  • I love this song. And not just the song, I wish that I would've been able to go to that concert. Look how he rocked that duck suit! Nobody else would've been able to wear that and not gotten tomatoes thrown them. If anything, he made that costume look cooler. : )

  • This is my favorite Elton John costume. I like it better than the Dodger uniform he wore at Dodger Stadium, where Cal Worthington and his dog Spot (the biggest male African lion that I've ever seen) introduced him.

  • Thumbs up if you put "fat duck dancing around with herpies" and got here

  • @myassin2009 ಠ_ಠ

  • rock on elton john he may be on drugs but,he gave a excellent concert that day thanks elton john for the music

  • Kudos to you for having the footage, not just a snapshot! :D

  • get up and quack quack elton john great concert quack quack

  • This is an awesome song...for the time...you can still feel the energy of this concert...it brings back the joy of the musicians and concerts of the time. God Bless whoever put this on utube and thanks Elton you wonderful musician with that so powerful band in this concert. Love this video...

  • It's Funny How The Band Played Along with elton's jokes.

  • wonderful song. I wish he would play this song today, too

  • Id do ANYTHING to go back in time and go to this concert. PRICLESS :D

  • kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

  • OMG! I danced endlessly to this song in the late 70's! What a joy!!!

  • Que obvia vestida de pato donald

  • Dont do cocaine kids! lol

  • hahahahha i laughed so hard him in the contume! XD love when he put his leg on the piano haha

  • There is no better performer than Donald Duck ;3

  • Yay, I'm so with you:)

  • Underneath Elton's piano it said "This is my piano so fck off, signed Elton John"

  • Long live the biggest star in the world!

  • Nigel Olsson is the COOLLEST!!!!

  • Oh God! Nigel Olson who is the drummer is the hottest of the time....ya I know who cares but me!

  • Elton John dressed as donald duck Priceless!!!! ELTON ROCKS!!!!

  • that was ridiculous! and still really really cool! we have nothing like this anymore. god that man can play the piano, amen! and dance stupid, but god, it puts every "music" act of the last 10 years to shame!

  • @writingjerk

im 37 and i grew up on his music..and i oen everythiung he has done since 69...I am a trained bass player as well...WHen i hear people remark on his sexuality my thing is like SO what? Your a fan and thats enough and if ohters are more on about his private lives then it must mean they hold it in some mystical light...for me ill play his bass lines anything i want and ill enjoy myself..music is too good to get hung up on such boring aspects..EJ is the way he is because he can be.

  • @writingjerk His music is not gay, That is the man "behind" the music . His first 8 albums are All- Time Rock Classics! His later stuff is mostly adult contemporary . Ask anyone over 50 about his music. NEVER limit yourself to ONE band! That is just CRAZY. Have you heard of the group AMERICA? You should try them next.

  • What a time, 1980. I was only 4 at the time, but, if there were a time and place to be, I would want to be 20 years old living in NYC in 1980.

  • Cool, he dressed up to cover up his emotions, his way of "hiding away from himself". Elton has improved sooo much since, hense not dressing up like here. We love our Elton, couldn't live without him!

  • Went on a whim with a bunch of folk I worked with and it was an event of a lifetime! There were alot of folk there and it was a party city, no f'n "wilding" going on!

  • Central Park in New York City, September 1980. I was there. There was no room to lay down a blanket, it was so crowded everyone stood on your stuff.

  • The second piano? The great James Newton Howard, one of the greatest O.S.T composer!

  • I remember watching this concert on HBO back then as a kid. Being seven years old at the time, this was obviously my favorite part because of the Donald Duck costume! The cool thing about it was that it was free to attend like a lot of other concerts back then. That's something you hardly ever see anymore from these world famous artists.

  • @marioTmaggot yep i saw it on hbo in summer 81 or so and was hooked..i was 8 or so and now 30 years on there isnt a single bass line to any of his songs i cannot play...funny how people can see the same things at the same time and the effects it has on them...some people became big fans..for me i already grew up with EJ in my house so to get to see his stage behavior and how tight the band was on some of his long solo's as an adult its a real treat.

  • You know you're a hugely successful musician when you can be taken seriously in that outfit. This is great, thanks for posting.

  • this outfit is embarrassingly ridiculous. Only a gay man would wear it for attention

  • @k3304 lol you probably have used a flashlight to light up a dark room before.

  • @platitudipus , Elton just wanted to be an asshole this day in 1980 with that outfit

  • Anyone who does a show dressed up as donald duck is my hero.

  • What are they waiting to release this on DVD? I swear that I don´t get it

  • @nigelguliver22 you can get the VHS on amazon.com ;p

  • I was so close to the stage, I saw what Elton wrote underneath his piano..

  • @DiamondsAndDenim Never been that close to his piano but I've read about it LOL!!!

  • @DiamondsAndDenim So what was it?

  • @DiamondsAndDenim what did he write under his piano? The set list I assume?

  • @DiamondsAndDenim

I'm curious. What did Elton write underneath the piano?

  • What a fucking powerful, stellar career this man has had. It is truly unmatched. He is a fucking major powerhouse rock icon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I bet even he regrets wearing this outfit.

  • Thanks for keeping this on the net I do appreciate it. I saw this some 30 years ago and recorded it and lost it, thought I would not see it again, thanks. Saw Elton in Lubbock, Texas about a month ago. Same intensity, he had em standin and singing even the young ones. At the end he did autographs etc. No other act appearing he played for 2 hours and 45 minutes. It was great. SIR ELTON JOHN

  • The Greatest Melody Writer Ever In Popular Music

  • he's so good

if he'd put a costume of big poop i don't mind

as long he makes me get up and dance

  • James Newton Howard on second piano. Nigel Olson 'prowling' his kit like a prizefighter. And David "Dee" Murray (rip) on base. Great version of a good song off a decent album.

  • @usmcfutball Who's on the second guitar???

  • @usmcfutball ...and is Davey on the first???

    but wasn't he blond????

  • @maxxxx1972

No evidence of Davey Johnstone anywhere on this clip. Lad was 6' 4" tall with long blonde hair so he'd be tough to hide. I haven't a clue as to either of the guitar players' identities. Certainly not Caleb Quaye.

  • @usmcfutball Oh i know, not for sure there is not Caleb.

Anyway i checked on the credits of the 1980 studio album (21 at 33).

The guitarists in that album was Richie Zito and Steve Lukather.

One of these on the stage in this video is very similar to Ziot (that wear a white vest)

  • @maxxxx1972 It was Richie Zito and Tim Renwick on guitar on this tour. Davey Johnstone was off with Meatloaf I think around then

  • Hit #28 in the US (Billboard). How'd it do in the UK? God bless!

  • People take musci for ganted these days. They forget that Elton basically invented the over the top wildness in costumes and behavior, that every artsit today takes liberty of....except the difference is he actually HAD the talent first then the costumes 2nd.

NOBODY wnated to wear glasses until Elton made the cool.

Who in their right mind would wear a friggin Donald Duck outfit and just have FUN?

  • LOL his outfit is hilarious

  • The title of this song brings two words to mind:

    DAT ASS

  • You've just got to love Elton haven't you!

  • Elton and Bernie are the best. I am 44 and have loved them both since 1974. Keep more song coming guys

  • He's so coked out in this concert lol...

  • Elton es INMORTAL

  • BLOODY FANTASTIC!!!!

  • Faboulous performance!!! Elton John RULES!!!!!

  • Was multitrack ever recorded at this gig? And while it would be sitting on Quad or 1inch C... is there a safety master of this gig kicking around?

Warner - RELEASE THE SODDING THING!

  • Even Though I'm Just 15 years old, I Love Elton John And His Band. Nigel Is My Favorite Of His Bandmates.

  • Hey I'm 14 and also love Elton's music and his band, and too think that no one can beat Elton because he's simple the Best... And in this video he looks pretty handsome...

  • Lol I'm 41 and have loved Elton since 14 !!

  • I'm 46 and loved Elton sine about 10. I remember getting Blue Moves for Christmas back in '76. It wasn't one of his most popular albums, but I think it's very under-rated. Lots of great songs on it, and yes, the band was excellent.

  • Comment removed

  • nope he never sold it, this is one of the outfits he said that he would never sell =)

  • Yep..just the kind of puff who saved so many young people's sanity back in the day by being as honest as he could be about who he is and who he loves. I love Reginald Kenneth Dwight and this song was my Dad's favorite! It rocked our house many a Sunday morning. Thanks so much for posting, rockermad!

  • I'm sure he said somewhere that he'll never sell this outfit though he sold a lot of other great outfits! But he loves the Donald Duck so he keeps it!

  • nigel rulzz

  • Unbeatable performance!

  • got his autograph and a message from him

  • i was at this porformence in da 80's

  • i would so wear that costume

  • he is so cute like seriously he looks so funny and cute at the same time i met him and i met pual mccartney and chris brown and sean kingston

  • elton and paul are old enough to be sean kingstons grandfathers and there still awesome rock stars@ i saw elton twice last year :)

  • i saw him at his red piano

  • Comment removed

  • he is so funny in this out fit but he's really good at singing:):):):)

  • Maybe someone sucked his DUCK. LOLOLOL

  • This song rocks!! I've loved this song since I first heard it back when this concert was first televised back in the summer of 1980.

  • i. must. have. that. costume.

    .

  • Bugger that costume! I want a DVD of this gig in my collection. And a legit one at that. GET ON IT, WEA!

  • I'm amazed!!! I cannot stop laughing! Elton is spectacular!!! I love this outfit lol

And how he dances (if you can call jumping araound and shaking you butt "dancing") ... he is so great! I love everything he did and does and will do!!!!

  • Elton John is legendary...alot of the so called "mega" pop stars today are not even marginally close to Elton's star power.

  • nor his sense of style lol

  • @alfredunhill 100% agree !!!!!!

  • I have watched this video soo many times. I can't download the song for some reason, I get zero results when I search it.

  • o rlyy?

    cuz i turn 15 on november 15th

and i love elton john too =)

so im seeing in mohegan sun that day as a birthday gift

i saw him in the summer too at atlantic city =)

    i can not wait!! :D

    and his musics not gay

its awesome! and hes so happy wen playing hes a happy camper and hes over 60! =)

  • This was the first of the annual concert series in Central Park in NYC. Elton was in his crazy costume phase then. He received alot of criticism for singing "Your Song" (considered a classic) in that suit... But this song is much more appropriate for it.

  • Long Live Elton!

  • The track on the album is very 'Hey Jude' repeating the same thing about 50 times (probably just to fill the album for the sake of it). Repeating it so many times only works when there's something to detract from it (like on my favourite 1977 Wembley performance, or this even).

  • And you know what, I wouldn't have him any other way. The man conjured music out of thin air and all you can do is attack his orientation? Come stronger with a better argument, because that's not going to fly.

All of that coming from a straight man.

  • I like Measure of a Man.

  • Elton is more succesful than Freddy.

    Freddie was gay ,too.

  • to "thetruthfulasshole" you say eltons music is "gay" if you think that why are you watching the videos and listening to it then, if you saw Elton John you wouldnt say this to his face you would be telling him what a excellent singer he is. Get a life man -- RIP Dee Murray - Still rocking Elton!!

  • abosolutely - RIP Dee Murray... it's a shame he's not around anymore.

  • God only knows how many times I've watched this one... best version of the song that I'm aware of.

  • There's a much more recent live version from 2004 posted on YouTube also

  • Move that muscle and shake that fat!

  • lol i love his duck suit

  • good, such as HONKY TONK WOMEN of the rolling stones

  • blue moves long play saludos desde magoo-disco in formentera island saludos en youtube la honorable sociedad

  • lmao..such a great showman!

  • At 00:33, Nigel shows his teeth

  • He should still play this at his live shows and it should be on the radio.

  • Wow! LOL!

  • OMG .... I was there! I went with this guy and he was like 6'6" and I am 5' so he put me on his shoulder to watch the concert! Wow what memories! I want to thank you for posting this video!!

  • Is that you in the first 30 sec or so?

  • erm cos ducks r cool? i dunno!! he did somthing mad and spontaneous! its great! GO HIM!!!!!!!!!!

  • somebody please explain to me why he's dressed as Donald Duck

  • because hes Elton John

  • Because he's Elton John

  • I was in the first row cwnter the night before this show in central park. He was in Hartford, Connecticut the night before.

  • blue moves (double album) is exactly as it says-blue--a bit dark in places--

theme from a non-existent tv series is great though!

  • how can you be a die hard elton fan and not heard this one?and where did you hear blue moves was a bad album? mad!

  • how can he use the pedals on the piano with those grande feet ? :p

  • maybe he had giant duck pedals also ;)

  • And people say Blue Moves was a bad album... Maybe not as strong as his work a few years earlier as a whole, but Tonight, Bite Your Lip, and of course Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word... really make the album.

  • true, but dont forget the 3 amazing instrumentals. blue record but still upbeat & not too bad !

  • I've never heard this before and as a die hard Elton fan i'm ashamed to say it. However i bloody loved it!

  • Didn't he carry on playing longer than this? I'm sure it lasted about 7 minutes.

  • LOL! Why is he dressed like that??? Awesome!

  • Even his band can't keep a straight face!

  • YES! THANK YOU!

  • YEAH !!!

Elton closed the Central Park Concert with this song

  • enricopalazzo is a sexy bitch

  • AWESOME! love this song but ive only heard 2 live versions!

  • wich one is the other live version??

because i've only heard this one...

    is it on youtube???

  • no, its an audio file from Atlanta in 2004.

  • friggin awesome
