well Liviu is romanian and Michael Rabin was from romanian descent so no wonder they are both great (btw in case you don't know romanian violonist are among the best in the world )
Very powerful bowing & a deep, rich tone from this wonderful violinist who, in my opinion, out classes Joshua Bell who prefers to play in black pajamas while making funny faces with arrogance. Wieniawski was a true romantic & Prunaru plays this concerto with true romanticism. Every note is clear, precise, distinct. From 5:30 on comes the hard part. Michael Rabin still owns this piece, but I'm very impressed with how Prunaru also plays it. Bravo!
thanks so much for the fwd. this is truly a hideously diff piece to play and yet not only does mr prunaru make it look easy he puts over a whole lot of passion and feeling on top
He is awesomely brilliant. It's really rare nowadays to find a musician with such personality. Plus, his nice sound and great intonation, warm and passionate sound make him an excellent violin player. Congrats.
Wonderful!! One of the most difficult concerti in the repertoire, excellently performed - such command, drama, warmth and passion. You have a bright future!!
This guy is very talented. His technique is marvelous and his sound is wonderfully resonant. I can't even imagine playing those opening tenths in tune. Fabulous!
Great perfomance, Liviu is a great virtuoso. Congratulations. For those who like this Wieniawski concerto, listen also to the Gil Shaham's recording. Another great performance.
totally agree, i just stumbled across this song by chance and I'm disappointed that it's rarely performed by major solo artists, at least where I live in. I think I'm able to hear the Rach 3 piano concerto at least once a year, but even that is hard to come by. Rach 2 is more popular.
This is not only a very phantastic violin playing, but the interpretation is big an musical, by listening you even forget that it is so bloody difficoult. Bravo!
what did you say about Rabin? not more colour? this recording of rabin is actually the Best recording ever, and i wish every Violinist to play only the quarter good this piece as rabin did. Rabin was the King. But Prunaru is very good, but we cant compare to rabin.Lets be serios please.
Sorry but You not understand my word's , try to understand correct. I am not compare Mr. Rabin with Mr. Prunaru I said I like mroe Pikaisen's playing. Mr. Rabin play to fast but very good. Well, I suggest you search *Victor Pikaisen Wieniawski* and listen his playing
I agree..it is wonderful, I love this piece anyway..I scarcely noticed the coughers until YOU MENTIONED IT..LOL, I was so focused on the violin, I can tune it out...he has got some great hands.
no, everybody have some mistakes but each person play like him. Mr. Liviu too, hi play this concerto in his style, Mr. Rabin play in his style and Mr. Pikaisen play in his style. I suggest you listen Mr. Pisakisen's palying
BRAVO!
stunning virtuosity! love the vibrato - recalls that of Heifetz and Kogan, although Mr. Prunaru's bow arm is held comparatively higher than either of the aforementioned..
i would highly recommend monty bloom's video of this piece. yes, the wolf in the background may be distracting, but the wolf clearly is an indication of charles castleman's studio, who has created many badasses.
don't get me wrong, this performance is stunning, but monty's is of an era that many string players has forgotten about...the golden age of violinists.
Very clean harmonics 3:11-12 and 3:18-19, I liked it! It took me so long to figure out those double harmonics...I still have troubles at the moment...
yeah, seriously. pages of technical workout and it all pales before a couple of measures of harmonics. Of course he has a pretty nice instrument to work with
He's the best violin I've ever heard!! I sing in the National Children Choire of the Netherlands, and we we have had an concert with the KCO. I am on the picture with liviu!! He's FABULOUS!!
It's incredible how I had observed that he has the musicality and demeanor of a fine concertmaster, and lo and behold I find out that he's the concertmaster of the Royal Concertgebouw...!
Very Lyric!!I listened just before with I.Perlman and I was..boring to listen;
But Here you don't let your attention away...!

If Liviu is genius then i am afraid you will not be able to describe Rabin's performance of this concerto.

yes but I like more Boris Goldstein 2nd and 3rd V. Pikaisen about 1st movement. Rabin play good but in his playing not more color and quality.
