Just as only a few of us living, witnessed the landing on the moon, remember the hay day of the Wolfman. Yes a very happy birthday to the Wolfman. Thank you 1863year for reminding us.
I listened to Wolfman when he was on the 50,000 watt XERB station in Tijuana, Mexico on my car radio in 1969 when I was 19 and was cruzing main st. in Medford Oregon on Saturday nights.
I actually forgot all about this guy till I ran across this tribute to him on YouTube! Oh the memories. Makes me fall in love with life and real music all over again. Enjoy everyone!
IIII guess youd say what can make me feel this way..MY GIIIIIRL TALKING BOUT MY GIRL.auuuuhhhhWOWAUUHHHHH... i got sunshine on a cloudy day when its cold outside...snap ur fingers he hey hey türühüüüü i dont need now money no fortune or fame..auuhhhhhuuhhhh :'''-(
Me and my 'buds' used to listen to 'The Wolfman' in the 60s-70s in LA. He used to broadcast out of Rosarita Beach just south of the Cal/Mex border. Man, those were some great times! Thanks for posting this!
I grew up in the 70's. Not allowed to listen to anything but AM country. I would slip my little transistor under my pillow & fall asleep to Wolf Man in Chicago. Wake up in wee hours & hide it. Wolf Man will always be my idol of 70's rock. RIP
back in the days the 60s we onty had a transistor radio but the wolfman jack sound good to us even a small radio the wolfman came in loud and clear thank you wolfman for making my teen yeas the best
He was the best of all at AFN Frankfurt. I used to record the Wolfman Jack Show as I was a boy - only five years old! I didn´t understand the language, BUT ... the music of his voice!
Had me a solid state wide band radio black with leather cover which sat on my project desk in my bedroom. I found the Wolfman on late every night in southern California in the early seventies. One night some young girl called in and said I love you Wolfman and he replied back, the Wolfman loves you too darling then he dedicated a song to her. The Wolfman was different in a way that made him feel like family without ever knowing the dude. He was just so down to earth and real on the radio.
When I was living in San Diego around 1964 or '65, Wolfman was broadcasting on XERB, an AM station in Mexico somewhere around Tijauna. k. He was the most unusual thing on late evening radio in those days. No one having ever seen him, we all figured he was a black guy. Too much soul for a white guy.
The Wolfman was the shyt growing up in the Salinas Valley in the late 60's and early 70's there was no good stations xcept for KDON (pop music) but at a certain time at night there was XERB straight out of LA. thanks for the music and memories Wolfman and after the Wolfman there was The Art Laboe Oldies Show..
1.00-1.10...my mentor for good music.6 days too late, anyway happy birthday.best radio dj in my lifetime.eagles-o'jays-everything,only metall.how could i forget you !
my dad said back in the bad old days you could ( on a good night ) hear The Wolfman at least as far north as his little AM box in Montreal. A lot of people complain about the music nowadays, but the only difference is in those days the good music was on the radio. Now you gotta search for it.
@Grober7 I could hear his show in Vallejo when I was out cruising in my 66 Plymouth Belvedere. Now I get KFRC (SF AM Station) on radio.com and they are playing the same stuff as in the 60's!
@Grober7 hmm, ha. I wish I would check to see if that's true, find some facts to back it up with. I'd be a great thing to say if one could say it knowing it's true.
@mip0 It is true. Illegal power rated stations are hardly unusual in Mexico, especially then. When the conditions were right, you could hear it a lot further away than Montreal ... Wolfman ... was the Wolfman. What can you say? One of a kind. I wasn't around for the really old one's but I will always remember the Wolfman ... how can you not. He is a part of my childhood. He was, to use the term, "groovy".
I had just moved to NYC in the late 60's. I was so homesick, one cannot imagine, coming from TUCSON AZ...Then, one night, I happened to be scanning for stations and LO and BEHOLD, there was my WOLF MAN out of Laredo Texas!!!! I cried and fell asleep....in peace...I WAS HOME! Good night dear Wolf...We'll never ever forget you!!!
I am way to young (23) to have had the pleasure of listening to him on the radio. I love what I would call "good music" and I wish I could have heard this man live. The voice of the "good music."
I was born in Dec. 1982, My parents were military and my Parents has the privilege of knowing Wolfman Jack. I never got to know him as we moved alot. I have one pic of me as a baby with Wolfman. In my pic he looked so young and vibrant. But the beard is gone just side burns. Can anyone tell me haw to verify if it's really him in this pic.

This one brought me to tears. The Wolfman came on, on Armed Forces Radio in Rota Spain, at midnight (of course). The theme music was the cue for Dave Blackburn, my roommate, and me, to open a bottle of Cold Duck, pour it into Welch's Grape Juice jars, and listen to the tunes of '73-'75. I never expected to hear his voice again. Anchors aweigh, Wolfman. We miss you deeply.
My father has told me stories of Wolfman Jack, and said that he has talked to him on the radio before. He was in Gadsden Alabama in about September or October of 1973. They called him Kentucky. My dad said that he saw a "flying saucer" and he told Wolfman Jack about it. I would loovvvveeee to hear that, but can't find it. :(
@1120tboneballa When I ran the 730 mile run, the gay dispatcher did not want me to be with my daughter, loaded the truck at 11 at night, sunday, every two weeks i got to see her, if mom and the stepdad did not tell me they did not know where she was, anyways, all those little craggy mountains headind out east of tonapah, like a bright light in the passenber window, would race over a mile ahead, uncle sam has badass weapons of mass destruction, pray that they use them correctly.
Man you just miss him and there is nobody out there to replace the one the only WOLFMAN JACK Whoooooooooooo baby, its a time that will never ever be again and it was the best time I can ever remember, so sad the world has changed to what it is today. God bless you Wolfman and the memories of you will live as long as we do!!!
You got that right brother.I was working i WPBR Fla and was lucky to have wolfman sit in with me,he was at our remote the night before and the first thing he said to me was,Bossjock I was listening to you last night, you need to get your ass out to L A.WOW!!He was so kind and great to work with. There is no Radio anymore with no thanks to the FCC and Cheapchannel(clearchannel) and fking computers.RIP Wolfman and thank you for the good times and the kind words. Rock and Roll will stand man.
The real Wolfman was Wolfman Jack. A lil' before your time! Youtube him or ask mom about the most famous AM Radio DJ of all time. XCRV AM RADIO L.A. 1090 on your AM dial
This little forum just shows how diverse, but together we really are as Americans. The status quo would love to have us divided but when it all comes down, we will all stand together. Remember what we had back then and think about the reasons we don't have it today. Black, White, Brown.... We are all Americans. I'm an old Vietnam vet, fought next to some of the best in the world and color didn't matter.
That's because we WERE SO COOL! Every one of us had morals and convictions. I am so saddened by what we have become. I for one, am going to fight to get US back. How great we could be if our kids had what we had....
I just read on a website called the vault wiki wich is a wiki on the computer game fallout three and it said that the radio host on the game was based of this guy and you can see a resemblance in them i think, how cool!
We can, in a way get that mindset back if we try. We are all Americans, and if we all find a way to come together, we can get back to those grassroots beliefs that made us as great as we were back then. I belong to a group called Oathkeepers. We all want our great nation back. We are non partisan, colorblind and no more than American patriots. In my opinion, we have to start somewhere... Look us up on Youtube.
The free America of those days was hijacked and destroyed not by terrorists but by your own Government puppets of Corporate and Banking cartels - simple as that - they are the ones who destroyed America.
I so agree. its an awful thing when the majority of Americans see our own government as THE ENEMY. I still have faith though. I have faith in our people and the heart that comes with being an American. WE will overcome when the SHTF. Let's do what we can to bring this growing opportunity back to our kids. If we can do that, I will sleep well in my elder years....
Sad thing is that most people will wait until TSHTF before taking action - when the writing has been on the wall a long long time! By time the majority are roused enough to take action against the traitors in Government - it will be too late.
It's quite strange that there was never any problem in history rousing the public against foreign enemies - but the traitorous government has everyone hoodwinked into passivity. It's a war of information that they run rings around the people with.
We aren't as dumb as they think we are. It will be us, the guys from this era that put up the fight. I will stand shoulder to shoulder with you, my friend.
Well my dad was a vietnam vet (australian SAS) and things have gone the same way in this country- this corporate enslavement we are in is NOT the future he fought for!
We're in the same boat - we'll all rise up or go down together! I'm with ya bro!
Orale hermano. I get a tear in my eye when I think about where we've gone since then. I miss my old friends. Chicano y gabacho con todos. We are still Americans and we still bleed red white and blue....
I remember cruising my 62 Fairlane with Wolfman on the AM. Cussing at the Mexicans in their lowriders because they'd block the street going too slow....lol
It was funny, we would fight and curse each other and then end up in the supermarket parking lot drinking beer together and checking out each others cars. The only time there was a real problem was when someone from another town showed up....
Wonder if there could ever be another Wolfman. I have to say though, it was all in the music. We all listened to the same stuff, but had different agendas. Too bad our kids these days are inundated with either gangster crap or political correctness.
Thank you, I enjoyed that. I too, am old enough to remember the Wofman, his craziness and his prank phone calls. Radio is not the same without him. Not at all. Not even worth it any more.
I was lucky enough to listen to the Wolfman in Los Angeles....I am 58 years young, and those really were the good 'ol days!! The Wolfman is never gone as long as you keep him in your heart!
Everything Wolfman did was great, but when we were cruising the Blvd on .23 cent a gallon gasoline, the prank calls he made live on the air were the best! Friday and Saturday nights have never been the same!
@suchidog Oh yeah ... I grew up in LA as well. The Wolfman he could make a bad day better. When I think DJ, I think the Wolfman. Sunset, Santa Monica, PCH, PV Drive, Wilshire .... there are times when I miss the LA of my youth. Friday and Saturday man.
Hi , im from germany. As i was very young, i think around 15-16, i have heard him first time. He worked for the AFN-Frankfurt Radio Station. It was a nice radio station!! I will never forget this voice when he was leading us through the Charts. I often think about this crazy wonderful time in the 70s and i will never forget the hours which we are spending in front of the radio...Sleep well Wolfman, i know you understand me.
One night I was at the country radio seminar in Nashville TN at the Opryland hotel and they have this control room there and as I'm walking by Wolfman Jack was on the air. It was a total surprise and reminded me of his Part in American Graffiti, So what to they do with good old boys like me
cigarmikey1 a few spaces down below has missed the target--wolfman jack started broadcasting in the 1960's. . . not the 1950's. . . .my buddies and I used to get high and howl with him all the time. He was a kick.
Three Dog is based on 1960's radio personality "Wolfman Jack", (formely Moondog) who used to howl between song selections and often placed on-air prank phone calls to strangers.
His last words reportedly were "Its so good to be home". After that, he suffered a heart attack and died in his wife's arms, if I'm not mistaken. Rest in peace Wolfman/
Whaaaa!!!! I miss the wolfman!!! I can remember when I was a kid, I could get his show on the radio, but i'd have to keep the sound down, down, down so my mom would hear. Back then the Wolfman was a parent's nightmare and would destroy me. I miss him!!!! :(((((
Heard the tribute songs like Stampeders Guess Who at the time in the UK.

Cruisin' up and down Van Nuys Blvd in The Valley, listening to The Wolfman!!!
We thought we were SO cool!!!
Those were the Days...
JNTM2000 2 years ago 2
That's because we WERE SO COOL! Every one of us had morals and convictions. I am so saddened by what we have become. I for one, am going to fight to get US back. How great we could be if our kids had what we had....

I just read on a website called the vault wiki wich is a wiki on the computer game fallout three and it said that the radio host on the game was based of this guy and you can see a resemblance in them i think, how cool!

okbuilder 2 years ago
You do remember then, Sarge. What I would give to have those days back.....
okbuilder 2 years ago
We can, in a way get that mindset back if we try. We are all Americans, and if we all find a way to come together, we can get back to those grassroots beliefs that made us as great as we were back then. I belong to a group called Oathkeepers. We all want our great nation back. We are non partisan, colorblind and no more than American patriots. In my opinion, we have to start somewhere... Look us up on Youtube.
okbuilder 2 years ago
The free America of those days was hijacked and destroyed not by terrorists but by your own Government puppets of Corporate and Banking cartels - simple as that - they are the ones who destroyed America.
mallamoozoo 2 years ago 2
I so agree. its an awful thing when the majority of Americans see our own government as THE ENEMY. I still have faith though. I have faith in our people and the heart that comes with being an American. WE will overcome when the SHTF. Let's do what we can to bring this growing opportunity back to our kids. If we can do that, I will sleep well in my elder years....
okbuilder 2 years ago
Sad thing is that most people will wait until TSHTF before taking action - when the writing has been on the wall a long long time! By time the majority are roused enough to take action against the traitors in Government - it will be too late.
It's quite strange that there was never any problem in history rousing the public against foreign enemies - but the traitorous government has everyone hoodwinked into passivity. It's a war of information that they run rings around the people with.
mallamoozoo 2 years ago 2
We aren't as dumb as they think we are. It will be us, the guys from this era that put up the fight. I will stand shoulder to shoulder with you, my friend.
okbuilder 2 years ago
Well my dad was a vietnam vet (australian SAS) and things have gone the same way in this country- this corporate enslavement we are in is NOT the future he fought for!
We're in the same boat - we'll all rise up or go down together! I'm with ya bro!
mallamoozoo 2 years ago
@mallamoozoo
Well what do we expect the kids to learn, sending them to that government school as we do?

Yes, I could not agree more. The oligarchy reigns supreme once more.

He was a kick.
seanblackpistolero 2 years ago
Three Dog is based on 1960's radio personality "Wolfman Jack", (formely Moondog) who used to howl between song selections and often placed on-air prank phone calls to strangers.
