Story behind this song. Linda was putting the album together, and wanted a Beach Boys style backup. She tried to get the BBoys, but they weren't interested. Somebody in the studio suggested calling Brian, who wasn't doing much at the time. He agreed to come into the studio, listened to the song 1 time. Walked in the booth and cut all 5 parts, front to back. No re-takes, no "cut and paste" five times straight through the song front to end.
there are some strange comments on here. who cares if linda gained weight in this clip. she can sing. want something thin then listen to the likes of today's music with britney spears and ke$ha.
who are you ppl & what is wrong with you? this is about a song & a Voice to sing it....does somebody come by you work & say "Hmmm, pretty good nurse, secretary, construction worker, but a little on the meaty side..."
@Lindawatcher ahahha NO. I love Linda, one of my all time favorite singer...perfect voice and perfect music...i follow her and her music form many years...i still know all the song but...No.I still gay.Inexorably gay! LOL
@dazzlertyler LOL LOL Well I came across a comment by a gay male in one of her You Tube videos from the late 70's- early 80's. In it he admitted that she looked soooo hot that it was converting him back to hetero. He was serious he said and I totally understand because I have always had a terrible crush on her myself. She was as sexy and cute as she was an incredible singer. SHE WAS HOT! Wow! That black hair, big brown eyes, and that VOICE! She was the perfect female singer
The only real consideration is how beautiful her voice is--not to mention all the genres of music she has mastered so well it looked easy. she's not a pop tart, has made song choices you wouldn't expect and is amazing. the only possible negative i can say is that once you've heard her sing something you don't like anyone else's version as well.
sure that you Americans are strange. Your Life TV, newspapers, books speak every second of the importance of not only paying attention to appearances and look inside themselves to find the true beauty does not stop at the appearances and other superficial platitudes like, then every time I come to hear the wonderful performance of one of the most talented singers I've ever heard, I find comments about her weight rather than her voice.....
@dazzlertyler You are among the most obese countries in the world and then judge others to be just fat? should be sympathetic. Mostly because its weight is determined by thyroid problems, not because living like most of you McDonald. Americans really love you, but you are (a majority) terribly hypocritical.
sorry for that...and of course i don't think you ALL are hypocritical...but i see only comment about fat or beauty. She is a singer.talk about voice,no face or weight...
Who really cares if she's put on weight? She has such a powerful and beautiful voice. She sings from her heart and, if she is happy, it doesn't matter how much she weighs. The emotions that she can convey is pure beauty in itself! She is one of my favorites!!!
@dannys2222 True- she started adding it on soon after 41or so. If you look at her 1986 tv appearances like on Johnny Carson... she was 40.. STILL very trim and physically fit. This is about the time she quit her fairly rigorous workout routine that she did for years.. the rest is history. In 1987 she did more TV appearances- you could see that she was starting to put on a few ... not much.. but it all added up on her little frame..soon , like here- she was really putting on the pounds!
Nicolette Larson dying by being wood-chipped to death? This is the first time I have ever heard that one! Seriously, she died by falling off of a golf cart that was being driven by Willie Nelson.
@jeffreyorich Lately the truth has come out!..... She died when a Mastadon broke through her fence in her yard in Chicago and trampled her to deat. The odds of a mammel, once thought extinct, coming into your back yard and crushing you is calculated at 7598712564789415695944 :1
this was done during the Arsenio Hall days (circa 1990) One of Rondstadt's best; it is sung with raw, heartfelt emotion in a style, few besides lr could do. Beautiful....
This song reminds me of and old friend I lost to cancer, the year after this song came out. Very sad, but so beautiful. Linda is wonderful in concert..well worth going to. I love her voice. OMG, LargeLindaR, that is one of the most tragic stories I ever heard!
I did this cocert in the early 90's- again this was a tribute to my friend mentioned below. It was a needless tree-shreader accident that makes this song so special to me......
Yes, My friend Nicolette was killed a few years ago in a freak accident. She was having a tree service cut down some dead trees in her back yard. She went back to ask them how much longer they would be when she tripped and fell head-first into the industrial shredder. By the time the operator relized what was going on.... it was too late. All that was saved was her ankles, feet, and her shoes. I have that pair of tennis shoes on my mantle as a reminder of her friendship!
@gratis99 She died of the "tree-shreader incident" Linda has the shoes on her mantle- they were all that was left by the time the man shut it off. I have this on good source and verified
I agree she looks kind of wiped out here. I realize this is a sad sond and she tends to get into the feeling of the song- but she still looks tired and bumed to me?? Maybe she just needs a hug? grin I offer my services. Me and every other red-blooded man in America grin
Maybe she did not feel good? She still did an excellant job as usual. Beautifull song!!
You are probably right. It is amazing that she never married I have heard her interviewed several times and she jokes about her not being able to keep a long-term relationship going. She is basically ok with it it seems- but at times she seems kind of sad. It is a shame because she seems like a very sweet person- if somewhat strong-willed.
Just speculating, but she sang this at the tribute of her friend Nicolette Larsen, Russ Kunkel's wife. Nicci was her roommate, and Linda is the godmother of her daughter. Could she be thinking of her friend?
This is a bittersweet song, basically pretty sad. She sings it with true feelings. I can't see how she could have come across any other way. One of my favorite LR songs, btw.
Beautiful!

This nonsense that this song was written about Nicolette Larson and Nicolette dying in a tree-shredder is about the silliest thing I have ever read.
The song Adios was published and written in '81, while Ms. Larson died in '97.
Whoever believes this nonsensical version of Ms. Larson's death should also send me $1,000.00 immediately so you too can become a millionaire!
