  • Seeing actual footage of Crisp really makes you appreciate John Hurt's portrayal of him.

  • I would love to get a copy of The Significent Death of Quentin Crisp :) Sounds very interesting...much like his final comment concerning his own death...

  • fabulous, i visited that homely squalid room back in the mid 90's and politely refused a cup of tea, i should not have been able to drink it, primarily out of sheer excitement to be a guest of mr crisp, secondly because i'm anally retentive and could not face supping from his cup. however that afternoon on the lower. east side was one of the happiest of my life. thank you for the memories.

  • He chose to live like this and had over a million dollars in his savings account when he died.

  • I lived around the corner from Quentin for a number of years. By the way, most of us live in apartments as small as his. And though he didn't find cleaning the apartment important, he was always dressed and groomed impeccably on the street. He was a fascinating person and he is missed in the neighborhood.

  • I know several so called "bohemian" artists,

and being a creative person myself, I know Quintin Crisp would simply not complain about the way he lived, as he could not have lived otherwise. He would never clean for instance , as he found that totally un-important.If somebody would have watched over him, and cleaned for him ,he would have accepted that, but as for himself, he couldn't care less...

I loved his personality and hope I'll be able to get his age in the same dignaty.

  • he died of old, right? we going to miss you sir crisp, really was a great person

  • This special man never had much all his life but he had so much to say and was real, and still managed to be a nice man rip...there will never be anyone like him again :0

  • I issued this guys final uk pension from his lawyers in US, sad time as I like him.

  • This seems so surreal, but it is the way manuy elderly people live in NYC. Such a tragdey for all of them, but this is Quintin Crisp for gods sake!

  • the worst must be the living going on in berths at that 'hotel' on the Bowery, such a place would be forbidden in UK or Germany

  • this dream called Quentin Crisp, is for us, is for me. So I'll pay the price...

  • thank you for this video a truly remarkable man a true english gent lest we forget his cruasade

  • hi nathan, thanks for posting this, it brings back some memories. the words he said.. seem mirrired somehow in words he said to me when l met him in new york in 1998. we went for a meal and yes, lol, l paid for it. a very lovely man, very gentle and carefree. lived a minimilists life and seemed to complain very little about his life style... sadly missed nad neve forgotten.

  • His apartment was so small and it looks like he didn't have much stuff, so sad

  • An absolute legend of a person. One of the greatest Britons to ever live. Sadly missed.

  • Shame he didnt exactly get the death he wanted. But at least he's not going to be forgotton anytime soon

  • Nathan i would love a copy of this and would gladly send you a few quid to cover expenses!

  • An amazing he fought for gay rights and had it hard! R.I.P. Quentin Crisp! xxx

  • He fought for gay rights, errm he regarded homosexuality as an illness. He only ever fought for himself, which he did heroically. Goodbye Denis.

  • yes, he was very perceptive. he understood that homosexuality is, profoundly, destructive. such is the price of insight.

  • @Shanniquitie

You have clearly missed his point entirely. It was not homosexuality that he saw as "profoundly destructive" (your rather loaded phrase) but rather the mindless status quo that forces any minority into 'non-acceptance'. As he stated time and time again tolerance will only ever be the result of boredom. And though you are indeed a bore, you yourself are not yet bored enough to keep your mouth shut. but time will out.........

  • @michaelmouse1 you've obviously never read the man's books. the only thing i'm bored of is your illiterate sort. don't question the wisdom of those who understand more than you can, and feel more deeply than you ever shall.

  • @Shanniquitie two words. fuck off. well three really. fuck off moron.

  • @michaelmouse1 thought so. i pity you.

  • I miss Quintin's wit and unintentional wisdom .I feel his life gave him real insight's into human nature .

  • Wow this is sooooooooooooooooo.. cool

I'm a big Quentin admirer. You have to tell me where I can see or how to get a dvd of your Meeting Mr Crisp movie...

    Thanks for the answer

  • Thanks for your message. MEETING MR CRISP isn't distributed - I could burn you off a DVD if you ask nively and chuck me a few quid to cover expenses - there's not much more of the Quentin interview in the film though - as the rest of it concerns Bette Bourne's performance as him and the circumstances around his death - another film I made for Channel 4 THE SIGNIFICANT DEATH OF QUENTIN CRISP should be in their archive (if you can get at it). xN

  • what an amazing character!
