Corbenik is right. Player 2, who would occupy the right side of the screen, isn't present. That's why there aren't any arrows scrolling on that side.

The arrows are scrolling on the left side of the screen, which is the Player 1 side. That player IS present, hence the arrows and the fact it doesn't say "Not Present" near the bottom of the screen on that side. If you look closely, you'll see it says something like SMOar!, or some other ridiculous thing. That's what I named my SM profile.
