  • Midnight Oil cannot be classified as a one hit wonder. Other than that - awesome list.

  • Suckers break like Turbo and Ozone!

  • Why is there a part 2 and a part 3 but not part 1 for this series?

  • @dunbar9finger I seem to remember there being one (i watched all three of these a couple months ago) but it looks like it was taken down...

  • Thumbs up for Benny Mardones, Aldo Nova, After the Fire, Opus.

  • White boys rapping TECHNICALLY!! with Der Kommissar

  • @huntingtonparkway they are also technically ripping off Falco who sounds better ina language I don't understand.

  • You can pick nits about 'one hit wonder' status, but a pretty awesome mix.

  • "Into the night" is a very beautiful song.

  • Breakfast club have two great songs the other one is: "Never be the same" and I think that song is much better. watch the video.

  • Ah, The Promise!! What a great song!!

  • Good compilation. However, a lot of these were not one it wonders:

Kajagoogoo had 2 hits (Big Apple), as did Danny Wilson (Second Summer of Love). Climie Fisher had several hits, but all off the one album. Living in a box had loads of hits and their biggest (Room in your heart) is not even the one you picked to include.

  • @Boydus1 Ya more like one "shit" wonders

  • I remember when MTV just came out.

  • what a freaky decade for music

  • Are you a total retard ! . Midnight oil ( beds are burning ) had a huge amount of songs that climbed to the top of the charts int the 80's and nineties !

  • @pete246 yeah but not as catchy as beds are burning. political rock only seem to work for U2.

  • break dance gave me the shits during the 82-85 period as some artists incorporated them into non rap dance acts.Add the ridiculous fashion factor.

  • whats the song 8:53

  • @METALFREAK193 ... that song is called 'Right On Track' by The Breakfast Club . ... there ya go ;)

  • Comment removed

  • Ahhhhh the 80's, where it was sexy and in style for a guy to look gay LOL!

  • You're an idiot.. Kajagoogoo had more than one hit. Remember the movie Never Ending Story? Yes the song was Kajagoogoo and was a hit.

  • @Beefboy616 Kajagoogoo's only hit as a group was "Too Shy," which is why it's included here. "Neverending Story" was a solo hit for the group's lead singer Limahl.

  • @Lana2k6

Makes perfect sense. It isn't who made up the band, but rather how the band was billed for that particular hit. Seems easy to understand to me.

  • @Beefboy616 Wasn't it released by Limahl as a solo project?

  • Thanks for the vid it brought back many memories. To prevent others from being deied my opinion :) I agree with comments that Midnight Oil is not a 1HW as described - Wikipedia "a one-hit wonder is a person or act known mainly for only a single success. The term is most often used to describe music performers with only one hit single". Also for those who have not engaged in the political arena you really shouldnt judge him but rather challenge his intent, influence or result (if any).

  • Midnight had more than on hit.

  • Let's give credit to those bands that actually produced good rock over the years. . How about KISS? or Judas Priest? Just seen them on the EPITAPH tour. The longest and best Priest show ever.I will say Rob had more energy and stage presence in the 90's, but hell the dude is 60 and sings better then ever ! You want one hits? Search "On my own again" by Steeler or "Man in my shoes" by Stingray. Then hit 707 or Touch. This is my hobby!

  • @Vigilantevocalist

Brings up a very good point on "good band" or "best energy" or similar titles, and those are valid arguments elsewhere, but the main point here is 1 hit wonders in the U.S. during the 80's.

A good song may not be the same as a hit song and vice versa. When most people refer to hit song of the 80's they mean going to or near the top of Billboard. More based on record sales than an opinion on quality.

  • how did great music came from this to lil wayne......

  • GTR hell yea. forgot about them.

  • too shy is the best one hit wonder ever

  • This is when MTV was in it's early stages and was actually worth watching. Now....ROFL.

  • Aldo Nova had one other song that was pretty good not sure if it was a hit. Monkey On Your Back!

  • I don't think Midnight Oil was a one hit wonder, c'mon it was an excelent group!!

  • LOL, Device sounds like it should be some kind of German industrial techno revival outfit.

  • I remember those songs

  • GTR has Steve Howe and Steve Hackett in it.

  • @steveissosteve Yes what a waste!!!

  • @sann1979 ?

  • @steveissosteve i mean these two can do better than that!!

  • I love checking out compilations like this as there will always be a few songs I might've forgotten about, or have been searching for years to find because I thought maybe someone else sung them, or just flat out didn't know who did. Thx for posting.

  • The Icicle Works were brill, LOVE Kajagoogoo, GTR rocked, the Waterfront album is brill, the Climie Fisher song is cool, Rob Fisher R.I.P, Device were wicked should have been massive, Living In A Box were Fab.

  • parachute pants, drinking maddog 20/20, getting high on pot from a dug-out one hitter, chicks with big hair and tight jeans with leg warmers. AHHH the eighties... I could've died in the end ('89) and felt like I had left the best life there ever was. I was win-ning!

  • GTR was actually a great band. Remember Emerson Lake and Powell?

  • @botzhead - you mean Emerson lake and Palmer?

  • OMG...had lots of fun times back then...can I go back??

  • Rob Dyrdeck!

  • Icicle Works was a great tune, I was in Germany the first time I heard it and still I love this song!!!

  • Midnight Oil had more than one hit :) "Blue Sky Mine" "When the Generals Talk"

  • Because many of those bands/singers had just a hit on the Billboard Top 40 it doesn't mean they didn't have other hits elsewhere, especially the British ones.

  • Kajagoogo ...Too Shy Shy Hush Hush Eye To Eye...awesome number one...Summer, 1983

Interesting footnote to Benny Mardones' song "Into The Night", it's one of the few songs to hit the Top 20 twice..once in 1982, then 1989.

  • climie fisher was noo hit skinny girly little boy

  • whats the name of the song done by device?

  • @71hoovercorrea I believe it was called Living on a Heartattack

  • Loved Climie Fisher and here (UK) they weren't a one hit wonder :-)

  • After the fire did a great job with : Der kommissar. But FALCO was the one that made the song popular... THX FALCO you´re the greatest.

  • @Louisefalk78 I only like the Falco version

  • There is a reason why the 80's made the 70's look better!

  • Im pretty sure you cant say midnight oil was a one hit wonder

  • Kajagoogoo FTW

  • Anyone know a song from the 1980s that had the lyrics "foolsgold is all ive found" ??? Please help !!!!! male singer

  • ive never heard of most of this bollocks. icicle works wasnt a one hit wonder

  • @dermotoblong

Icicle Works was a one-hit wonder in the US, and as the description reads, this video covers bands that were one hit wonders in the United States. Hell in the US Icicle Works barely qualifies as one hit wonders.

  • @masanf ah in the states, yeah ok fair enough

  • @masanf the guy looked like the lead singer from Tears For Fears! LOL maybe he is that guy!

  • yep throw out midnight oil not a one hitter

  • Midnight Oil (Beds Are Burning) were never one hit wonders. They were one of Australia's biggest bands, they also had successes in the U.S.

  • Don't feel too bad for Aldo Nova. Did a lot of things with Celine Dion during her heyday - undoubtedly did well financially

  • when in rome had a great album and "heaven knows' was also a minor hit, but most trakcs were at least decent. They had record label issues, thus never really promoted right. sad, but great album nonetheless.

  • Love Changes Everything was a song written for Rod Stewart (which many thought was actually singing) but he turned it down. Not sure what he was thinking since he ended up making a bunch of crappy music in 90's.

  • actually Icicle Works had a minor, albeit very, hit with Understanding Jane, which is actually much better than Whisper to a Scream, but most people probably wanted new wave instead of rock. Listen to Understanding Jane

  • 80's the best season, the best music

  • Wow the 80's sucked ass. Lol

  • 8:17 When in Rome's ''I promise'' ..... thumbs up if you think of teather ball

  • Breakfast club's other hit was "Kiss & Tell"

  • Thanks for the videos. But where's 80s One Hit Wonders (part 1)? I can only see parts 2 and 3 in your videos.

  • YEAH, I LIKED KAJA GOO GOO, @2;39-2:40, WHOA!! I Used to think the name of that song was "Don't Turn Around" I LOVED "Beds Are Burning" YEAH Timex Social Club, When In ROMe, (I used to think the name of that song was I promise You) I LOVE this song, YEAH I remember The Breakfast Club I had that Album

  • That "when in Rome' tune is absolutely timeless

  • @traubista

"Midnight oil was not a one hit wonder" So tru! They sucked too much to have a hit in the first place!

  • Great video!

When in Rome had a second hit in clubs.

  • Aldo Nova....... oooooohhh myyyyy!!!

  • Benny Mardonas' song was actually a release in 1978 (US) I remember the song well when and where I used to listen to it. :P

  • @zicofuss44 It was re-released in 1989, updated, music-wise, and made #3 on the charts. He had no other hits...

  • Midnight Oil had heaps of hits I guess only in Australia!

  • @502belinda

    They had them here too.

  • Can you believe the group at 2:42 - After The Fire - opened for Van Halen on the '83 Diver Down Tour? Poor bastards were nearly booed off the stage when I saw em...

  • yes gay they were ...at least most of the groups were gay that made number one,but hey they could sing and do great albums, and by the way most of these groups did way more than just one song or album but may never had made it to the states i mean whats good music to them, most of there singers or groups come from different country's but they claim there as theres lol

  • man, 80s were gay as hell

  • @coturnix19

you should really listen to the MUSIC from the 80's. it was fun and creative. one hit wonders or not. the music was amazing. please dont tell me that you are a fan of the crap thats on the radio today?

  • What happened to "Part 1"?

  • I have read description and most of them are one hit wonders but music does not revolve around the US regardless of how important they think they are in the music industry

  • Midnight oil is NOT a one hit wonder.... never will be....

  • @uiteidde A few aussies gettin' their noses all out of joint, Australia is NOT the world......read the sub-heading. There is nothing to be proud about. Just to fill in the rest of the world, the bald guy singing in that clip is now a politician, who, generally speaking, has turned his back on the very issues/causes he once stood for...

  • Kajagoogoo <3

  • 80deez suX

  • VERDADERAS JOYAS:

    * ALDO NOVA

    * BENNY MARDONES

  • Comment removed

  • Theres some good songs in there!

  • Holy shit, it's like someone reached into the deepest recesses of my brain and retrieved all the 80s songs I loved but had been covered by the accumulated dust of time.....

  • @crockett007 ahaehehehehhehehehehehehshhse I'm sorry between the videos and your comment I can't stop giggling! But I know what you mean.........

  • I Promise was one of the most played and most popular New Wave songs of the 80s. I still remember the lyrics!

  • Sweet 80s classics i have all these on my ipod! ; )

  • Aldo Nova FUCKING ROCKED!! That song KICKS ASS!!

GREAT song by When in Rome as well. I'm sure it got a HUGE boost from "Napoleon Dynamite" as welland opened that song up for a whole new generation

  • OMG so with the exception of maybe 5 songs, I have just about all of these on my iPod!!! Gawd I miss the 80's!!!

  • living in a box had a least one more hit room in your heart

  • Carlton dance at 4:00 lol

  • @traubista They were in America.

  • I'd rather live in a box and live in the 80's than live in a mansion today

  • Destine for One Hit Wonder-land....The name of the band was Living in a Box, the name of the song was Living in a Box and the name of the album was Living in a Box

  • wow only about half of these where anything approaching a hit in australia, about three or four I never even heard of

  • 62 people were born in this century

  • really bowring to much commercial ...

  • really bowring to commercial .....

  • Rumors and Right On Track were good ones.

  • Mullets, Spandex, and tight pants for everyone!

  • At 1:21 Aldo Nova, as a kid this song would have me imagine what a big city was like before I ever saw one. When I purchased my first car guess where I drove to, although I was grounded for getting home really late it was worth every minute.

  • 15.When In Rome - The Promise

16.Breakfast Club - Right on Track

    17.Living in a Box - Living in a Box

  • 1.Icicle Works - Whisper to a Scream 2.Benny Mardones - Into the Night 3.Aldo Nova - Fantasy 4.Kajagoogoo - Too Shy 5.Ollie and Jerry - There's No Stopping us 6.After the Fire - Der Kommissar 7.GTR- When the Heart Rules the Mind 8.Danny Wilson- Mary's Prayer 9.Midnight Oil - Beds are Burning 10.Waterfront - Cry 11.Opus - Live is Life 12.Time Social Club - Rumors 13.Climie Fisher- Love Changes Everything 14.Device - Hanging on a Heart Attack
  • i would still rather listen to this any day, then what they are playing on the radio today!

  • Mary's Prayer is a beautiful song.

  • David Bowie did admit to having homosexual encounters some with other artist.

  • @bunny50000 the 80s were filled with abunch of metrosexual men who appear gay and act gay but were not hell even david bowie did the metro crap

  • Is it just me or is REM a wannabe Midnight Oil

  • The 80's really had an ambient gay thing didn't they? I mean, I don't think that's what the people in these bands were going for... but it's kinda there anyway.

  • @Bunny50000 Completely agree...ambience, haircut, gesture...with a step back (20 years after), the 80's were a particular musical platform...this style was surely affected by everyday life...funny how music evolution is.

  • nice compolation mate....I remeber alot of these songs..jeez oh but they bring back some memories!!! thanks.

  • Although it was low on the charts, Aldo Nova had a second minor hit with "Monkey on Your Back," off his second album.

  • Opus should have been a no-hit wonder, "Rumors" was a GREAT song, When In Rome got a second life from Napoleon Dynamite....rightfully so, a good song.

  • I love how he starts plucking at his guitar before you hear any guitar start playing. Durrrrrr

  • How many ppl didn't realize that "When In Rome" song is a 1-hitter as you thought it was Howard Jones?!

Great picks, still love that Benny Mardones <3

  • I was a Chinese boy growing up in Singapore back in the 80s. I was really into music from the West, especially the UK. I still remember all the bands in this video except for GTR. Never heard of them or any of their music. Some of the bands featured may be one hit wonders in the US but back in the UK, they're actually quite successful.

  • i don't think i ever heard of the first two!

  • What's kinda sad... is I like some of these songs.... still.

  • @davandk Why is that sad??? I still love them all.

  • @davandk lol so? if its what you like, its what you like, i still like some of these songs and im 16 XD

  • aldo isn't a 1 hit wonder either lol can you say research

  • @crashx30 It took me 2 seconds to research and confirm that Aldo Nova had only one top 40 hit. Definitely a one hit wonder. I was way into music in the 80s and only remember that one song. Unless you are from their home country, Canada, you would only know them for Fantasy.

  • @VHagar5150 a "hit" in the UK is classed as Top 75 in the charts.

  • you guys remember break dancing?

  • 80s One Shit Wonders

  • I guess it's better to have one hit than no hits?

  • Who the fuck was Opus?

  • How are these hits

  • ....doesn't the term "one-hit wonder" mean the song had to be a hit? Some of these songs suck...I don't care where you're from.

  • I love 80's

  • all the songs after 3;40 maybe 4 of them were hits in us...midnight oil, when in rome, breakfast club and timex social club!! the restmight have been top 100 but certainly not top 40!!!!

  • ok these are one hit wonders in the US midnight oil only had one hit hear so stop complaining and der komishnar was orginally made by falco by a remake was done in english by atf so stop complaining

  • Can anyone tell me the duo's name: the singer played the synthsizer, and the second was a mime shaved head, chains. partial lyrics: "Don't give up...:, I think.

  • wow..I almost like all the one hits..my fav are after the fire and into the night, and and midnight oil and genius of love..what?? no Billy ocean or The Outfield? More Breakfast club!!...thx..lol

  • @8robmart8 "no Billy ocean or The Outfield? " Billy Ocean had a string of hits in the 70's and 80's. Check him on Wikipedia.

  • midnight oil were absolutely not ,one hit wonders. kajagoogoo, with a name like that didnt even deserve a hit. and the people talking about what constitutes a hit. are playing semantics, talking like lawyers. everyone knows what a one hit wonder is.

  • Midnight Oil were NOT one hit wonders!!!

  • 5:50 Opus' 'Live is Life' is truely a 1hit wonder, also here in Europe^^

    1:40 Kajagoogoo Soo gay!! XD

  • The guy in the first segment has a strange, almost creepy similarity both in likeness and style as Billy Joe Armstrong...

  • Breakfast Club's 'Right On Track' - Why did I always used to think the person singing it African American? Ha ha ha...

  • 6:22 The coolest bunch in town LOL!!!

  • @xXKayn3Xx i will prove you wrong: Motley Crue Guns N' Roses Run DMC Michael Jackson U2 Ozzy Osbourne Iron Maiden Def Leppard Poison Tom Petty John Melencamp Whitesnake Tears for Fears Talking Heads Bon Jovi should i continue?
  • @xXKayn3Xx , you deserve thumbs down, the terrible times are the times nowadays.

  • "after the fire" is a copy of falcos "Der Kommissar".... no wonder they were a "one hit wonder"...

  • @fjmi I won a contest in 1998 on "Big in Germany", a program that was broadcast worldwide on Deutsche Welle TV. Ingo, the host wanted to know who came out with Der Kommissar first. Of course I chose Falco. I won a Big in Germany T-shirt that was too small but I also won the X-files cologne. What a trip!

  • @fjmi Correction they used the music to Der Komissar and the Words 'alles klar Herr Kommissar' the rest of the lyrics are in english and do not directly correspond to Falco's Version

  • @fjmi ATF were a three hit wonder in the UK: "One Rule For You" (no, 40) -

"Laser Love (no. 62) and "Der Kommissar" (no. 47) and they are STILL performing and are still VERY good!

  • @fjmi after the fire was falco

  • Falco's version of Der Kommisar is a billion times better. Also, midnight oil wasn't a one hit wonder imo.

  • @sleaze12 they were in the USA...i know they're super popular in Australia, but here the only hit was "Beds are Burning"

  • @imaRobot1688 - Maybe it should be titled "US One hit wonders from the 80's"

  • And you need to fix this video. "Der Kommisar" whether it is in english or in german (the original version) is by Falco, not by After the Fire.

  • Most of these so called one hit wonders list are subject to the author's locations. Those of us that lived in media areas like Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, San Diego know way more hits by all these so called On Hit Wonders. Alternative radio stations like KROQ and 91X didn't freely contribute their request lists and song rankings to the national buildboard rankings. Only trendy radio stations like KIIS FM did and they were usually 6 months behind the times on new alternative songs.

  • @mondraake32 i think you're completely right...

to be considered a hit the song has to be in the top 40 for at least 3 weeks (according to billboard who do these sort of things), which excludes a lot of songs.

  • @Annie1962 the are 1-Hit WOnders in AMERICA - not AUSTRALIA.

  • Is no one reading the video description box??? It clearly states this is "A collection of video snipits of singers and bands from the 80s that only had one major hit in the United States (they might have been more popular in Europe, Australia, etc..)" unquote people!

  • @cherri1berry

lol, I know, right? Some of these people have a serious lack of attention
