i swear to god my hermit crab will only eat when there is some kind of music on! ROFL i was looking at it it stoped eating when i turned the music off then i put it back on and it started eating!
Nuuuu.... Hermit crabs *will* pinch you just as much as a regular crab sometimes. Be wary of the purple claw ones, I forget what they're called. Their main claw is freaking HUGE. And I'm not exaggerating this.
@HeeroWithAGun I did a quick search of it and they're Caribbean Hermies. They've got the large purple claw. I got pinched in the middle of my right palm by one of those and it, of course, did not want to let go. It wound up being killed by rubbing alcohol because my friend's dad couldn't get it off of me except by that.

C. Brevimanus/Indonesian
C. Clypeatus/Purple Pincher
C. Compressus/Ecuadorian
C. Rugosus/Ruggie
C. Perlatus/Strawberry
C. Variabilis/Crazy Crab
C. Violescens/Viola
Hermit crabs pinch when they're afraid of falling. If you had calmed down, not screamed or yelled or cried or made any sudden movements, and just placed your hand on the ground where it could safely crawl off, it would have.

Regardless of it, I was merely holding the big guy in my hand. I hadn't done anything or moved to make it think it was falling and I was holding perfectly still, but it was still exerting maybe 80% of it's strength on my palm, if not close to 90. I didn't scream or yell or make any sudden movements or loud sounds; I was only choking back tears and talking about as loud as one should in a library. Some hermies are just aggressive.
they eat just about anything... but i advise you only to feed your crabs organic and preservative-free foods. the stuff they use to make the food might be poisonous.
