but that the soul of Pink Floyd! what else is!? go to Lisbon to eat a nice pastel de nata a good port wine and everything else will actually have shit
This song holds so many memories and I'v only just heard it 4 the second time in my life. What a soft but powerful song... Well done Syd Barrett..... Missed by many.
What is with the Pink Floyd post-Syd-era bashing? You guys disappoint me. I love Syd and believe like you, that he WAS Pink Floyd and if it weren't for him, they wouldn't be what they are today. But c'mon. Saying that Floyd died the second they defecated over Syd and "stole" his band from him? That's going too far. I love this band with and without Syd. You should be the same. What is with the disrespect? I understand the other guys. Have you met an insane person like Syd before?
@bigtig9 Thank you for informing me on that. Yes, it seems to me I've heard how the Pink Floyd guys never really gave up on helping him. But what I still don't know and haven't had anybody tell me yet is whether or not Syd pawned his guitar and/or stopped playing privately.
Martyhuana1, me too... I have never prescribed to the popular theory that it was simply a regardeless, irresponsable use of drugs that sent Syd over. The world may never know. Others in the same boat, Roky Erickson, Brian Wilson and Bob Dobbs.
@gordonfreeman90 I agree! Things happen for a reason! I enjoy all their music! Gilmour and Barrett were completely different guitar players. I just like them all for their contributions to my favorite music
Are the hand drums in the original, or is this some remaster/modified version? I never noticed them before. Very cool. I'd love to know exactly who was playing with Syd on these. Are these the people from the Soft Machine (Kevin Ayers on dums, perhaps)?
I love Syd and The other Floyd members. Making comments like that are partial truths. I read the history of their youths. Very interesting Gilmour was the first to like blues and was always a better guitar player. It would"ve been cool to have a 5 man band from the start and still be here together today!
@bullfury19 Barrett + Gilmour + Waters: too much genius, too many showmen. They would have probably exploded after a couple of discs, in my opinion. Mason and Wright were great musicians and humble people, but these three surely not
@zincalloy1 i love syd floyd and his solo carreer even more but thats a stupid statement i think they are better without him but still i love the early stuff that was what got me into the rest of it.
@zincalloy1 I don't agree actually: the first Floyds were like "Syd Barrett and the Pink Floyd". Great music, great albums. But then in the "Gilmour age" they reinvented themselves and produced fucking masterpieces (ever heard about "The Dark Side Of The Moon", "The Wall" or "Wish you were here", for example?). So, what I'm trying to say is that Barrett is probably my favourite songwriter of all time, but that the Pink Floyd are something that even Barrett couldn't stop
@simontja I agree. That's for sure :) What I was trying to say was that the second age of the Floyds could be seen as a brand new band, in terms of music and style. They were true geniuses. And Barrett started this phenomenal band. And gave them a reason to exist.
(Just to be clear, I'm a huge fan of Syd. I think he's one of the greatest and most underrated-forgotten geniuses of rock and roll. I own and love his entire discography)
He was no Brian Wilson...

@GordonFreeman90 Syd Barrett inspired Pink Floyd. Without a Syd Barret there would never be a Gilmour age.

@zincalloy1 not so sure..
david gilmour topped the band over 100% with his lyrics and musical skill
and of course Syd was a genial brain too!
phreaker92 3 months ago
@zincalloy1 i actually think david gilmour is a better musician than syd. not to take any credit of syd because hes good too.
but i think pink floyd has nicer songs with david gilmour. just my opinion
