@Pepsifx357 Copy all DLL of Windows in folder of wine. If you have Windows in DVD, you can install in VM and copy the DLL to run all application of Windows in Linux.
and how is the performance on linux instead of using windows? thats the really big question here. are there any performance drop? specially thinking of rendering and larger scenes in viewport
Hello what is the THEME or graphics effects used in this Linux I'm also using ubuntu for all may work and now I use ubuntu for CNC milling machine with EMC2 . Linux and FreeBSD is the best choice
The only 2 programs that get me stuck on Windows is Tecent QQ, and of course, Autodesk Inventor... but some day, I hope there will be an open source CAD program like inventor for linux. Otherwise, I would use Linux every day, I have an old Dell desktop that runs Ubuntu, it runs well.
@novomlinski It is not quite good to compare two different ways of releasing Linux distributions.
Ubuntu Has LTS releases and regular releases. Arch is great but it is rolling distro etc. Both have their pluses and minuses but personally I feel most people enjoy stability more then latest and gratest testing.
yes ofcaurse I agree with you...But I am a person that doesnt like to use things that most people do,so i try other things & i've found arch to be more stable
But I very much doubt that Arch is anywhere near word "stable". it is my impression that you can not possibly give payed upport for such a rolling released distribution as Arch.
Ubuntu LTS is made every few Years and that is done after multiple stable releases in meantime.
Arch is great if you want to experiment with newest and testing, But it mostly is not even made for any kinfd of stability in mind.

That wavy window feature is so useful for all my CAD related work.
You can almost see this news on the Onion:
***Area engineer uses the wobbly window feature to model a flying car***
Area engineer Bill used the wobbly window feature in XGL to simulate how a flying car would perform under extreme wind turbulence. "I had no idea whether the flying car I was modeling in AutoCAD would be able to take care of the high wind turbulence, thanks to the wobbly window feature now I know" said, Bill.
@kekojeep I think the video was awesome, i am new to the idea of having a choice for OS, this is great to know that you can run ACAD on linux. is there anything special you have to do? aside from getting linux? can you just do a standard install of cad on linux? where would i go to find more info on this?
@prashantpawar Good news everyone! college grads with a semester of engineering enjoy autocad on ms windows rather than looking into more powerful alternatives such as Pro-E on Opensolaris or Bricscad on Linux and are Ok with mediocritivity rather than Compositing Amazingness that puts more fun into graphical computing
cara, como vc fez pra instalar o autocad no umbutu?? jah tentei de várias formas mas não obtive sucesso.. ah, vc tmb pode dizer como vc colocou esses efeitos??? grato
well the video was posted in 2006 so its going to be the 2005 version, but since 2006 Linux has made huge advancements so i can easily see any version of autocad running on any Linux distro
Man that is some nice customization w/ Ubuntu!..I don't belive my system would run that smooth with all the options "checked" lol...and for the others that posted about cad and linux... just go into synaptic i think w/ ubunut its System>Administration>synaptic packet mananger and search "Qcad" it shoudl be in the repos...good luck!! Nice post man,
ohhhhhhhhh, this is is ama.... is a crap, yes autocad runs in linux but its imposible working, only autocad 2000 works (50% and slow) realy the commands are realy slow, yes the video shows a fluid movement but whe you try to draw line by commands the program is realy slow.
I can't decide what's more nauseating -- the teen-trash-background noise or the pointless wobbling and shivering effects that you have added.
I wonder how well does AutoCAD work in linux with a large file, as opposed to a single vehicle block file ??
does anyone have a current version of AutoCAD working yet without resorting to VMWare, ie. 2012 ??

So, it DOES work.
