  • It is nice to see the Native Tahitians working to preserve their Unique culture.

  • @ThoriumRex most of these girls are not Tahitian, this is in Hawai'i, but race or nationality doesn't matter, as long as they respect the culture, being humble, and love what they do, and do so by dancing, and preserving this beautiful culture!

  • this is absolutely beautiful dancing...these ladies are amazing!

  • Why does an ass shaking contest have

    Men in it....?

  • @ButtaNToast it's not a ass shaking contest. this is a traditional dance from the islands of tahiti or french polynesia. it's a way of keeping in tact with the culture, and keeping it alive they have various competitions all over through out the year. it's a lot more work, stregnth, muscle, and confidence to get one stage to do this.

  • @ButtaNToast

If you would LISTEN! you would know! The dance itself is an cultural exercise for strength and power. Muscles can form and shape greatly through dancing this type of dance.

  • عشقت الرقص

  • Tahitian girls are beautiful

  • muy bellas danzantes llenas de glamour

  • She is a beautiful dancer. Keep up the good work!

  • Wow, you would have to be in good shape for this. I looks like a cross between ballet, aerobics, gymnastics, and yoga.

You covered a lot here, nice video.

    Ray

  • ooh, really? I thought it was the other way around, like traditional, feet always flat on the ground and modern, up on the toes=)

  • Hmmn...I know a veteran whose sister has won every solo at Heiva I Tahiti, and he's curently living in France, directing his own group, and he said it was the other way around...I guess Tahitian dancers in Tahiti does it diffrently than those in the states...

  • @dondonakafatkidd - Actually it's thee other way around. I should know, I am a Tahitian that dances.

  • @UkuleleBabe I wrote that a lOng time ago I almost didin't know what we were talking about when I re-read it.. Lol but I think when I was saying traditional I was thinking more tahito style dancing..and modern like how we do traditional now..you know what I mean?I've seen lots of modern performance... modern can be as modern as your creativity desires, it's all out of love and respect for the culture! thanks for bringing that back up:)

  • @dondonakafatkidd - haha, cool. Is that u singing in the video on ure pg? Talented! Keep singing!

  • @UkuleleBabe yea that is lol hella old videos. i've been wanting to post another one, but im tryna step my ukulele skills up!

  • 3:27 was the BEST! haha;

  • you need culture darlin, please reed and know the culture. blesses

  • lol

  • you mean hip movements, NOT ass shaking. It may look like it is the ass, but it's the hips and the speed of your feet that makes the ''shake''=)

  • the lil boy did it cute but it kinda scaredme too

  • Island guuurl... treat 'em like a queennn

  • your very good. I do some tahitian dancing and I'm black lol. But I'm a beginner , this video was helpful

  • she is amazing! what fantastic movements...

  • Wow, those little boys are truly amazing...

  • Go Evlyn! I love DA ISLAND WAY!

  • damn she is gorgeous

  • Cook Isalnd girls do it better

    trust me

  • yes, i agree...they do it better...BUT they cant "cook!"...lol

  • Stop hating! No one is better than the other one. It's to different dancestyles, and you can't compare them, and say the other one sucks and the other is better. it's disrespectfull, not only towards the culture and the islands, but towards the dancers who loves their culture, or who admires some one elses and shows their respect, and love for it by dancing!

  • @Gille87 There are low lives everywhere who just can't understand your message of wisdom and peace. Culture, respect, admiration... What's that? they'll say!!!

  • @TheJimMalaya yea that's the problem of todays young people, they don't give a shitt, but for having a greater understanding of the future they gotta know, and respect the past!

  • I say it depends.

Just like anybody of Hawaiian blood can't do Hula.

  • very informative interview and demonstration..lol..

  • iiiiiiiaaaaa :p:p:p

  • and i thought belly dancing was amazing

  • hahahahhahaa the boy is so funny

  • Great video!

I liked the interviews and explanations of the movements.

  • Cute little boys, they so brave to just go and dance in front of so many people!!!

  • The movement side to side is a tairi tamau and not a tairi toma !!! Sorry for my english

  • Very fascinating! I love that the dancers were interviewed as well! How blessed and gifted they are to have dance in their lives!

  • an otamu is a box movement with your hips. not side to side. thats a tairi toma.

  • @4rmKAUAI - A box is called and 'afata

  • that is my teacher from dA ISLAND WAY!

  • Does anyone know of any good instructional dvds for this type of dance? I would love to learn it, but there aren't any classes offered nearby.

  • if u find one let me know!

  • This was great!

  • men are as good as the ladies ! I too find dancing makes me happy!!!
