@caribugoingcrazy He makes odd facial expressions much like any other virtuoso does when they are executing the absolute limits of their talents. I don't see any humor in it, only a man completely overcome by the beauty of his labor, but to each his own...
Bach a giant ??? I think he was looking small, maybe his music was highly considered and elevates the soul; but he was not a giant; he wrote several compositions for little orchestras, but will never feel as, for example, giants composers as i don't know, like G.Malher or 9th symphony by Beethoven ambitions and i forget many other examples of masses of people performing in orchestral manoeuvres by giants!! Germans were giants to me !
I think Bach was a giant and I believe many regard him as such. Maybe you aren't familiar with the enormous scope of his compositions. When I was a child taking piano lessons, I began to study his keyboard works. The more I learned over the years, the more I was amazed by their beauty and almost mathematical complexity. Your last sentence seems to indicate you aren't aware that Bach was German also. Germany can certainly claim credit for many musical giants.
@edogawaranpo Thank you for reply. I know Bach and pay perticular attention to his work a decade ago when i was on guitar tabs to learn about cause it was no obvious to catch free his works !! I still consider him as a polyphonic giant; fugue; and counterpoint great composer ! It seems that all his life was a laborious task to achieve what we could call, an unaffordable savant music score. But Bach, even if his music is so called genius, was, i hope to, a human and affordable man with children
karl's bach is of d Teutonic heavyweight, traditional school but great as it was it's a little stodgy when put alomgside more 'modern' and liberating prfms.from gardiner, rilling, harnoncourt et al.
As in if you can do ancient Greek you must have gone to a British public school. If you didn't go to public school you must be a choral musician who was told the wrong translation (it's have mercy not show.)
@maxjamesorgans None of the above. I am Greek and tried to translate the phrase from Greek to English. I used the wrong verb because in Greek it is "show mercy" not "have".
As a piano an' vocal student I know that Bach was a serious composer from playin' his Tocatta in D minor, inventions, part of his suites, and, attempting to sing his "Crown Him King of Kings" when I trained as a tenor, but listenin' to this has me blown away.
Agree totally. Unfortunately it's quite rare to see someone understanding Bach's great music as he did. also the Passions with Richter are just awesome.
That conductor.... Wow. Am I the only one who finds myself laughing hysterically every time I watch this video?

Kyrie Eleison means Lord/Sir show mercy, in Greek.

Or, better, not "show mercy", but " have mercy(upon us)" from Greek: " Kyrie, eleeson hemas" (of course in transcription!)
MarcinBrys 2 years ago
Wouldn't it be in latin though?
bobmusick 2 years ago
greek is prior to latin.

Thank you! Whatever can be said about the tempi in these videos, I would give everything to sing with a conductor like this. Clear, steady. A master.
