  • late landing

  • @MyPilot747 No it wasn't. ?! :@

  • @MyPilot747 Lol, That landing was fine... Ive seen planes touch down much later than that at Madeira, and still stop with plenty of runway left.

  • Its anasty airport to land at. What the video didnt show are the mountains to the north of the runway, causing rotors & turbulence on landing.

  • rough landing

  • A little high on approach?!

  • how come some a320s (like the one in this video) have different autopilot voices than others? does it depend on the year of construction? I've seen some videos of a320s where the autopilot voice sounds lot more "human" than here ; )

  • LOL The pilot is a..... 1:12 XD

  • @N4145D hey, have you landed on madeira recently? because 2 weeks ago i landed on rwy23 (there was no wind at all) and the plane didnt did that turn he does on your video ( to avoid the terrain i think).. i have landed several times there and i got kinda "scared" cause we were right above Caniçal village houses, he came just straight up from the sky and landed, you think they might added ILS in it ? thanks and nice video

  • how do you put airbus in reverse, like in a Boeing for example 737 they have reverse levers on the throttles in airbus a320 a330 a340 etc do they just continue to slide the throttles back pass idle

  • @mikalization Airbus also have reverse levers comparable to Boeing. The difference being that when they are pulled they unlock the thrust levers and allow them to slide passed idle to select reverse.

  • When piloting a plane are you not afraid of crashing or being hijacked? Does that thought ever lurk in the back of your head everytime you pilot a plane?

  • Pretty good landing! Does anyone know the airport code?

  • @bubufranks1 LPMA

  • thats a sick airport must be really hard to land at

  • @9gent yeah man one of the most extreme in the world

  • parachuting is a safer option for this airport

  • i had 3 aborted landings in this god forsaken strip

  • hi man does flight simulator x reflects the reality?

  • @MrDvirHamadbir fsx will teach you how to fly just as guitar hero will teach you to play a real guitar

  • @rockonmario nice one...my thoughts exactly

  • hi man does flight simulator x reflects the reality?

  • November4145Delta great video

  • i experienced a aborted landing(go around)on this rwy on TAP A319 with crosswind in last december, i could swear myself that the plane was heading to the taxi gates..and then he aborts right on middle.. after that he turns so roughly to the left that we thought we were going to faint lol and he did the same thing planes do on rwy 05, turns to the left again veryroughly to align and then lands.. i live in madeira and never seen or exp. something like that, landing in rwy23 by the way they do in 5

  • igualito que yo en el FSX XDDDDD pa tosssssss vosotrossssss

  • "unlike on Boeing aircraft for example, the thrust levers on Airbus aircraft do not move accordingly to the auto thrust settings. You have to bring them back to the idle setting manually, although the thrust is set to idle automatically."

First line OK. The rest is not. On Airbus like Boeing, you have to bring the A/T to idle just before touch down (even if A/T moves on Boeing), since the final is at least done at 50 to 55%N1 (spool up), you have to bring them back to idle on Boeing as well.

  • "they didn't have space enough to built the runway, so, they built one bridge" is it true??

  • Very nice Dude :)

  • actually retard means flare in french

  • Just to avoid people from potentially being confused or assuming the wrong thing: the "retard" callout is a reminder to bring the thrust levers to idle. It is not a reminder or advice to perform a flare as often wrongly assumed. This is because unlike on Boeing aircraft for example, the thrust levers on Airbus aircraft do not move accordingly to the auto thrust settings. You have to bring them back to the idle setting manually, although the thrust is set to idle automatically.

  • Actually the autothrust keeps speed during flare, it does not automatically go to idle for landing not even on an autoland.

So, retard... the first 3 calls it's a verb, then it's a noun.

  • To be precisely:

when the autpoilot is engaged and in "LAND" mode, the "RETARD" mode engages at 40 feet radio altitude end remains active until after touchdown. In this case the A/THR (Auto Thrust) commands idle during flare, and the FMA (Flight Mode Annunciator) and EWD (Engine Warning Display) displays "IDLE". At 10 feet radio altitude the retard callout is generated.

For manual landings the retard callout is generated at 20 feet radio altitude and the pilot has to command idle manually.

  • @N4145D

if your actually havent set flight idle by the time your hear retard your a bit damn late for it!

  • @N4145D Just a reminder ;) - During Autoland, The A/THR commands idle during FLARE mode (you can see THR IDLE on THR section of FMA). Pilot just has to select Reverse.

  • Why then the "retard" is heard 3 or 4 times if it just a reminder? Also I 'seen videos of A340's and there is no particular patern in the "retard" callout. So it could be like "20 retard, 10, 5" or "20 retard retard retard, 7" or some times the last "retard' is not even finished like "20 retard retard retard ret..., 4".

Also just before touch down, at about 5 feet, thrust goes idle -at least it is heard like this from the outside- before engaging the reversers.

    Any answers for these things?

  • @rd4859 if the retard callout appears, and you set the levers to idle, the retard callout will be interrupted because you've done what they voice suggested. And you first hear the engines idling before reverse thrust because they are set to idle at or below 20 feet. Reverse only engages when the Engines are at idle. On Airbus aircraft you don't even have separate idle levers unlike on Boing aircraft. You have to pull the levers back which automatically crosses the idle setting.

  • @FlightsimFanatic370 That's utter tosh. See below. The retard call is the demand for the pilot to move the thrust levers to the idle detent. Retard, in French, means late.

  • @FlightsimFanatic370 No it doesn't. It means "late" in French. The "retard" call is for pilots to retard/idle (slow) the throttles, and repeats until the throttles are at idle.

  • It seems like the guy on the GPWS sounds kinda sleepy.

  • Retard....RETARD

    Cool computer voice XD

  • just got done with flying school, i have all the ratings to be a commercial pilot total with college and all about $150,000 (us currancy)

  • @skier4life27 Well done!

  • lucky u :) u must be a smart person :D

  • @skier4life27 all that for a job that will pay you 15,000 per year. maybe you should go back to college and get educated.

  • @beergut111 To be a pilot you need to love your job, and not mind about pay. Yes, that's the case for other jobs as well.. for the most part, but to be a pilot you need to be willing to, and enjoy, dedicating your life to the airline. And anyways, saying that it's going to pay $15,000 a year is pointless. Other airlines pay media $300,000. Instead of giving the lowest possible pay.. maybe average?

  • @scaremenga ivw flown for an airline for 30+ years. you're kinda off base there. $300k a year is a big dream.

    $25k is about a high average......today.

  • @beergut111 I was looking at the senior officer pay-scales.. for a major airline, specifically Delta. I've no idea what airline you work for, but you have to agree.. you need to love flying to be a pilot.

  • @skier4life27 Lucky!!

  • @skier4life27 $150K in debt ? whew hope you land good job soon.

  • aggresive computer voice, it could say please flare, instead of telling you retard...

  • Retard is telling you to "Retard" the throttles or put them on idle

  • oh right, i thought retard meant pitch up slightly (flare)

  • the study *KLS* here in holland to fly for KLM costs 117500 euro. (200000 dollar?) so, a lot of money! but it's the best flightschool in the world.

  • do they computer say retard?

  • Yes.

  • yes it means for the captain to put the engines to idle

  • Very god!

  • Sin palabras!

  • my father is a pilot of TAP and I live in madeira sometimes he ask me if I wanna go with him to lisbon and come back and I go in the cokpit with him!!! AWESOME madeira é a melhor ilha do mundo

  • Can you please ask him what do you need to be a pilot? I want to be a pilot? please reply

  • Flying lessons and atleast £15,000

  • it depends on where you are from ?

  • Did you ever land on a bridge?? BTW the approach on 05 is my favourite.

  • Lol the little computer voice sounds exactly like a Speak & Spell (the youngins won't remember that from the early '80s).

    Nice video BTW.

  • i had one

  • sounds like mr. bean

  • how you get this ?

  • wow smooth touch =) awesome

  • awesome !!

  • This computerised voice is so annoying.

Prefer the one that appears at my video.

  • is this TAP?

  • normally Yes

  • interesting..very nice touchdown

  • mostly videos like these are made when a plane is overpacked pilots (that are not flyind that aircraft) are alowed to sit in the jump seat behind the captin.

  • Cos it just sounds like a retard. :X

  • Retard is for the pilots to 'Retard' The thrust levers.

  • Oh, I thought it was the plane calling the pilot a retard.

  • how did you get through the cockpit????? please reply

  • Well, I fly for them, so I'm allowed.

  • @N4145D Lmao.

  • Hate the voice of the altitude callouts in airbus's :l

  • LOL ya.

  • ok no one really cares everyone else likes them

  • No1 is allowed an opinion these days? LOL Pathetic. shut up.

  • You should see the video on youtube of the "betty" who actually does the callouts.

  • this is the simple approach the tricky one is were you go over Canico and Santa cruz landing in a west-east direction. you have to loose altitude and a constant change in direction

  • Very good work - 5 stars

  • Good video...

  • madeira is a very tricky approach.

  • Airbus don`t have GPWS, they have EGPWS. :p lol

  • What is the difference?

  • EGPWS has a worldwide digital terrain database and use GPS position. This combined with the ability to display surrounding terrain on the navigation display.

  • Lol That GPWS (Radio Altimeter) Sounds a little bit porly :P lol

  • Tap air portugal ??

  • Thomas Cook Airlines Belgium :)
