my fondant just doesnt want to stay together, i get small tears when i stretch and i try to be careful with it. i need advice on how thick the fondant should be when you drape it and to stretch it without tearing it, i get so frustrated with this sometimes :(
@Minyadagniriel I usually use marshmallow fondant, and the trick with that is don't let it dry! If it starts to get dry, it will tear up and get impossible to work with. When it does dry, put it in the microwave for about five seconds, and be sure to use a lot of flour sugar so it doesn't stick too bad to your fingers or the surface you're working on. Hope this helps;)
oh where can i get marshmallow fondant? O_O or do you make it yourself? microwaving doesn't harden it? i'll keep this in mind because i'll be making a cake for christmas this year and may need fondant again.
@Minyadagniriel I make it myself, there's a lot of good recipes on Google and here on YouTube;) Because it's mostly marshmallows, it only gets softer when you put it in the microwave, but be sure to put it on a plate or something before you put it into the microwave, because sometimes it gets too soft and sticks to the bottom of the microwave... Good luck with your cake:D
I was wondering, I'm going to make the same kind of hat, but instead of a st patricks hat, it's a mad hatter hat, so how do you get the bottom part of the hat, is it just fondant curled at the ends or what?
that is sooooo cool!!!!! if you'd be willing to share it with me what is your buttercream recipe please? thanks :) x

if you roll out your fondant too thin it will tear.
best way to avoid the tears and ripples is to roll the fondant out thicker.
