You might have to update it to the latest version. Or change the usb port your plugging it in to. I know that sounds funny, but it didn't work for me at first then i plugged it into a different slot and it worked.

Black rain just jailbreaks it then you get cydia and the apps on their cost money and if you where break you iPod your warenty don't cover it and if you have. 3rd gen the jail break is tethers witch means if you trun it off you have hook it up to ur ppc and run black rain and when it frezzeyou have to turn it off

I jail broke my itouch and it froze it and sence it was tethered I had to hard reset I had to hook it up to my labtop so don't jailbrek it it slows it down alot

Yes you can get apps for free.After you jailbreak it you basically get an application called "Cydia." This app is exactly like the app store on your ipod. But instead of apps from apple, you get apps created by people all over the world! These apps allow you to change the sounds your ipod makes, change the way it looks, allows you to connect to it from your computer and add files to it manually, all sorts of stuff.
