man not to sound tough but if a cougar walk up to my kid id block its path even if id loose lets face it it wont matter if you fight it or not it will go after the kid if hungry enough or just aggressive but hey there beautiful animals
It seems like we are trying to turn our national parks into Jarrasik Park. We need to begin hunting these animals so that their population does not over run ours. How many people have to be killed or injured before the (so called activists) begin to understand. I do not and will not enter a wild area without a firearm for protection. Maybe the activists feel like offering themselves for food but I don't.
Dude. We have killed more of "them" then they have of us 10 fold. I am a deer hunter but I love and respect cougars, wolves, bears ext.... We move into their areas and bother them. If there is not enough room for them, there is not enough room for us. We like to think that we are on top of the food chain, but sometimes we need a reminder how weak we really are, despite our brains and guns. Frankly as a female hunter I fear a stupid man over a cougar any day. Especially the Drunks.
That's the key.....DON'T get scared. That is a prey response. You can hold a cougar at bay by being calm, but resolute, periodically looking behind your back when when in the woods, and generally keeping you wits about you. On lady survived a cougar attack by being calm, despite the fact that animal was on he back eating her backpack. She managed to turn around, face the cougar, and talked in a calm soothing voice. The puma calmly sat on her for 1/2 an hour till rescue came.
Here Here. Keep guns in law abiding citizens..don't take them away!
But as a lady hunter I shoot it I eat it. I only eat wild herbivores, not carnivores (yuck). But the only exception to this rule is if it is horribly injured, or rabid.
Frankly I fear the crazy drunk male hunter of a wild cougar any day. We humans sometimes prioritize our fears IMHO. Wild animals do not rape, torture, and hold you for ransom. Men do. I rather be attacked by a cougar then a rapist any day!
@equarg Obviously your smarter than a lot of male hunters I know. They kill just to kill.Nature put hundereds of hooved species and birds on this planet to be used as food, fur, weapons from bones, ect. But there are just a handful of predators to keep nature in balance.I too am a hunter but I absolutely refuse to hunt Bear, coyotes, big cats, ect. Seems to me only humans like to kill for other reasons than to obtain food. You have my deepest respect.
Wow....cool...another sane hunter! Thank you. My motto is I shoot it I eat it. I don't eat coyotes, bear, wolves, cats ext too...so I don't shoot them!
I quit the Wild life council because they were all screaming how the wolves were so dangerous...it made me sick. Plus their motto was SSS= Shoot Shovel and Shut up. Cowards.
Err.. the cougar had rabies......they do not have any fear with rabies. They just keep coming. Either you kill it or it bites you. Even though I love an respect cougars.. its one of two situation where I would shot it. (other being injured and dying from a car impact)
Yep. As a hunter I respect cougars, they were their first. Your in their turf when you go out and have fun in the woods. But especially with Rabies w/o the gun the kid and everyone else would of been in trouble. I will never hunt a cougar, wolf, bear, or bobcat/lynx for fun. I shot it I eat it. I only shoot 1 deer a year. I have seen a wild bear (got it's picture) and the other three are on my bucket list. That said. I will only shoot if it is obviously rabid.

Ok seriously, Cougar has kids head in mouth and the dude gives a warning shot. Screw that. SHOOT the cat. Even if you have to go up to it for a point blank shot. But a warning shot, come on.
It'd be stupid to try and fight a cougar. The kid did the right thing by staying still. Running or fighting back would only further aggravate the cat.
"Again, protecting your kid should be a parental instinct. " I agree 100% Mountain Lions go after prey smaller than them in most cases, people get in the mix when they are small, or easy targets for a starving or sick cat. Or just as a crime of oportunity.
Most Attacks on children were not deterred by numbers of people, but because they attacked the cat to protect the kid. Many Parents instinctivly pick of the child and put it on thier shoulders. The cat sees them as Much Bigger and leaves.
With all due respect I have to disagree with almost everything you have stated about cougars. You teach cougar survival?? Where in the heck do you live that people are needing classes to survive cougar attacks. I live in Oregon which has the second largest cougar pop in the states and we have NEVER had a cougar attack to date. Here they are deathly afraid of humans.
While I do agree they are rare, Its a Government requirement of Work Saftey in my area. If you work in Bear and Cougar country here you need a safty course on the Avoidance and methods of sucessfully Recognising dangerous situations with those animals.
One needs to remember these are WILD animals. In Rural Areas away from humans or a HUNGRY animal, reacts much differently than ones in more densly populated areas or where Food is readily available. That is the differance in our opinions.
Ah I understand. Just my opinion but here in Oregon it seems the animals that have given us problems are ones that are too used to and comfortable around humans.
Thats exactly right. The wonderful thing about these cats is they do remain somewhat warry and the attacks are segnifacantly less frequent than say a Black bear .
People in this place seem to be arguaing about weather attacks CAN happen, but my points were regarding apropriate actions WHEN they happen. One day We MIGHT see a Habituated Cougar in Oregon. Here is hoping it never hapens.
Also Many people forget that based on food sources and evelution, size can Vary.
Holy shit! I can't belive PETA isn't all over this and trying to get the parents of this kid arrested for have a kid in the woods prevoking the cat by having fun, teasing the cat by playing like food, and the uncle using a horrible "Gun" in the woods to shoot a helpless cat while trying to feed! Next thing you know Obama will push health care for those PETA members troubled by this video and Nancy Pelosi will put out a bill against kids in the woods acting like food!!
LOL sad part is how close to the truth some of that is. Heaven forbid LAWS go that far. Guns are a a sensible precaution, just not the ONLY one. I think the Government (USA and Canada) have already pushed gun control to its limits.
I teach Bear and Cougar encounter survival the dumbest stuff I hear about involves parents not watching kids or using common sence.
If a kid is crawling arround growling in the brush a cat sees 'Prey' they run.. it chases. Watching kids and small pets GOOD IDEA
"A mountain lion cannot kill a full grown man" OK that is completely wrong. You FIGHT BACK because the Mountain Lion will not just back off like a bear might. Simply put. It ends up being YOU or the CAT. Who ever dishes out the most damage wins in most circumstances. Victems have killed Cougars with...... a Dull Swiss army Knife, A Stick, and Crushing its head with a rock. " If I encountered one I would want to have a gun!" While a Good idea, guns provide a FALSE sence of security.
"False security" Yes thats right...... Your statement reafirms my comment. Many people who were killed or mauled by Cougars and Bears actually had Guns with them. Many accounts they were trying to shoot the animal and tripped or the animal made suprise attack they could not be prepared for. The majority of survivors said they had continued when they felt unsafe before the attack , or that they allowed the animal closer than they normaly would "Because I had my gun."
A mountain lion cannot kill a full grown man unless that man is a pussy who becomes submissive when attacked. If you get attacked by a cougar, you have to be aggressive and fight for your life. These cats don't want no problems with an aggressive human. I will kill a mountain lion with my bare hands. I will break its neck like a chicken.
Of course you will, idiot! Like a chicken you'll break its neck. Although I tend to doubt chickens' innate ability to break necks, I allow you know better. Why don't you go crack the oversized walnut growing on your neck.
Okay easy Tondar! the next time you run into one let us know how that goes for ya! The cat is as big as a normal man...except in your big, neck snapping, knucle dragging case, but for the rest of us normal upright walking folk I will stick to my gun! Because why....cats kill people without guns......Guns don't kill anything without people! but again excet for you Tondar of the woods
You wish! LOL! Dude, I'm speaking from experience. Disagree with me all you want but I've already walked the walk, brother. I've been attacked by a cougar and let me tell you something, they are overrated. If you protect your neck you have nothing to worry about. The one that got me ran off the second I landed a huge overhand right. I would have killed him but he slipped out of my head lock. He wanted no part of the Stressman.
So this old man just sits there and watches a mountain lion casually approach his little son and chomp down as his head? Let me tell you something, if I see a mountain lion strolling towards my kid, I'm going to be as protective of my young as a grizzly bear is of her cubs and that cougar is in big trouble. I'm not gonna run and go get my gun, I'm going to charge the cat so he has to get at me before he gets my kid! Jesus Christ, this father told the story like he was some excited spectator.
Until you are actually faced with that situation, I doubt you know what you would do. Cats are the most dangerous individual carnivore on earth. A rabid cat is more dangerous than even that. They are highly intelligent, more agile than any other predatory four legged animal, and have a an extremely strong chase instinct.
Trying to break a cougars neck with your bare hands would be like breaking a human hip with your bare hands, only there would be a lot of teeth. You are being unrealistic.
Dude, protecting your kid is something people do out of instinct. This father said what he saw and did absolutely nothing about it. He sat there with his thumb up his ass and waited for someone else to run to the car and get a gun! Are you kidding me? There's no time for that. YOUR SON IS BEING HUNTED BY A GOD DAMN MOUNTAIN LION....DO SOMETHING! I cant believe you're trying to justify his actions. Again, protecting your kid should be a parental instinct.
@jrtress91 Yeah, it should be. Instincts however do not always lead humans in the right direction. This is why we have developed a frontal lobe.
What the father should have done, who knows. But attacking a rabid cat is like sticking your hand in a garbage disposal. It would have been very sweet and everyone would have gone 'oo ah' at his funeral. But I am not sure that would have been any real consolation to anyone.
that video going over the bridge looks like Canyon Lake, AZ... a few yrs back there were sitings of mountain lions stalking kids walking to the bus stop in apache junction.
Wow I was at Apache Junction and I was hiking in the Superstitions many days & glad I did not run into one of these. I have heard if you carry a big stick and stand up to it. When hiking there was a cowboy with a gun walking in front of us when we got lost in brush he told us where the trail was. If I encountered one I would want to have a gun!
Wow that's really scary. When they showed the clips of mountain lions(that's what i call them) attacking deer, it reminded me of my kitty attacking her little mousie toy :). But of course, when a mountain lion attacks a deer, it's probably not cute haha
all these hippy mother f8ckers get on my nerves "...humans suck...animals rule... if u were a real champ u wouldn't use guns..." f8ck off you dumb sh*ts, humans are the dominate species cuz we developed bigger brains, brains that helped us make guns...if you love animals so much, put on a damn cougar costume, try to bite my family as i pump ur ass full of lead and laugh b8tch
HA...Seriously... I want to see you in hand to hand combat with a lion. You would be squealing like a pig for a gun once they take some of your flesh off. You dont understand the balance of nature. They were given strength and power; we were given reason to make up for it. You highly under estimate your animal friends about their brains. Funny you pretend to be there ally and then say animals are dumbshits and weak. You dont have the respect for them that you think you have. You Activist!!
@mythril4 I am a deer hunter but I love cougars and wolves. I have a lot of respect for them. If there is not enough room for them, there is not enough room for us. We go into the woods, go loose a few rungs on the food chain. Guns or not.
That said I will shoot (or stab) if obviously rabid or injured severely. As a woman I would take a cougar attack any day over a rape attack. Man is a predator that has something so other predator has. Malice.

Wow. You are a dipshit. Thank you for feeding the machine, retard. Let us all be thankful for brilliant psychics such as yourself who can prestidigitate the partisan political orientation and genetic code of an entire population by a single comment. Welcome to hell.
Again, as I posted to the last person, I'm sorry your side lost. Really. I know you're a real patriot, and love America more than terrorist sympathizers like myself. I hope you learn to stop being so emotional on youtube.
Again, you are a dipshit. Who did I vote for again? I wager your homophobic father's soiled boxers that you guessed wrong. Your mind... ][ that narrow. Get over yourself.
poor cougar? what about the boy? i love animals but if that was my boy i wudnt think twoce about killing him! i love my baby more then any animal! any parent out there wud say the same thing
Those of you who have not been confronted by a wild animal .... don't know how paralyzing it is.
As to the rabies .... I have been treated because I came int contact with a rabid cow. If you get rabies you are 100% going to die. They can not stop it once it takes hold of you. It damages your brain. You die a very slow, crazy death in the end aggressively attacking thous you love most .... because you don't know better. You have about 3 to 7 days to get treatment.

Jesus Christ, this father told the story like he was some excited spectator.
jrtress91 2 years ago 3
Until you are actually faced with that situation, I doubt you know what you would do. Cats are the most dangerous individual carnivore on earth. A rabid cat is more dangerous than even that. They are highly intelligent, more agile than any other predatory four legged animal, and have a an extremely strong chase instinct.
Trying to break a cougars neck with your bare hands would be like breaking a human hip with your bare hands, only there would be a lot of teeth. You are being unrealistic.
MrHobomatic 2 years ago
Dude, protecting your kid is something people do out of instinct. This father said what he saw and did absolutely nothing about it. He sat there with his thumb up his ass and waited for someone else to run to the car and get a gun! Are you kidding me? There's no time for that. YOUR SON IS BEING HUNTED BY A GOD DAMN MOUNTAIN LION....DO SOMETHING! I cant believe you're trying to justify his actions. Again, protecting your kid should be a parental instinct.
jrtress91 2 years ago
@jrtress91 Yeah, it should be. Instincts however do not always lead humans in the right direction. This is why we have developed a frontal lobe.
What the father should have done, who knows. But attacking a rabid cat is like sticking your hand in a garbage disposal. It would have been very sweet and everyone would have gone 'oo ah' at his funeral. But I am not sure that would have been any real consolation to anyone.

that video going over the bridge looks like Canyon Lake, AZ... a few yrs back there were sitings of mountain lions stalking kids walking to the bus stop in apache junction.
Dizdizno 2 years ago
Wow I was at Apache Junction and I was hiking in the Superstitions many days & glad I did not run into one of these. I have heard if you carry a big stick and stand up to it. When hiking there was a cowboy with a gun walking in front of us when we got lost in brush he told us where the trail was. If I encountered one I would want to have a gun!

Wow that's really scary. When they showed the clips of mountain lions(that's what i call them) attacking deer, it reminded me of my kitty attacking her little mousie toy :). But of course, when a mountain lion attacks a deer, it's probably not cute haha

all these hippy mother f8ckers get on my nerves "...humans suck...animals rule... if u were a real champ u wouldn't use guns..." f8ck off you dumb sh*ts, humans are the dominate species cuz we developed bigger brains, brains that helped us make guns...if you love animals so much, put on a damn cougar costume, try to bite my family as i pump ur ass full of lead and laugh b8tch
spartangreen08 2 years ago
Dude I know, its like its ok to kill an animal in self defence, I mean really. I dont think killing for sport is good, but defence yes.
ReinaEquina 2 years ago

Malice.

I love how in Australia, most of us say P"you"ma whereas the americans say it pooma!!
Anyway, animals rule, take away our guns and swords, and we'd die out.
