is this the dog & butterfly tour, if so i was at their Heart/Firefall show in hollywood, Fla.(sportatorium) was one of the best shows i have ever been to..Firefall wanted to headline, & they were big, but not near as big as Heart..this was their prime time in the business, right after the release of Dog & Butterfly.
when I was in high school I often mistook heart songs for Rush songs admitedly she did have a Geddy Lee-like voice in this and Barracuda not very feminine.
@fucheduck you must be joking Heart & rush totally diff, music & vocals..Geddy has such a distinct voice impossible not to recognize & same with Ann Wilson..
I saw them on this tour (in Birmingham, AL). They were even wearing the same clothes. I've seen a lot of great concerts, but this was one of the best. This band can (and does) move me to tears.
70s Heart NEEDS to reunite for one more summer tour, before one of them passes away and it's all over. Put all the personal stuff behind you, get back to the music, and make your fans happy. We love you....and FORGIVE ROGER, damnit. He made a mistake. He's a MAN....we all make mistakes :-)
THERE IS NONE....NEVER WILL BE. WE WHERE LUCKY TO BE AROUND TO WITNESS HER LIVE, ESPECIALLY LIKE THIS DURING HER PRIME.....ALTHOUGH AT 60+ THIS WOMAN STILL SINGS LIKE NO OTHER WOMAN SHOULD AT HER AGE...sorry for all the caps, ...I'm just passionate about them!!!
@LiltingLyricist No kidding. I was 19 at this show at the old Cap Center in Md. I remember being blown away by their rockin show. And like most 18 and 19 year old boys left infatuated with the Wilson sisters.
@kdsnoopy1 Funny you say that since she inspired one of the better new female outlaw type country singers out there;Gretchen Wilson and I felt Gretchen totally did Ann proud on Barracuda and she explains how Heart influenced her life when she does Straight On with John Rich.
so right, because i rented the live Dreamboat Annie DVD, the new lead guitarist totally lacked...screwed up the intro to "Magic Man"...then they had to make a orchestral string arrangement for "Sing Child" (in the place of the vibratos that Roger did) go figure cos those are a freakin pain-he did those w one finger!
Is it just me, or does Ann do better with Short and Sweet songs like Kick It Out and Dreamboat Annie than she does on longer songs such as Heartless? In Heartless, Ann goes,"Ooo" for over a minute! I KNOW that the "Ooo" could have been replaced by REAL SINGING! The shorter songs don`t have the filler sounds. They just have straight up real singing. There`s no space for filler sounds on the short songs. :)
I agree that the Wilson sisters can really rock!! Hardly any better in the business I saw Heart in concert twice and both times they were fabulous!! They sound as good live as they are recorded!
@Drumguy1988 i know right? todays female *cough* "artists" have no talent at all. Theres even some stupid pop song called "this is what rock and roll looks like" and believe me itis far from what rock and roll looks like sounds like lol
the BEST rock and roll band-of ALL TIME period. I have seen Ann and Nancy in concert so many times, thru the decades -so many memories and great songs. I was thrilled when Nancy copied my hair when I saw their video (1990) "All I wanna do is Make Love to you"
I have followed this group since 1976 and being a musician myself I can tell you if you dont reinvent yourself you get stale. The early 80's were a transition period but when you have raw talent like these sisters you cant really fail no matter what direction you go.Why are they not in the R&R Hall of Fame!! SHAME, SHAME !!!
the rock and roll hall of fame don't mean ****! We all know how revolutionary Heart were up to 79, absolutely untouchable. Another band that hasn't got the nod that should is The Pretty Things. Who decides who should get merit over someone else anyway? B.S! one hell of a party though I'm sure
I was just a little kid when my uncle jeff took me to see heart and john couger in dertroit, they were still in this gypsy phase, I think it was the allies tour. Next time was the heart album wityh these dreams in regina saskatchewan. That time it was big hair and spandex> really strange transformation. Still great , it was just the times!
I have a good copy of the Little Queen promo film. Are there any "Bebe Le Strange" promo films in circulation? I know there's one around somewhere, since it was shown on the "Behind the Music" special. There's also a Largo MD 1980 Heart show around somewhere as well, but it hasn't been posted on YouTube yet.
They had no choice. They lost their direction when they fired the Fishers. The Wilsons tried their own thing with "Private Audition" and "Passionworks" and they failed. In 1983 they were playing half filled arenas on a double bill with Kansas. It was sad - I was there. Had they let the Fishers control the helm, they'd have been filling stadiums in the 1980s without having to have sold out.
Yeah true, passion works had only a couple of good songs and the production/drum sound was horrible! Then it was spandex and big hair. Still love them though!
Quote: "I love the Wilsons so much. I am just sorry for what they mutated to in the 80s. That poodle corporate rock was awful."
I agree. In that Behind the Music special on VH1, even Ann & Nancy looked back disdainfully on that time & basically said, "What were we thinking?" They got caught up in the AOR corporate rock game, and they admit it.
As for the comment about their fan base, sure it increased, but it was the wrong kind of fans -- those who only liked them for hit singles.
These were the days. Being born in Seattle wa sa great thing music wise. Seeing Heart all the time in different venues from the Moore Theatre, Paramount, Seattle Center Coliseum. The whole band was a class act.
funny thing about this song, every year on august 3rd, i find a bar on the jersey shore to celebrate...sitting in a bar in a seaside town..just because those lyrics mean so much to me

True that. Their cover of Led Zeppelin's "Rock and Roll" totally
kills-from Roger's elaborate solo to Michael's take on the drum solo
which is not too far off from John Bonham's! Such a great band back
then...
