couples. Its the bias of the parents that causes them to think kids shouldn't know anything about LGBT couples until they are older, at which point they have been programmed with plenty of bias themselves.
