You're right. Most artists do the same. I heard that GM is an especially fussy perfectionist (that he does WAY more recordings than most), but boy does it show in the end result.

Would love to hear the recordings he did which he ultimately chose not to use on his albums. My understanding is that he's a perfectionist who does tons of recordings and then pastes the best of them into his final recording.

Don't most people do this?  Its not like anyone makes one attempt and slops it on the album. Well, I take that back.

What sets George apart from other singers is that his "perfectionism" is not a crutch. His live performances are STELLAR--his voice is just as good outside the studio. Most performers today are mediocre and are produced within an inch of their lives because they'd sound like shit otherwise. And their live performances suck because they only sound good in highly controlled environments. George's voice is *fantastic* under any circumstances.

I totally agree. Most "artists" are so produced...their live shows, they sounds as bad as I would...that is to say, they sound like crap. So few examples of artists who actually have good voices...and GM is one of those few.
