They made it even tougher to get away from 'em in MK7. in the GC, DS, and Wii Mario Kart games, you could avoid them by going into cannons. now, that doesnt work because the cannons were replaced by glider sections. that means mushrooms are pretty much the only way out of that crap.

Actually the mushroom way is the easiest since to avoid the blue shell you must either use a item that allow you to do this (star, bullet bill, mushroom) or enter a booster rocket at the exact time the shell is going to hit.

I've done this before but the only sad part is there aren't many scenarios where you would be in 1st place with a red shroom well unless it was at the beginning of the match or if you passed everybody, got a great lead and had a shroom to spare which i doubt you would have. I'm pretty sure these are harder to dodge in Mario Kart: Double Dash because Spiny Shells/Blue Shells do not aim down when about to hit you and will not hit the ground if you boost away from them...

But this kinda works in the Wii version. :P

There are actually SEVERAL ways to dodge spinies, but most are situational.

1) the mushroom (above vid)

2) if the spiny is above you when you are coming down from a ramp, thrwo the banana back.

It'll hit the spiny, and destroy it, with you being unharmed.

I've only managed #2 once.

3) Spinies will vanish if you go through a cannon when they are approaching.

Done this one several times.

4) the Yellow Spark Mini-Turbo (only usable by karts) can work, just like the mushroom. (150cc)

You just need to be lucky to get the mushroom in 1st place. Getting a mushroom in 1st place is extremely rare. So I'm thinking if you're in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th to 12th place, you might be able to get it frequently.

@oqal you can either get really lucky or if you're good you can save that item and try to get to first place without using it. I've done it and I'm sure more than hal the world that plays mario kart has done it too. You just need skill, and little bit of luck.

I have done that off of a drift boost but you have to be damn lucky to be drifting while the shell comes, i saw it so i held my drift slightly longer and then just got away, it its so hard to get right though as i have tried it a couple of times after and didn't get it right.
