@TheMrCokeCola Nope, not for the front kick. That's a push kick. You can aim a kick like this at an opponent who's leaning forward, to the gut, the knee cap, or the jaw/nose, depending on their position.
@TheMrCokeCola A push kick pushes out at your opponent, like a jab. In muay thai it's called a teep, I think in taekwondo some call it the stomp kick. The front kick, on the other hand, kicks upward, like an uppercut. It snaps up into someone's gut, groin, knee, or face.

@kukenimunnen whats your point? films are for entertainment iv only been doing TKD for 2 years but im very passionate about it and iv learnt enough to know what TKD is translated to and im sure actually doing the martial art gives you much more knowledge then just watching martial art films
@kukenimunnen either because it comes down to the individual not just the martial art and besides a ninja's speciality is stealth they only used close combat if it was nessecery and it was as quick as possible and if you dont belive it comes down to the individual then you must think 2 people who do the same style must be equal right?

@kukenimunnen haha jealous over an outdated style and a TKD practioner who used both traditional and modern TKD then weapon using weapons wouldnt change the fact he wouldnt be hit and btw TKD is a modern martial art any type of ninjutsu is old so deals with different situations and a ninja so a TKd practioner would never cross paths never mind fight 1 last thing atleast i a martial art to be proud of because i know you dont
@smsjgoku I can tell, by your indignation, that this is getting on your nerve, which isn´t a good thing if you are a martial artist like me. One should be cool, calm and collected- just like a ninja.
lol i would LOVE to see people talking shit do this, except add a step. chamber up kick and hold it, chamber back and hold, put foot back down. slowly and controlled and without holding a rail or chair and without stumbling of falling.....haha
@krypekeeper i can do that and hold my leg locked out straight at chest level for about 20 seconds before getting cramp in the old iliopsoas. can't do it at head level yet...only a couple of seconds at head level.
anyways, conjure up something a bit more challenging. what you described is very very easy to do. (not for beginners though i guess)
this was helpful. Started Tiger Schulman in Feb and they do things very quickly and have not broken the front kick down enough. Thanks for the input!!
That kick is surprisingly strong... I did it once in sparring and the girl I was against(this was only in the Dojang) almost went flying... and she's not that small.
That kick should include hip and foot rotation... not to mention body movement, kiap, body stance, guard and other things you can't find in this video. TKD is perfection of kicking, it is NOT supposed to be easy!
@3bepko TaeKwon Do is very rarely easy.Where the hell is the sinewave in this, anyway?!You ARE supposed to bend your knee slightly wile kicking-my instructor is 5th deg. black belt and would have a go at me if I kicked like this.
@3bepko A front kick or as I call that kick a Thrust kick would be a totally different kick if you included hip and foot rotation. a round house, hook kick, crescent kick, ect. would be the ones you would need hip and foot rotation. Also TKD is "foot hand way", not" perfection of kicking". Its 70% kicks 30% hand.
If you kick to the head, its okay to kick with the ball of the foot. But if you kick to the bode or the legs, its better to use your whole foot and aim with your heel. Why? Because a body kick aims not for a knockout by shaking the opponents head but to deliver as much power as possible to the body. So you dont kick like aiming at a small target (head) but you kick like you are kicking in a door (you are kicking trough the opponent). That will do for follow ups
The reason he keeps his leg straight is: clearly for show. It looks better.
But, as for selft protection and kicking power, a slight bend to the standing leg is okay. Why? because there is a concept of kinetic linking. Even if its a snapping kick, you have to put your bodyweight behind it for the splitsecond of impact. if the standing leg remains stiff, there can be no hipmovement, no linking, no bodyweight => no effect.
Master lambarda do not listen to these people.your kick is right. my instructor master S.K Yoo is a sixth dan black belt and he teaches us exavtly like this.we do things differently in my dojang because he was a ballroom dancer and we incorperate some of the foot work in dance into our moves. I am also a purple belt and have been studying these kick.we are taught almost all of them except for cresent kick.i learned the spinning cresent kick on my own and am fairly good at it
@phantomtrucks56 3rd.I'm a red ends and can kick better than this for God's sake, although I could probably put more weight behind it,as he looks lighter than me.
@GinjaNinja1994 Sure you can put more power to this kick, if you bend your body forward.. I don't say this guy is bad, but this video is too flighty. Of course he could do better if he wanted ;) I do TKD for many years now
Are you for real? Don't pay any attention to this guy...!Bend your leg as it is your supporting leg. The better grounded you are the stronger the kick. Unless you are a sport TKD person that is looking to win by tap rather than KO...Fag's.....
He tells the viewer to keep their leg straight, yet an experienced opponent may perform a stomp to the kicker's taut knee, hyper-extending the leg and snapping it. If the leg was bent during kick execution, then then it is stomped oat, it would simply bend straight, and if the kicker is fast, they may be able to bend in again quickly. Just my thoughts.
great way to develop this kick for power is to get your knee up and try to shoot your heel upward. Aim like your kicking with your heel up makes a big difference
this kick is all about stretching (to not injure your lower back and to deliver power through snap). Also consciously keep other heal comfortably planted - if U R lifting heal - U R over-reaching (stretch more). This guy's guard is weak - imagine kick delivered in wrist area .. no stopping quality to his too close and too weak arm stance. Injure himself with his own arms. I'd deliver Inside outside crescent right into his wrist area. Keep wrists strong (xrcize) and frthr from body. Chumbi!
it all depends on wear u put urknee. if u lift ur knee rly high thats wear ur foot will go, barley lift ur knee at all then ur foot want go high att all
Wrists are bent back to far, thumbs are sticking out, forearms are in to close, and I've always found this kick to do better when driving it out. Not swinging out unless your aiming for the chin. It works well driving through the mid section. But I'm thinking of the rear leg front kick though. So my bad. Also I don't know why you wouldn't want your base leg bent at the knee. What happens if when he is doing this kick someone actually kicks him in the knee? not very well done.
I thought a guard was supposed to block hits to your face, not your nipple rings... AND HOLY SHIT your fists look like you're trying not to smudge your nail polish! PLEASE, don't completely demonstrate your misunderstanding of TKD with a nonsense youtube video.
since i cant do the front kick because of my old studio & that im a black belt. now my front kick sucks. so my master told my mom to make me wear high heels& im really going to do it :D
the frond kick is a defence kick so if some asshole wants to att you then you just stretch you leg he walks in to it, its only painfull when you place a frontkick in the solar plexus
right, so it is kind of like a slap you'd say,its an effective way to actually start a combo, plus it can be used to stop an opponent coming straight at you from the front, plus you can change it a little and just leave your foot up straight, and so your opponent's face will run into your foot.
maybe not power but i can tell u are inexperianced. its enough speed if u catch some1 under the chin it wil stun them for a tiny bit (depending on the size of the opponent) which alows u to use another technique
I front kick cn appear that way if your standing on the spot demonstrating the technique. In reality any front kick is delivered while moving, which of course lends itself to weight and speed behinf the technique increasing power. Funny thing is the front kick is the same whether it be from tkd, karate, ninjutsu....there really is no difference when your in a scrap with someone. :) peace.
The front kick can be done a few ways, but you have to remember it is a kick that requires little flexibility and is meant for mid-body to grown attacks. The thing I dislike about this vid is that the guy makes it look so weak, when it is a very effective kick. When you're kicking to the head you will want to use the bottom part of your hill, not the ball of your foot. Besides, It hurts more when you have on sneakers.
mcthelight: Are you stating that you are supposed to point your toes down or saying that he is pointing his toes down?
I am an assistant instructor of Choi Kwang Do and have NEVER heard of pointing your toes down to perform a front kick. If you kick someone in the chest pointing your toes down you will surely break the toes or damage the joints...point toes up.
this is a bad front kick, i'm not dissing but you point your toes down for front kick. These kind of kicks should be taught face to face because if not done properly it can sprain or break the toes of the user...it is effective, but learn from an instructor if thinking about doing tae kwon do =]
I don't like this front kick. It lacks power and application because of the upward motion. The whole point of striking is to use the energy of your whole body yet here only the leg is used.
hmm... usually the kick is most effective to the body, and keep your back foot planted? I never heard that before, usually you're told to come up on the ball of your foot
this is actually a good kick when ur sparring because if someone starts to rush up to with punches u just throw the front kick at their stomach keeps them away and it hurts a lot
i've got this kick in my balls before from a guy twice my size and strength
i guess this is ITF and not WTF cuz WTF uses the top of the foot and not the 'ball' of the foot. what i know ball of the foot is KARATE style. correct me if im wrong cuz thats why i learned in Malaysia
Note: front snap kick in self defense is ultimately useful when directed at the low section target (balls), using the point of the shoe or the instep. in sparring...doesn't happen, front pushing kick ;) for self defense point of shoe is devastating for right under the chin also ^^
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
martila arts are ineffective in the way that they dont deal wiith real life situation but flips and kick you see on cartoon shows and movies plus it does matter on power level if u cant hit them hard enough for them budge (which is possible) then your screwed
Actually, you can execute a front kick with the instep as well. The ball of the foot is for penetrating kicks and the instep is for softer targets (ie groin or stomach if they are doubled over).
This is very good. I am a TKD practitioner myself. 1st dan black belt. Is there any way that you could help me refresh my memory with every kick I should know, in order? I would be truly appreciative. Thanks! I don't mean it has to be in vid format, but maybe just the names in mssg.
my master says front kick hits the top of the front, not bottom. which way is correct?

hmm... usually the kick is most effective to the body, and keep your back foot planted? I never heard that before, usually you're told to come up on the ball of your foot
uckushtar 2 years ago
this is actually a good kick when ur sparring because if someone starts to rush up to with punches u just throw the front kick at their stomach keeps them away and it hurts a lot
i've got this kick in my balls before from a guy twice my size and strength

i guess this is ITF and not WTF cuz WTF uses the top of the foot and not the 'ball' of the foot. what i know ball of the foot is KARATE style. correct me if im wrong cuz thats why i learned in Malaysia
ceyhan49 2 years ago
Yeah, In ITF we use the ball of the foot because its easier to kick a target in front of us.
Jugurtti1000 2 years ago
I wished all taekwondo is the same ^.^ :D
ceyhan49 2 years ago
this is absolutely not ITF.
Note: front snap kick in self defense is ultimately useful when directed at the low section target (balls), using the point of the shoe or the instep. in sparring...doesn't happen, front pushing kick ;) for self defense point of shoe is devastating for right under the chin also ^^

try the kick in slow motion and hold it for 5 seconds. when u can do that, you're one fifth to mastering it.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
martila arts are ineffective in the way that they dont deal wiith real life situation but flips and kick you see on cartoon shows and movies plus it does matter on power level if u cant hit them hard enough for them budge (which is possible) then your screwed

lol.. you're funny dude, for a second you almost made me believe you were serious.

Strength has little to do with the power equation.

oh the power of hiding behind a computer
seouljah4yu 3 years ago 29
@seouljah4yu It's acutally quite hard to hide behind a computer, you must be pretty flexible unless it's a big computer.

if you kick the groin it could be better to use the top of your foot
also the way i learned the stance his guard is a bit close to his body. i could be wrong or the angle could make it look closer than it is
cavepanther 3 years ago
Actually, you can execute a front kick with the instep as well. The ball of the foot is for penetrating kicks and the instep is for softer targets (ie groin or stomach if they are doubled over).
justin811j 3 years ago
nice speech but your performance and technquics need to be improved, poor-looking front kick by the way

the kick swings straight up, where is the power?
willgrove 3 years ago
This is also known as the snap kick. That is, it is meant to be very fast. Snap! Of course we all know that with speed comes power.
EroVulgaro 3 years ago
no we all know that speed x strength = power.
willgrove 3 years ago
This is very good. I am a TKD practitioner myself. 1st dan black belt. Is there any way that you could help me refresh my memory with every kick I should know, in order? I would be truly appreciative. Thanks! I don't mean it has to be in vid format, but maybe just the names in mssg.
