Nice video! I liked the Megadeth-Arch Enemy correlation :D Though AILD's Separation does not really resemble the bass line from Hypocrisy. It's more like the 4400 theme and also RHCP's Californication.
Man... I'd make the "it's impossible to write a chord progression without accidentally plagiarizing somebody" argument but these examples DON'T EVEN SOUND THE SAME!! (except for the last one - that one did) Very poor work...
@OrielFilms I HIGHLY doubt Les Claypool thought, "yes.. with all my artistic abilities, I'm going to rip off KORN out of anyone." Experimentation is experimentation. If it sounds similar, it sounds similar. There are some artists and musicians who express similar interests and feelings, but the MAIN thing that's making it noticeable is the drummer keeping time; otherwise, you probably wouldn't be able to tell.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
1) Every chord progression in existence has been used before.
2) There are only so many possibilities.
3) The entire framework for music, and the ability itself to make music was created by God. So 100% credit goes to God anyway. I can play an E Major chord... he created E Major.
@Daracon75 1.) Every chord progression in existence has been used before? What the hell does that even mean? Do you realize how many alternative tunings, strings, chords, strumming/patterns, voicing, harmonics, musical methods and techniques (etc) there are? More than you and I could ever count, my friend. Regardless, many artists stick to the basics and with good reason: selling points (whether good or bad)
2.) The possibilities end with the artists limitations.
Well heres another one for ya to go with the Crazy Town rip-off. In 2003 UK Garage act "Jamieson" released the track "Complete," peaking at number 4 in the UK Chart. have a search for it, you'll see what i mean.
@imxlnt2 1. the voice is playing the same melodies as the guitar, don't be such a fucking jerk, asshole, according to your logic, if i play that riff in a violin and say it's mine, i wouldn't be a rip off because i wasn't using a guitar
2 has subtle changes, but you applied the same logic which still makes you an idiot
3 there IS similarity, you're just a fucktard
4 im guessing you're either being sarcastic, or you're reaaally stupid
Camp Rock - I Got To Find You steals Simple Plan - Welcome To My Life (The chorus) Jonas Brothers - Love Bug Steals Jason M something - I'm Yours Jonas Brothers - Burning Up Steals Maroon 5 - *I don't remember the name* Miley Cyrus - Rockstar Steals Scotty Doesn't Know by a band in Euro Trip
wow. what a waste of time. I stumbled upon this vid (somehow) and........I don't hear any shocking similarities AT ALL. This attempt at whatever you were trying to accomplish is an EPIC FAIL. Sorry. Have a nice day......
SCREW YOU EMO FAGGOT!!!! IF IRON MAIDEN SONGS ARE SO SIMILIAR,WHY DID PAPA ROACH RIPPED 'EM OFF!!??! And for that you said...they copied "only" 3 songs without knowing! First, you can't copy a song without knowing it (someone will sooner or later told you that you ripped it off). And if all Papa Roach songs are uniqe than all songs from Iron Maiden are more than uniqe!!!
Will everyone shut up about Papa Roach being a load of ''ripping off'' shit heads or whatever. Yeaaah they ripped off about 3 songs, probably without knowing. Atleats their songs are all unique. Every Iron Maiden song is exactly the same!
@TheGeorgeThompson when papa roach were formed iron maiden had already been together for 25 years- you can't compare them. If you want to have a clear opinion check out their whole discography. Up The Irons!
@Severtized I second that. I'm sure RHCP allowed them to sample, since it's spot on. The only thing I'm pissed off about is that the second I heard that song I thought, "there's now way THIS band came up with such talented riffs and bass lines..tossed in with horrible lyrics..it makes no sense." Luckily, my old drummer was a massive fan of the Chili Peppers and started bitching the second I mentioned it. RHCP could've turned it into a single, easily, but I like how it turned out: wonder/unique.

Most of these are obviously a huge stretch to call a rip off. One must determine a rip off from the body of the song, not just a small section. Popular music is amazingly limited in scope and substance. By design the industry wants catchy and familiar. If the audience is dumb....all the better for them. They can keep releasing the same junk over and over and the idiots will think it is new.
Most of you call a catchy "chant of the week" music. Your lack of insight creates the copy phenomenon.
that las one was a blatant copy, ever notice how the mos popular sogns are always stolen? (Viva la Vida, Revolving door, every avril livagne song, etc etc)
papa roach is bullshit. they copied maiden's riff from the middle of "genghis khan" for "last resort", and they stole lyrics for "scars" from the movie "red dragon". and i didnt even know about this other song until now
The first one was a stretch, but others are obvious rip offs / a couple of weeks ago I was hooked I kept playing the same riff and it tok me a week to realise it was Hot for teacher - just in a different key....
lol the first song was a stretch?!?! i loooove maiden, and everytime i hear this song im like why did papa roach have to kill this song by trying to so blatantly steal from it
Papa roach stole everyones sounds. That's what happens when you learn how to play guitar on your own. You tend to play the songs you hear and make your own riffs based on other the other music you've played during practice/covers.
When I was jumping ahead of the clip to see the comparison, I must have wrongly mistaken the video of Megadeth for belonging to Korn (one of their videos had a similar aesthetic).
Anyway, to add to this video, Arch Enemy's intro to Nemesis is a fast-paced version of the one to Megadeth's Liar.
Also, Arch Enemy's intro to We Will Rise is a remake of the one for Anthrax's Only.
The main riff to Trivium's Anthem (We Are The Fire) is a swipe from Dio's We Rock.
sorry but vredesbyrd sounds nothing alike the arch enemy song... if thats a rip-off, so is "amon amarth - cry of the blackbirds" too, the part after the intro sounds pretty much alike the one of vredesbyrd, but is clearly played different. these are no ripp offs.
but though a good video, the other rip-offs were quite interesting
