  • If you want to listen to an incredibly engaging public speaker, look up Christopher Hitchens.

  • Hi! Have you seen the amazon book Public Speaking for Frankenstein ? I got some amazing tips from it and could then gave a stand up talk with no stage fright.

  • A different and valid perspective with points well made

  • It did start over at 1:13

  • A large part of his appeal is his humility and his lack of seeming sophistication - and that's part of what i tell my students to focus on, namely, making yourself likable.

  • "Go out and start an argument". Fight Club for Toastmaster types. :)

  • For Babylon 5 fans: Eric Schmidt would be with The Shadows (conflict is good)!

(Note, I like Schmidt so this is a tongue in cheek comment about B5, not him).

  • he's an ok speaker. but actually I think Sergey is better. Eric has more of a presence in terms of performance but Sergey is just helplessly sober with no kind or charisma. its much better imo. Larry is just plain ol' anti social.

  • @IndivisiblePrinciple i agree with you. the purpose of public speaking is to empower people to do more inspire motivate and cause people to do better u see. so there's a reason behind why he speaks this way. all this charisma and stuff are things which are personality based not character based. skill based i call it normally. so focus on developing your mind your character and you can help others realize that everyone can achieve more. and you don't need a script.

  • Dude, Toastmasters, stat!

  • SO FUNNY LMAO!!!!!

  • That coat is way too big for him. Can someone say tailored?

  • @DannyBoy443 Its the 80s. they all wear suits like that. LOL

  • check the body language!

  • Ppl infront of him never expect that Mr Eric can be a CEO and one of the most riches ppl in the world AT THAT TIME.. =)

  • Wow, what a revealing to his past. Now he's extremely good at public speaking. He's one of those people who are really enjoyable and mind-boggling to listen to. Clearly one of my heroes.

  • 1984 or '85?

  • Piece of history

  • Thanks for sharing. Great video in terms of very encouraging to many nerdy tech ppl including me who find public speaking always a headache and awkward to do. I watched some of his most recent vids and he definitely made huge huge progress and improvement over his presenting skills. He is for sure not THE best speaker, but he always captures the key points and he uses examples a lot which made his talks interesting, and inspiring.

  • lol

  • WHOA!!! COKE GLASSES! I smell a true ladies man ;)

  • This is such a valuable lesson - it is obvious Eric had a tremendous work ethic to improve ALL aspects of himself - a trait that would eventually allow him to lead the most creative, intelligent, successful company in the world. Compare his story to someone like Steve Ballmer.

  • LMAO

    socially awkward..

  • Yes, socially awkward but at the time this video was produced I'd say that he had progressed rather well. The problem with Eric is that he has an elite globalist mentality which was embedded into his brain by his parents and their pro NWO friends from a very early age. I wonder if anyone knows or understands the real motivations behind his acquisition of YouTube:) He made a profit on this deal before he actual consumated it. So, where did that profit come from?Give ya three guesses.

  • Was this for a class?

  • im very happy to have stumbled upon this video. im a huge eric schmidt fanboy, and its nice seeing this old video of him knowing that he is now CEO of google, and a great public speaker!

i also learned a few things about public speaking!

  • give him a wedgie.

  • This is not a public speaking video! Maybe the title needs to be changed! Who is he? Is the the guy at Google? Should be an old video. When i search for Eric Schmidt I obtain an older gentleman on screen!

  • loool

  • Wow, every single video of Eric Schmidt is inspiring. Even so young, his words are full of wisdom.

  • Put your hand down bitch 4:42

  • did he just perfectly mimick the same speach?

  • lol his glasses are retardedly big

  • They were big enough to see Google coming!

  • Common man...this is nowhere close to the actual Public Speaking. This is more like Public Squeaking...Just because you are successful doesn't make you a good public speaker/orator/presenter. Take a break!

  • hahahhaha yeah may be ....nah...I just think he'll make anything of himself, I dont see any potential there....mark my words, he'll never make it pass senior management

  • he's the ceo of google.

  • 2 Children? This man has had sex!

  • twice!! wow

  • No... they're both adopted.

  • wow, I am the 59,599 viewer!!!

  • this didn't teach me squat about public speaking.

  • "um....."

  • first of all, great subject, i totally agree that that the class of ideas and opinions leads to success.

  • awee his cute, seems like a humble guy

  • I think we should take into account that this is an old video. You can see his new speeches in the Google channel. He is a good example that you can turn a weakness into a strength. It's hard to believe he spoke that bad. But hey guys! We are all bad at something and we need the same courage to improve ourselves.

  • It turns out this guy is now the CEO of google, he still seems a little nervous and overdoes his body language when he delivers speeches, but looks a little more confident

  • Several individuals had their hands up during this segment of the video (you just couldn't see them all). Eric was working on improving his eye communication with the audience. The raised hands are an accountability measure. The object of the exercise is the get the hands down by extended eye contact for 5 seconds with each person who has their hand raised.

  • coz not everyone could be like you. some ppl are just shy, and that's the way it is. so what?

  • he'd probably gone overtime in his speech

  • I could have sworn the video started itself over one minute into it.

  • nice speech, i like it.

  • Perhaps to give Schmidt some practice with a classic public speaking distraction or when utilized well, a potential energizer. If so, I wonder if he had the option to "call on her" and opted not to.

  • I and colleagues have been studying the materials out there.

This is definitely a GREAT video we can ALL relate to.

    Thanks for posting this video.

Thanks to YouTube, many will BENEFIT from it.

  • It's incredible how many of Eric's mannerisms are still there today, such as clasping his hands, pointing to the questioner, nodding his head, etc. Thanks for posting this... makes me feel anyone can start from quite humble beginnings (though General Manager at Sun is quite an accomplishment already), and go even further than your wildest dreams.

  • He was about 33 here

  • Eric Schmidt CEO of Google... Great to see that video!

That's where toastmasters can take you!

  • Very interesting and quite funny in a way... Anyone know which year this was recorded?

  • I like this video because I'm just starting my speaking career. Check out my speech and leave a comment please.
