Interesting documentary. Rome, Italy and Croatia have cats all over, too. Is spaying and neutering more humane than this? The animal hasn't consented. There are so many around partly because people feed them.
Perhaps "Tulsa" was too far-gone or the situation was more complicated, but I was upset that Tulsa was put to sleep. We took in an adult stray that weighed 2.4 kg and was essentially skin and bones. The vet wouldn't guarantee the cat's survival, but survive & thrive he did. He got a 2nd lease on life & we got the love of a very sweet, gentle cat . TLC & time heals.
The people who are posting about hating humans is just beyond me. You are posting to humans. What gives?
It seems most people are too concerned with how big their house is, their big screen tv, their fancy cars and their cell phones to worry about more important issues like this and our environment.
@SweetyVeggie it should be illegal to put down healthy dogs and cats, you can neuter and spay milions of cats but still there wull be stray or homeless cats in the world, you cant neuter all of them if you dont want them to disappear from earth, killing healthy animals is the real cruelty.in some european countries its just illegal.
Three hundred dollars to spad a cat. Cat licence, $60 gee why are cats on the street you tell me. They are now making a problem, to make a bigger one. Look at the reasons and you will find the soultion. How much revenue is going back to soulve the problem or programs?
ok, I have to ask. Why is there such an overpopulation of rats in the subways while at the same time there is an overpopulation of cats? I know they're about the same size but they could just hunt the pups while enforcing a no feeding policy.
@AliceDeMino they need more than that. I think for a couple of years they need to outlaw cat breeding mills and ban selling cats in pet shops. Harsh, but necessary. If people want a cat they can take in a stray.
OMG I am pathetic. This just made me cry.... I can't watch things like this without thinking about how it was very nearly my cat in this situation....
@AJToad I adopted 3 cats, one from a pet store at 8 weeks, then 2 at 5 months from annex cat rescue, I see cats in my building and neighbourhood all the time that don't have loving homes. my cat family are happy but if I got the ok to bring in another I would. crazy cat lady with 3 cats some of my friends and family call me but they need food , and love and health care just like anyone else
I have only seen alot of ferals cats when I was in Montreal, I didn't see many in Toronto. I have 3 cats at home all are neutered and spayed my heart would love to take in more but my finances can only support the 3 I have.
@GerryCosmo Hi Gerry, I am the director of the Puerto Rican documentary 100,000. I look forward to meet you at the Blue Planet Film Festival. We have very similar documentaries. Ours is about the overpopulation of dogs in the streets of Puerto Rico.
Not just an issue in Canada - sadly going on everywhere. This needs addressing, the problem needs to be taken seriously and this documentry will certainly help spread the message. Too many animals suffering because of humans lack of education and information ! From someone who has been involved in world wide spay/neuter & release programs - I know there is no need to kill these animals ..... this humane control of stray and feral cats along with proper education and legislation will safe them.
I have build my home into a cat sanctuary and now have around 160 cat all have been spayed and neutered. My hopes are to build a bigger sanctuary and resue many more that are suffering in colonies. I have 2 inventions and hope to make enough to do what I can. This problem is at its worst when people are losing their homes and leaving there pets to fight for lives to live.
Thanks for putting this up. Year after year city council overlooks ths unwanted pet crisis and it just gets bigger. IWhen you contact them they just make faulse promises but they don't really care at all. Hopefully airing this show will help raise the issue and motivate them to do something.
Did anyone notice that they omitted the name of the shelter that kills these cats three times a week. It is Hamilton Animal Control, and everyone in the rescue community knows what is going on. Cats are left to suffer with horrible infections and illness because afterall, they are going to be put down. They kill mothers and kittens by the dozens. Call the manager, Paul Buckle, and complain. They made a change in Calgary. Why do we put up with this in Ontario?
Thank you for this. As a feral cat advocate and president of a local feline rescue, 5 years now...it doesn't get any easier. TNR is a wonderful thing, but it's not cheap even with a "discount" from the vets. Heart breaking but I am so happy that this documentary was made, I hope that it will be shown more than once on our local stations, perhaps even in schools....I would like to be able to purchase this on DVD, show our town council....
London, Ontario has the same problem. I have 5 cats now, all rescues, and I have saved litters of kittens as well. None of the shelters here will take cats, except the one that puts them down. I also feed at least 5 ferals and since I live in a poor area half my neighbors don't spay or neuter or even feed their cats, so I feed them too. The city is no help and I have seen Animal Control, they are rude, uncaring and the cats are just waiting to die in horrible conditions. It breaks my heart.
I also could barely get through the trailer without crying. I volunteer for a couple of rescue groups, and it breaks my heart to see these beautiful animals end up in such horrid conditions. I help feed a feral colony, and I foster cats and have 6 of my own. If only people would be responsible and compassionate pet owners and not treat their cats as just a thing you can throw away when you've had enough.
It's a very sad comment on our society when we treat G-d's creatures so poorly.
I saw this last night at the Royal Cinema in Toronto and it truly is a moving, sometimes heart wrenching and eye opening doc. It ultimately offeres simple positive solutions to unknown crisis in the GTA and beyond. Please take an hour and watch Friday Oct. 9th on Global at 8PM EST (7PM Praries)
family members of mine, go & out & feed the feral cats, 1 pays to have them fixed, she loves them that much as i do, i have a cat that comes to my door everynight, if someone owns it i dont understand for the life of me why themy would leave it out all night, i have cats of my own, I will continue to feed it, and when winter comes if i have to, i will bring it in before i let it freeze, no animal deserves to be treated badly. please help these beautiful animals.
Another thing that we need to do as a society, is to pressure the local government to offer free spaying and neutering programs for pets, plus a capture, spay or neuter and release program for ferals, but most important, put a small tax on pets that goes directly into funding the care of animals at shelters for when people decide that no longer can care for the animals! At least that way all of them can be looked after until they hopefully find new homes.
People used to drop off their unwanted cats at my dad's friend's property in Markham. For three summers I had to gather all the kittens, tame them down, take them to pet shops so they could have homes. With the mothers I'd box trap them, take them to the vet, get them spayed, and then re-release them to live as ferals. I also used to help out at the Humane Society giving food and water to the small animals and also the cats in the sick ward.
So sad! I volunteer at a cat rescue. Pet Smart, Kennedy Commons, Scarborough, Ontario. I have come across ignorant pet owners who will not neuter their cats and then they want us to take in their kittens. We have had people drop them off in front of the store before the store opens, Some are really bold and will bring them in cloth bags and drop them in the isles of the store.
I don't think there will be an ending to the over population of felines.
Watch the entire film tonight on Global @ 8pm MeOnYT...your broken heart will likely be transformed into action and grow and grow. You can help them by becoming their voices.
People need to see this doc. because it shows the truth, rather that a 30 sec news sound bit that never really paints the true picture of what is currently going on in regards to the the pet overpopulation crisis!
Wow I can't wait to see the whole movie. But I will need at least 3 boxes of kleenex. Thank you for delving into this story. The movie sounds and looks great.

fucking humans they are the ones that are overpopulated
They should be locked up in cages
They should Die a Horrible death
Why not give some homeless cat to a child who loves cats?
This is the reason I hate humans. If you dislike this comment your a Christian
Why? You know why
