420chav, please don't put Stevie Ray Vaughan and Eric Clapton in the same sentence, let alone compare the two. Clapton has done absolutely norhing worthy of being in any way compared with Vaughan. He may be the most overrated man in the business. Whereas Vaughan may very well have been better than his own hero Hendrix, and is easily the greatest blues player rhe world has ever known.
This is the man that made me want to learn guitar. Jimmy made me love it, Clapton made me listen. This man though has always been the stumbling block to my actually getting one and learning cause I will always hear his soul and know I will never be as good. F it, I'm buying one tomorrow cause I think Stevie just told me "Brother, your soul is yours and mine is mine. Play what you feel."
stevie is a god! no one will ever be as good as him, all his emetions come out through his guitar, you can experience every emotion by listening to one of his songs! he is unbelievable and the greatest guitar player in the world in my eyes
Gary Moore and Stevie were well on the top of the list in this Blues genre. I prefer their covers of Hendrix songs to Hendrix, he was a bit too psychedlic for me. Eric is good yea, but if I had to buy a CD, just sayin'.
Who gives a flying fig about who is the "best"? Surely, not Stevie Ray...this was played with so much raw emotion for all of us to enjoy...sooooo, those of you who feel compelled to engage in some asinine debate about who is the "best", have at it...thank heavens it is not going to mess up my enjoyment of this gem.
If anybody knew anything about this guitar god then they would know that stevie ray vaughn himself said in interviews that he drew his inpiration from none other then jimi hendrix and eric clapton both. where i do believe that stevie is the best it truly shows how great he is by paying respect to two great icons in their own rights.enough said. RIP STEVIE forever in our hearts.
@UWHuskiesfan4life Don't lie, mate. Stevie never said he drew his inspiration from Hendrix and Clapton. IN interviews he said he was influenced by "every guitar player I ever heard" but his inspirations were in his words "my brother and the Blues". Not that it matters after all but it cracks me up how everybody tries to list his favorites as "Stevie's main influences and inspirations"

Wonderful, wonderful stuff. Tons of soul. I love songs like this one, where Stevie Ray Vaughan reigns it in, and you have time to appreciate every delicious note he plays. Fine vocals too!
What a LOSS. Just think of all the GREAT blues we have missed... Just think of all the great music that was lost to humanity. I MISS YOU, STEVIE... YOU WERE A GENIUS.
Stevie Ray never played guitar - he gave it LIFE and made it respond with the love of beautiful music - RIP in the holy land of music - what more can be said.
@strings 191 If your gonna make comments about one of the greatest to ever live you should educate your self better so you don't look like a fool. "Vaughan, who never desired formal guitar lessons or to read music, studied and played by ear." straight from wikipedia.
I wish people in the audience would appreciate the subtly of the emotion and shut up. No wonder Roger Waters ran down to the crowd and spit on some screaming punk's face after he disrupted a song performance. Control yourselves. You are in the audience as the observer not the performer so let the performers perform.
It's sad to see so many people bickering about all this. If Stevie was here he'd be sad to see how little true love we have for each other. That was and is stevie. As was jimi Hendrix. These are people who saw they had the power and opportunity they had and used it not abused it. And if anyone can say anything about anyone's guitar skills. Please show me that you can do it better first.
Dudes, plz stop comparing all these great guitarists ... they all rock. There aint noone better then the other, they are just different. They can play the same freaking song, and you can be sure each one of them will nail it, it's just the way that each of them interprets it that differs.
So plz STFU and stop ruining my day with all these nasty comments..
@iveco321 Clapton isn't worth enough to restring SRV guitar... I wouldn't even let Hendrix tune it... SRV is one of the best guitarist the world has ever seen.. Him and Page are my top 2..
@iveco321 It's so pathetic when people like you compare musicians, and a lot of times say bad things about them. It shows how little you know about music, how little you know about the blues. Tone Touch Taste Sensitivity Melody Emotion Soul Power Control Feeling Technique Purity Extraordinary Dynamic Raw Real Inspirational Original Originality Master Mastery !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What guitar player could do all this on one performance???????????? SRV
In SRV's case to say "he deserved the booze" sounds like "he deserved to live in the gutter and die there". Maybe you meant to say he had no other choice...with that family and that life. You probably know his alcoholism initially had nothing to do with the "musician’s work". He started at 7 and had every possible reason for doing so
@michael99745 no one deserves the hell that is alcohol and drug addiction. That is like saying he deserved cancer. This amazing man died clean and sober
This is the man that has inspired so many, myself included, to pick up a guitar. Performances like this one inspire me to play with one tenth the talent and emotion he had. I'm happy to try...
It was at a hifi show, of all places, that I first heard a note from SRV -- and it was this song (they were demoing Apogees or Martin Logans or some such). Blown away; haven't been the same since.
He really was a god walking among us mere mortals.
We shall not see his like again in our lifetimes...
We were lucky we had him with us at all.
SRV, thanks for sharing your genius with us. I hope you're happy and jamming it up somewhere with all the other titans and demi-gods.

@Rumplestiltskin7 and dont forget along with that soul was lots of cocaine and booze. RIP to the best

@williacjuwec
And don’t forget he kept that soul after he’d thrown out the lots of cocaine and booze (rather lots of booze and cocaine)

@5507156693 in that line of musician work you need something to take the edge off
michael99745 10 months ago
@michael99745
In SRV's case to say "he deserved the booze" sounds like "he deserved to live in the gutter and die there". Maybe you meant to say he had no other choice...with that family and that life. You probably know his alcoholism initially had nothing to do with the "musician’s work". He started at 7 and had every possible reason for doing so
5507156693 10 months ago 2
@williacjuwec all the stress and hell he want through he deserved the booze
michael99745 10 months ago
@michael99745 no one deserves the hell that is alcohol and drug addiction. That is like saying he deserved cancer. This amazing man died clean and sober
1984jlj 9 months ago
@1984jlj i didnt say any thing about addictions or drugs i said he needed something to take the edge off big difference there.
