Compared to Union Square, valley fair is nothing. Up here in the city, you run into people of all kinds, some good, some bad. At valley fair the only things you'll run into are teenage mallrats and baby strollers, lol.
I went to SJSU in 1989-94 and saw the final product; but I remember that Stevens Creek Plaza from childhood when my mom went shopping. I'm from Hayward now in Las Vegas. Those valleyfair balls also adorned Bayfair Mall in San Leandro before THEY renovated to what they are now. Thanks so much for this footage.
Great stuff! The opening shot of the fifties era part shows the landmark Valley Fair balls, as it first sat parallel to Stevens creek Road. As the camera moves back, the giant Ferris wheel is clearly seen hovering over Macy's. Very rare footage! Click on my screen name too see more classis fifties footage of the shopping center.
Thanks for posting this. But what would really be cool is for someone to post film or home movies of Valley Fair in it's hey-day (1960s, 1970s). I wonder if any such film exists out there.
