  • Every time I see a YT video titled "....the right way" it turns out to be the absolute wrong way.

  • this actually takes the space away that the decking needs to expand

  • It looks good , but what happens when the decking wants to expand beyond the installation point? Composite expands with heat and wood with moisture.

  • Bullshit, especially if your using treated deck boards, just butt them up together because they shrink when they dry out and if you want a little space between composite boards use a 8d or16d nail as a guide why would you want to leave anything in between the deck boards permanently. Its just more useless crap for you to spend money on...

  • What a crock of shit.. Spend that money in Beer as you are building your deck.

  • Its called use the edge of your swanson speed square to set the gaps.

  • deck spacers = another crevasse for water to sit in to rot the "sub-structure" out that much faster.

  • Ok you mental giants. Wake up! Composites EXPAND!! That is why they have a warranty tied to precise gapping. READ IT NEXT TIME. These spacers are a life saver. If you build decks charge for them. Easy money

  • @ddoy100 Yes,exactlycomposite expands with heat, that's another reason to have a gap so the deck has room to expand . These spacers will stop that. As someone else mentioned green redwood requires tight joints upon installation, dry 1/8 " and ipe 1/16 " all different . All require room to move.

  • Save your $, get a cheap calculator. Use calc adding gap to board width, multiply x 3, snap a chalk line at those intervals, and fasten boards at every 3rd interval. You'd be surprised how quickly then that you can backfill the other 1st and 2nd board using only your eye to evenly gap the two remaining per set of 3. For decks with ~ 15 or more gaps in (1"x4) it is possible to adjust the gaps so that your last board falls in place w/o needing to be ripped.

    PS- avoid Simpson wherever possible.

  • absolutely horrid!

  • wrong...... I have been building decks since 1980 right out of high school.. this is such bullshit. did you know that your qualified deck contractor will use the spacing gauge that is recommended by the specific manufacturer of the product. if you believe this I have some ocean front property in Arizona for you to buy.

  • save your money homeowners, this is a load of crap! Space your decking with a hinge, screw the board down, pull the hinge out, the screws hold the board in place, and you save your money!

  • holy crap - a 4 min video on deck spacers?!

  • You don't need deck spacers.
