Another thought on this is that normally music of this type (ok, big generalisation, bear with me) is entirely electronic and we just get programmed beats/samples/whatever. Listening to this knowing that it's played live (i.e. the drums are recorded in a single take - probably) is revolutionary. I would definitely listen to this whereas I don't listen much to entirely computer-generated music, due to my tendency to prefer listening to real drumming.

Okay...These guys are really good and Jojo Mayer is Unbelievable. but does anybody else find it annoying that they don't focus on making their music "Pleasant to the ear?" They have so much potential. That's why I really was looking forward to this new cd. But the whole songs are just repetition, repetition, repetition. minus his perfect drumming...I just would like to see more groove from the band
@anaconda52 personally I'd disagree with you because I find all their stuff very pleasant to my ears. Repetition comes with the DnB genre so I can't really fault them for it, and imo Jojo has all the groove anyone needs
But yeah I can see why people would have complaints like these.
@anaconda52 I would disagree. You have to take into account what they are shooting for with the music. This is electronic dance music of the modern day performed with instruments. Groove and repetition go hand in hand. Not to mention Jojo hits the mark and so does the rest of the band. From the slow dirty breakdown to the building layers of rhythm and atmosphere back into the original groove; very impressive progressions. You may not prefer the genre, but this is a class act.
@anaconda52 If you like, and want, groove, there are so many places to hear it. I only heard Mayer's stuff last night and although initially the sound of the music was cacaphonic to my ears, listening to it today I find it's growing on me and, in its own way, it grooves. Right now I just want to listen to it loads! Pleasant to the ear? Well I take your point. It's f*cking mental, but it is fascinating.
@anaconda52 I feel the repetition in the bass sets off the drums perfectly. It gives the listener a point of reference. Plus the bassist is obviously an amazing sound designer. He's playing repetitive patterns but the sounds themselves have so much movement.
@anaconda52 You sound like you want to check some Chambers, Wooten, Howe colaborations. ;) More groove (well thats debatable), less repetitions and with Howe, more guitar shredding.
@anaconda52 First, tbh Don't u find it rather conceitedly to expect "Pleasant to ear music" from the band called Nerve? :) Second, try to compare live and studio versions of the songs their almost the same - it's not rehearsals - all the music is thought over and evrthing is right where it belongs. Third and the last - CAN'T U FEEL THE VIBE!? o_O Yeah, Baby!
@anaconda52 Completely agree, not all the music in this is unpleasant but I absolutely hate those out of tune notes from the keyboard every few bars. Theres no musical logic behind it he's just sacrificing musicality for originality. They have so much potential indeed to make amazing music, why waste it when you're lucky enough to work with such a phenominal drummer.
@Paun12 this is from ep1. You can get it at the link in the description. Also they have a new ep out (called ep2 SO CREATIVE RIGHT??) but I haven't gotten it yet. I think the second track on ep1 is actually better than this though so you have that to look forward to.
I fucking love the dubstep part!!

One of the few bands that get no thumbs down. But that must be for the reason that disliking this equals disliking music in general.

@anaconda52 ...the band is all groove. what do you think groove is? by definition, it's repetition and tasteful application.
