Theres a theory that Abrams took the idea of the monster from. The 7000 miles deep underwater volcano vents. They have a specific type of bacteria that is the size of an atom. It is called the bacterium infernus which translates to bacteria from hell. Whenever large amounts of it meets, it bonds and evolves automatically breaking away from regular evolution. It is a type of new species but more and more of them together make bigger more highly adept creatues.

This movie is excellent. Yes, what basically happens is on the Coney Island footage around the part where Beth says "I had a good day" just a bit before that, if you look in the background you see a comet landing in the ocean. This is supposedly an "egg" I assume. It isn't specified as the last of it's species but it is the only of it's species residing on Earth temporarily. The parasites that come off of it are not offsprings but, well, simply parasites.

I really enjoyed the ending because well i suppose no one likes a subtle endign but thats what gave it it's edge. the intensity rises and reaches the climax and all of a sudden it just stops. liek your heart racing at a million beats per second just stopping gosh i thought it was genuis. And the camera idea was original I really liekd that. it was really something new. :)
