@TeReSaMeNdOzA if you listen (or read) his interviews, you'll learn he HATES what speed has done to espression in modern classical interpretations.. then you'll be smarter... He plays really good classical guitar, I think he asks himself if it's still worth it? Like the comments on this video, not too many people would recognise something wonderful, even if it hit them hard...
I used to have a few of Christopher Parkening records and am familiar with his version. This is wonderful. Have just become aware of Michael Chapdelaine here on YouTube. Thanks for sharing!
Mueve muy bien los dedos, tiene una velocidad asombrosa, pero la ejecución del instrumento no se agota ahí. Ha arruinado una maravillosa obra de Albéniz. Escúchenla por Alirio Díaz.
For a Segovia guy, his right hand technique is spot on. The Segovia school taught Tarrega's approach which has now been revised by the Romeros. And why do some versions have that awkward pause after that chord @ 00:57?
A lot of people talk shit about Chapdelaine, and I'm not sure why. The guy does more for the instrument than many who post feeble ramblings up here. Why cut a guy up because the classical guitar lost its luster for him? As for arrogant, I've talked with the man, and he's about as far from arrogant as they come...
Wow, I would never thought of the pece sounding the way it did. I accept what everyone is saying but personally I think fair play for bringing new flavour and a different interpretation to the piece - guess thats what happens when flamenco guys play classical pieces, look at Paco de Lucia's version of the Aranjuez concerto. Im assuming this guy is flamenco anyway, by the way he plays (using thumb on higher strings + his tone). Neway, I enyoyed the performance
Strange tempo... this is a livey song but to be executed well one must have Spanish blood running thru the veins.. sorry man (constructive critiscism here)
EcuaScot1, if you knew what he was playing you would know what the others are saying... he is misrepresenting the classical music that he is pushing out of the strings on that guitar. His demeanor is arrogant and presumptuous. If he doesn't like the way it is written he should not play it, and create his own music to brush his hair to.
I'm very familiar with this piece on the piano, as well as most Spanish piano pieces transcripted for guitar. I wish I had enough hair left to be as arrogant as he, but alas God blessed me with MPB and a knack for the piano instead of the guitar. So he took a few liberties, but I still enjoyed it.
If this guy would play delightfully if he ever chose to use his abilities to serve Music. Sadly, he seems to have chosen to have music serve his ego instead.

The poor man is in limbo, a mediocre classical cat and an average steel string player. I can't listen to him very long.

un buen guitarrista pero se nota que esto no es lo suyo, suena frio sin sentimiento ni tempo, le falta sangre española para tocar esto..

Just what we need, another angst ridden classical guitarist with a pierced ear. The hanging wires are a nice touch.
