I first saw them in Portland at the former La Luna, opening four Soul Asylum back in 1995. I was 16 and it was my first show. It's funny because I got way more into these guys than Soul Asylum. Sure, in hindsight they were fairly derivative of the grunge scene going on around them, but they had a sweet knack for pop hooks that set them apart. Plus, this music is just pure nostalgia, to me.
I saw them on New Years Eve when they put on a great show at Sit N Spin in Seattle. They were rocking a very lounge look / austin powers thing that night, with Braden sporting a shag haircut. I have to say they were never Nirvana wannabees. Never ever.
@sinaj Has anyone heard this new kid with interscope backed by aftermath shady ?? son ryze damn he is a lyrical master i culdnt wait to hear the next song check tarradactos crazy song bullets flying around like tarradactos haha luv this kid reminds me of th 90's But for the women check the millionaire song or cadillac trac
Ohh cmon... You cant deny the resemblance in the clothing, the hair, the way he moves, the sound... Even if you would say its not nirvanaish, it still isnt good music. Not new the same shit, even worse.
Super Deluxe deserved a lot better than they got in terms of their career. Braden never tried to look like Kurt, that's just how he always looked. If that coincidence helped them out in some ways, it hurt them in others -- they were never trying to be like Nirvana. SD was simply four guys who loved and played glam pop and did it exceedingly well. This business is cruel and unflattering from top to bottom and everywhere in-between.

In Seattle in the mid-'90's when these guys were coming up, they were *not* thought of as Nirvana wannabes, and were not trying to be. Braden Blake had one of the best singing voices around at that time, but making it in the pop arena is tough. And the drinking didn't help. Their career just never "caught", but it should have. I saw them many times back then, I thought they were gonna be big... life ain't fair.
have to admit a lot of the songs are nirvana-ish. but this album's got feel-good tracks like "flustered" and "holly's dream vacation". definitely NOT nirvana material. and "she came on" is just pure pop ear-candy! no one can deny that. though i have to say i haven't listened much to the rest of their stuff, so that "nirvana wannabe" theory may still hold true.
@swallowwingsfly thats what i thought but i didnt want haters flaming me but it looks like they have no fans considering you and me are the only ones that commented

@swallowwingsfly The only resemblance I can hear or see is the guitar melody, and some of the drumming.
